Lovely park not too far from the city. We have kayaked here in the summer and hiked a lot here in the spring and fall. The trails are well marked, and if you use the AllTrails app, you can discover other trails. There are port a potty's and bathrooms, picnic tables and a marina. Many people were fishing there. There are also tennis courts and a playground. This time of year there is a great view of the lake from the trails since there aren't any leaves out yet.

Great lake, and had a great time! We had some fun 4 wheel driving to get to the scout area. It was a busy area with three picnic tables and we got one. The area was clean with no trash around, which was surprising since there was not a trash can next to where we were.

This is a great lake and park that's approximately 30 minutes of highway away from downtown KC. I discovered this through a series of trail runs years back.First of all, it's a pretty sizable park and lake -- not near as big as Smithville Lake up north, nor Clinton Lake in Lawrence, but good sized nevertheless. The trail system was massive and one time we did it, it was pretty swampy from a humid summer of storms. You gotta love that midwestern earthy, summery smell though. Reminded me of summer camp or days spend at the Lake of the Ozarks as a kid. From the looks of it you can fish here for bass, walleye, catfish and crappie, and you can have boats on the water as well. Might be a good place during all this social distancing that's sure to drag into the summer; tons to do and tons to explore.

After a long day of driving, I'd noted this place within 3 - 4 miles of our hotel. From the map-app, it appeared to have walking trails around the lake. I suggested an after-dinner excursion to my family and they agreed. It was slightly harder to locate than I'd thought. Coming via Leavenworth Road, you turn off another side road onto what appears to be a completely residential street. After a while, I thought it was going to dead-end at some random house. Eventually, though, it punched through to the loop-road around the lake. We drove clockwise around the lake, past multiple small parking areas. We were not able to spot a walking trail, though. We noted multiple people walking along the shoulder of the road, and eventually concluded that the road served as the walking trail...We eventually stopped near a boat ramp / playground / marina and took a short walk. Others complained of how buggy it was, so we retreated to the car and continued our circumnavigation of the lake.It appeared to be a popular place, mostly with what appeared to be locals. There was plenty of fishing, some boating from a large marina with multiple docks, and some picnic-ing. If you can score a parking spot adjacent to some area you are interested in, this looked like a nice place to spend an hour or so (or a weekend afternoon). There is a large dam at one end of it, which had the largest concentration of visitors. My only disappointment was the lack of a real trail around it (that stayed off the road).

It looks like there is a lot to do here for fishing and such. I come here for trail running when Shawnee Mission Park closes its trails due to wet conditions. You can easily get 10 miles on the trails here. They are technical and very hilly. If it had rained you will be getting muddy so bring an extra pair of shoes for the ride home. The only real down fall is that the trails are not clearly marked. if you come here solo there is a good chance you will get lost your first few times. bring your phone/ gps in case that happens.

I love this place, historic, beautiful water views, a lot of quiet time. Lowkey, just a refreshing place to be. There's a little kids park off to the left when you get the first main part of the park. Plenty of shelters, off dog leash, THE SPILLWAY (my fav, you get to hearing the roaring of the water as it falls into a never ending pit) but hiking, trails, - it has it all, at least for me. I recommend a little drive thru, it's about 15-20 min drive around. Enjoy.

Peaceful, beautiful, and relaxing. This park is loads of fun and there is so much to explore. We stumbled across this park because we had an hour to kill so we looked on yelp and it all worked out. The weather was perfect and our dogs enjoyed it as much as our kids did. Look forward to returning

Without a doubt a diamond in the rough... except there really isn't too much rough :-). Love the area around the park; but once inside... OML, this place is beyond beautiful. Great trails for walking, cycling and running. Much visit and when you do, do yourself a favor and put away your electronics for a while and enjoy the natural beauty.

This place is stunningly beautiful - that is why we rented out the James P Davis hall for my sons wedding back in February-- We had no problems when booking and giving them the money-- We did have problems all summer, we left messages to ask questions and no one called us back, until October 3rd, the wedding date was set for October 29th. We received a call that they had double booked and we were the 2nd ones to book so we were out of luck. They threatened my friend who had booked the hall, as a present to my son. We had to scramble in the fall to find someplace else - with our budget done months ago. You would think someone would be checking the books all the time, not just when they turn the calendar over to a new month, this added so much stress to our lives, also, they went with a friends old tobacco barn which meant port-a-potties and nothing but dirt for a floor, my sister has ALS and is wheelchair bound and needs assistance for everything, she had to decline going because of this. I was really disappointed, someone should be on the ball with their rentals, invitations go out months before a wedding, we had to get a hold of everyone and let them know the new location, add electricity, heat and everything else.

Jerks that work for the lake wait at the board amp to see if you have a Wyandotte Lake Permit. Could have told us prior to backing Down the boat ramp but they wanted out money. I told the wyandotte ranger he was an asshole. He wrote me a ticket. I paid it and will never go back.
