I can't believe I've come to this place so often and still have yet to rave about how much I love their ramen. There are usually no lines since the restaurant is in a little corner in a plaza on Convoy. The server who usually seats and takes our order is very welcoming, and the inside is small - kind of what you would find in a ramen shop in Japan. I love this place because it is inexpensive compared to other ramen shops, food is good, and I don't have to wait an hour to eat. You may see other reviews mentioning other ramen places, but I think it's fair to judge this place based on its own, especially considering how each ramen shop specializes in different types of ramen. Just my two cents, here's what I usually order: Karami signature ramen: I think its a chicken-based bone broth with a layer of chili oil on top, which adds a much needed spiciness to the broth. It comes with corn, half an ajitama, two thin slices of chashu pork, some marinated bamboo, and pickled red ginger (something that so many ramen places don't include). I love it. My partner and I get a serving of extra noodles and split it, and our total still comes out to less than $20 a bowl. The soup is so flavorful and so salty, just the way I like it in ramen. My favorite part of the dish are the marinated bamboo. It has a sweetness to it that goes well with the saltiness and slight spiciness of the ramen. The noodles are neither thin nor thick, but are cooked well enough to where there is a chew. Karaage chicken: I always get a side of fried chicken with my ramen because I feel like its such a classic dining experience, plus its a great way to gauge how they make their chicken. Karami lightly fries theirs. The batter is not too thick on the chicken, still leaving the inside juicy and moist, although I felt like the chicken during my recent trip was a bit dry. It was still crispy and delicious. It comes with a bed of sliced cabbage and spicy mayo, a perfect complement to their chicken. Overall, Karami is great place to grab a bite of ramen. It's not busy, open relatively late, and offers quick service with many options. It's a great place if you want to support local businesses.

Listen, all you wannabe Bon Appetit f*^k knuckles, if you don't like that they use chicken broth, then read The damn menu at the entrance. And stop comparing to others. This place is quaint, quick, and food that tastes good. And the water tastes good (yes, that sh*t is important).Ask for garlic. Trust me. The signature ramen slaps.Stop being all artsy, just say if you would come back or not. I would definitely come back

I had a lot of high hopes for this place I really did but I really did not like how close the bathroom was to our table. We were seated right next to it and I immediately smelt the funky smell when I sat down. When I actually went into the bathroom I noticed the door had a lot of gaps. I understand that space is limited but the least they could do is build the door that fully covers any gaps so any smells wouldn't seep into the restaurant. Honestly if I were to come again I would ask for a table the farthest away from it. It was really hard to enjoy my meal knowing there were people going in and out of it and everytime the door opened I would get a whiff of the inside. I was pretty disappointed and because of this I have to knock away 1 star. The food itself was not terrible but also not too memorable. I have worked in a ramen shop in convoy years ago and know that most of these restaurants get their ingredients from pretty much the same suppliers. Almost all restaurants use the same noodles, etc. The only thing I would say is unique about this place is the fact that they use chicken broth as the base not pork. So if you have any diet restrictions to eating pork this will perfect as long as you ask for no chasu toppings. To me it didn't really taste like chicken so they do a good job in that sense. It also didn't feel as heavy as a typical tonkotsu (pork) broth which was nice.Unfortunately, it hasn't made my list of favorite ramen shops but I wouldn't mind going back if a friend or so invites me. Also the price is pretty high so if I want to pay almost $20 for a bowl of ramen I rather go somewhere else.

We have been on a tour of ramen places in San Diego. We had heard good things about Karami Ramen, but we just did not enjoy the food. Food:Karami Signature ($16.50): First off, none of the ramen have a pork base, only chicken broth base. There is a spicy section so our expectation for the Karami Signature was that it would not be spicy. Incorrect conclusion. The soup was drenched in a spicy oil (look at how red the broth is in my picture!) that kept burning the back of my throat and triggering cough. We admit to not being very tolerant of spice, so many of you may enjoy the heat of the broth. But we couldn't even finish drinking ours. Eggs were perfectly softboiled but super salty, so I couldn't even enjoy that. Also compared to many other places on my ramen tour, the dish was a bit small for the price. Chicken Karaage (+$8.80 to make it a combo): Very crunchy batter. But otherwise not particularly remarkable. There was free dried garlic as garnish, which was nice. I love garlic. Ambiance: Cute eatery, although it smelled like cleaning solution (we arrived at opening). Service was quick and attentive. Parking: Free lot parking

The place was quaint and luckily at the time we went there was a table big enough to fit our group of 10. The decor in the restaurant was pretty interesting as it made you feel as if you were on the sidewalk in front of a ramen shop enjoying a nice hot bowl. The staff was very attentive and their menu wasn't overly complicated. I'd definitely recommend this place again as the broth if the ramen was super flavorful.

Food is so good and service is very quick. The venue is small but ample seating; people are in and out. Their habanero ramen is fantastic - the broth is a chicken base and has very deep flavors without being too heavy. Noodles are fresh. Highly recommend and will come back again.

Pretty good ramen, but the competition for ramen is crazy in san diego. Try menya, ramen nagi.

Service is absolutely quicker than most Ramen places. And the servers are nice. Ambiance- feels like you are in Japan. Small restaurant with few tables and chairs. In needs a renovation. It smells old and looks old. Food- we've had the best Ramen in San Diego and it's always been the best and no one can beat it. " Menya Ultra" I ordered Kuro truffle ramen- the truffle powder is so powerful that I was not able to enjoy my ramen. Perhaps if the truffle is less then maybe it has potential. Egg is not as gooey as I am hoping it would be beside that it's only half. This ramen is a solid 2 out of 5. Karami ramen- this is what my husband picked. And I have to say this is much tolerable and it's spicy. The broth is way better. With all kinds of extra toppings in it. I gave this ramen a 3 out of 5. Chicken Karage- this is the only one I enjoyed, great flavor and tasted really good.FYI: Only 1 restroom with weird lock. They should put a cabinet to store all kinds of stuff because it looks messy.

Went to Karami today. Staff and service was awesome. Super kind people working. Got the Aka Oni. I like my food spicy and just wish this was spicier. Overall flavor and texture of the soup was gentle, subtle, creamy, and delicious. Noodles had a good bite to it. I added butter and garlic for some extra deliciousness. Second time there and would go back again.
