I got takeout from Kau Kau bbq on a Tuesday night on a friends recommendation. The restaurant was mostly empty upon walking in, which made me doubt the restaurant a bit, but thankfully, I didn't let that deter me from trying the bbq here. The staff spoke mainly Chinese, which may pose an issue for non-chinese speakers seeking to order here. I ended up ordering the crispy pork, grilled pork, and crispy duck. Unfortunately, they didn't have any carbs to pair with the meat (rice, etc). The crispy pork was super fatty and tasty, and the pork was bursting with flavor. I was a bit disappointed by the duck he duck, however, as while skin was crispy, it was lacking a bit in flavor.Overall, Kau Kau offers some solid Chinese bbq at an affordable price, as long as the language barrier doesn't deter you from coming here. I would probably come back here again!

I've come here several times to get a version of their lunch special. For just $11, you get hot tea, fried rice, Chinese BBQ pork, and another choice of an entree. Last time I got the shrimp. You get a decent portion of food, in addition to a bowl of soup. This is some amazing value for lunch. Not many places I can get a robust lunch for under $20. The fried rice is very flavorful! The shrimp was wonderfully breaded and fried to perfection. But the greatest item in this meal is the BBQ pork. Such delicious flavor!

3.5 rounded to 4Came for the lunch special which I think is a great deal and composition of different dishes. The hot and sour soup they give at first was kind of bland and the fried rice was tasty but quite standard. The bbq pork is amazing and I would come back for more. It's the right amount of sweetness and cooked so be so tender. The roasted duck was a huge letdown though. I got really boney pieces that were hard to separate the meat from and the greasy parts were extremely greasy and almost bitter. Service is standard and the restaurant has a homey feel which wasn't too busy for seating options during a weekday lunch. The front is busier for takeouts though

I have been going here for years and the last couple of times the food has been bad. The shrimp in the rice smell spoiled, I don't know if they keep changing cooks but it's not what it used to be. I will stick with tai tung!!

Pretty solid spot for some classic American Chinese food. We didn't try any of their actual barbecue, but the stir fried dishes were pretty good (7/10).

Great value, but don't dine in. As a tourist, I'm always on the lookout for those hidden spots that locals swear by. And that's how I found myself at Kau Kau.Let's dive right into the overall experience, shall we? Kau Kau is a cozy little joint with an interior that's a tad musky and oily. It's definitely not the kind of place you'd want to linger for a sit down meal, so I'd recommend going for takeout. Trust me, your nose will thank you later. However, don't let that deter you because it's all about the food here. I swung by on a lazy Monday afternoon, and the place wasn't too crowded, so it was definitely an express experience.Alright, let's get to the juicy part--the food! First up, the ribs. Oh boy, these bad boys were a finger-licking delight. They were smoky, tender, and oh-so-flavorful. I could practically hear the crunch as I sank my teeth into the succulent meat. The bone to meat ratio is a bit on the high side though. The char siu pork was another winner. It had that perfect balance of sweet and savory, and each bite was like a party in my mouth. The portion sizes were fairly generous, and the value for money was definitely on point. Now, I do have a small bone to pick--pun intended--with Kau Kau. They charge extra for sauce and rice, which I found a tad bit disappointing. I mean, come on, shouldn't that be included in the price? Also, I would have loved if they offered smaller portions of rice. The picture they have on their menu is like a rice mountain, and I'm more of a rice molehill kind of person. To sum it all up, Kau Kau is the place to go if you're on the hunt for some seriously tasty eats. The musky ambiance may not be everyone's cup of tea, but hey, the food is the star of the show here. Fast service, delectable ribs, and char siu pork that will leave you craving for more. So, why wait? Head on over to Kau Kau and let your taste buds do the happy dance! Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

This is my family's spot for BBQ Pork and it never disappoints. I discovered their lunch special which comes with soup, fried rice, BBQ Pork, another side (I got duck), and veggies all under $15. Everything tasted super delicious and was happy to try multiple items for a reasonable price.

Found this place after going to HK Bbq Master in Canada. It was so good for such a good price! It comes with egg drop soup, fried rice, and two kinds of meat. The two ladies working there were so nice and attentive. The takeout line was surprisingly long at 3pm on a Sunday but service was quick while dining in!I'm not from Seattle, but I will definitely come back when visiting!!
