Kathryn's Soul

I can't really comment on ambiance because it's at French Market but it's def my favorite place to eat at when I go. Everything is made to order so there's def a wait but it's so worth it. I've had their loaded baked potato with shrimp, shrimp alfredo, cabbage with bacon, candied yams, and banana pudding. It's so satisfying and comforting to eat every time. I'm honestly craving them right now as I write this review.

I was in Chicago for a conference and wanted to eat somewhere Black-owned before I left. Yelp had Kathryn's Soul as nearby and rated well so I gave it a try. I ordered a peach cobbler, a cornbread and a shrimp and chicken alfredo. I ordered it through the website for delivery so I'm not sure what delivery service it was but I'm sure it was a third party like Door Dash. I only received the shrimp and chicken alfredo. I don't know if the peach cobbler and cornbread never made it into the bag or if my door dasher stole my food but I was really looking forward to that peach cobbler. Anyway lol the shrimp and chicken alfredo was fire. The sauce was flavorful and the seasoned well. Although I think I would order the shrimp alfredo next time. The portion size was hefty. If I had a microwave in the hotel room, I would have had lunch and dinner. I would definitely return next time I'm in Chicago.

Kathryn herself reached out to me. She apologized profusely for my last (horrible) experience. (As I said, this food experience was SO unlike hers.)Unfortunately, Kathryn was not there for a bit and had someone else "minding the shop." I get it, and let's hope this person is no longer left in charge. I will be ordered again, at some point. I do think Kathryn is a sincere person. I appreciated her owning what happened and explaining it. I WILL be back to order and try this again. I cannot imagine my favorite meatloaf has gone awry!

Was in immediate West Loop and on the hunt for something good to eat. Kathryn's Soul in the French Market was nearby, so that was my landing spot.Stuffed salmon that had spinach and an alfredo sauce. Delicious. Had sides of broccoli and sweet corn. If broccoli had been seasoned for me as a child the way it was seasoned at Kathryn's, I would have gladly eaten it in my youth. The sweet corn reminded me if canned corn. Not bad, but you can tell texture from corn off the cob. I also had shrimp scampi that had a fair share of plump shrimp in it. I crumbled my honey cornbread in the remaining scampi sauce.Seating in the French Market is at a premium. Be aware of that in case finding a table to sit seems taxing. The price point may be more than most might expect at a food court. Nevertheless, the food was worth it.

We are from out of town. The Uber dropped us off on the wrong street, but you can find this restaurant in the food court of the train station. Everything was sooooo good, and the owner is so nice! I had the shrimp and grits; the hubby had the meatloaf and garlic potatoes. There was enough for lunch and dinner. I wish that we lived closer; I would definitely return.

Located in the French Market / train station, a little off the beaten path. Good spot when you need a break from the tourist crowd. My server was very friendly. I ordered the shrimp and grits and it was very flavorful as well as cheesy. Although I'm not a fan of instant grits, I'm assuming, the dish was delicious. The portion size was very good and filling.

I paid almost $14 for chicken alfredo. The person behind the counter took some chicken out of a bag and put it in the microwave and preceded to cut it up with bare hands (yes TOUCHING my chicken, and NO she did NOT wash her hands directly before - in hind site, I should have cancelled my order right then). It didn't really matter in the end, the chicken was shoe leather that I couldn't even chew. I spit out the first and only piece I tried. The Noodles and sauce tasted the same as some things I have bought frozen at Jewel.I asked for a cup of water. They forgot it. When I went back, they said rather rudely - well it's coming from the tap.

Customer service wasn't bad but wasn't friendly either. I am from Texas and was in town visiting for my birthday weekend. Looked this place up on Yelp and decided to try it. I had the mixed chicken and shrimp alfredo. I decided to go with the jerk chicken. Chicken seemed a bit dry but the rest of my food was juicy and taste good. They serve good portions. I couldn't even finish my food. This is located in the French Market and seating wasn't bad for me at the time I went (Monday at 1ish).

food was VERY bland mac had no cheese and was dry! i would not recommend them to no one!

My job had our food catered from Kathryn's and all I can say is that it was the best turkey I've ever had. I don't even eat turkey and it was so juicy and full of soul flavor. The mashed potatoes and mac and cheese tasted like Big Mamma's food. You must try them as their food is simply delicious!
