Amazing little Mexican restaurant in Uptown Chicago. We arrived at lunchtime and being greeted and seated immediately.Waiter explained the food on the menu, especially because I void everything spicy, and he suggested the green sauce on the Chicken Enchiladas, and it was delicious and not spicy. So thank you!Margarita was very good! Although, I could have many more, I only had one! My daughter's choice of food was also delicious. Service was excellent! Very friendly and attentive staff. It was a Saturday and we could have had brunch but we were very happy with our individual choices. Next time we'll try something different and make sure we will be back for brunch. The place is very tiny but very comfortable, cozy.

Amazing brunch! I stumbled upon this restaurant quite by accident. The food is fresh and flavorful, and the servings are huge. The bloody Maria was good. I'm glad I got to check this place out. I'd recommend it even if you're not into Mexican cuisine.

Went a couple months ago and had a great time - the restaurant is adorable and the service was great. The food deserves the hype - I had the speciality fish, which was served atop veggies and steamed in a banana (?) leaf. Unique items on the menu, and would love to try more of it.

Loved the creamy refried black beans, and the chips and guac was also fresh in flavor. The grasshoppers here are pretty spicy, but I really liked the crunch. Additionally, the queso panel frito had perfect crispy edges yet tons of melty gooey cheese, very delicious. For the mains, we had the corn truffle quesadillas and was well received by the table. I personally had the stewed rabbit which I would describe as a gamey version of chicken in flavor. The green beans and salad were both great pairings to the rabbit, and everything was very good and I would come back.

We've been going to Kie-Gol-Lanee since the week they opened about 8 years ago. From the beginning, we knew it was something special and wavered between wanting to tell everyone about it and keeping it secret as long as possible. The secret is definitely out now.I have never had anything that was not completely amazing here. And I've had a lot of stuff.Every single time, we're sure to order the ceviche tostadas. Even when they were take-out only in 2020, we'd regularly go pick up little buckets of their ceviche. None better anywhere. The chuletas de puerco is also a favorite. It's a hefty pork chop stuffed with Oaxacan cheese and chorizo. Yes. Pork stuffed with more pork. It's big enough to share or take home half for an insane lunch the next day.All the tlayudas are delicious. I recommend the cecina for a particularly Oaxacan flavor profile. Know that the cracker-like corn tortilla is a unique texture. It will not be like tortillas you get at most Mexican restaurants.Quail: rich and tender. Sopa del mar: Utterly decadent. This place knows everything worth knowing about seafood. Garnacha: Full of flavor and satisfying. Tamales: Oh my God! So good!Lovely servers, every single time.If you've only been here for brunch, you really need to get there for dinner to see it shine. It's a good idea to go relatively early for dinner. You'll want to take your time with all this amazing food, and this place gets busy. I'm so happy for their success and just about as happy for my dinner options.

Oaxaca is a place most Americans cannot find on a map, which is unfortunate. This Southeastern state on the way to Chiapas is a rich landscape known for textiles and other arts. The cuisine is not as well known.Kie-Gol Lanee brings the culinary code to Chicago. A small storefront restaurant off the Vietnamese Argyle Street this gem is warm and inviting. While it is small it is nicely appointed with art and low level lighting. The staff is friendly and attentive. We started with chips and a bean salsa and then ordered the Queso Panela Frito which was tasty. The Sopa de Elote was a wonderful cream soup with peppers and cilantro. Then we ordered the Chuletas de Puerco which was delicious. The flan was excellent and Tarantino cooler was a nice contrast. This cost about $73 before tip.Overall an excellent experience. Give this restaurant a try. It will not disappoint.

Kie-Gol-Lanee is a small cozy restaurant in uptown Chicago. Offering authentic oaxacan Mexican food. This is a great local that offers a truly unique dining experience that you won't find at a lot of places. The food is really traditional and packs a lot of flavor. We got the birria tacos with the cod in a plantain leaf, pumpkin seed sauce, zucchini, tomato, cilantro, served with rice. Both of these dishes were incredibly delicious and offered something that I have never truly tried before. The rice was incredibly delicious and some of the best I have ever had. This was a truly unique spot with a great dining experience, food, and service.

We love this place. Came to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Started with margaritas. Not super sweet but generous portion size they serve chips and black refried beans. The beans were unbelievable so I bought an order to bring home. Had the guacamole which was really fresh and yummy. We had the stuffed pork chops, steamed red snapper and I had the Cecina tlayudas A traditional Oaxacan dish. This was fabulous. A crisp tortilla with chewy cheese and tomato slices red onions slices of avocado and strips of grilled beef. Amazing! The pork chop was tender moist and juicy. The tres leches was the best I've ever had. This is my new favorite Mexican restaurant

The staff were super friendly and nice here. It's my new favorite Mexican restaurant. I admit I'm not the most adventurous when it comes to ordering food but I'm definitely going to try their entire menu. All the food was prepared well and tasted so good! Pan de Elote is like eggs benedict but with mole, corn bread, spinach, and meat. The French toast was so fluffy and delicious. The orange juice was perfect and naturally sweet. The enfrijoladas were crunchy and the rice was nicely seasoned. Chill restaurant with lots of great food.

This is a spot I'd been meaning to check out for years and I finally went. It's a great hustling bustling kinda place, great energy. I was surprised to learn the dining room extends back further than meets the eye to a separate dining room up a half flight of stairs, which is where we sat. I think we would've been better off up front.I arrived a little while ahead of my friend, and I'm not sure if the server was taking time to wait for my friend to arrive, or if somehow no one told the server I'd been seated, but we waited a very long time for anyone to approach the table. And it took us flagging someone down to take our drink orders to do it. After that it was a very long time before we saw another server, and no one came to our table until my friend got up to grab a pitcher of water from a nearby station after our water glasses had been empty for a very long time. Service improved after that, but overall was a bit checked out. It looked like a busy night, so I'm willing to make a concession for that, but to be perfectly honest at no point throughout the meal was I sure who my server was supposed to be.Luckily the food made up for it, or else this would've been a 3 star review. We got a ton of food, starting with the huitlacoche quesadilla. I'd never tried huitlacoche before, People call it the truffle of corn, and I wouldn't say it had a truffle flavor, but it had a really interesting texture that I thought went great with the beautiful blue corn tortilla. The chips and guacamole were also excellent. I had the enchiladas de pollo and my friend got the lamb barbacoa. Both were excellent, but I would probably get something else next time. The menus is vast with many unique offerings and I would love to explore it more.
