This is a solid course choice in the area. Reasonable greens fees, great customer service, and good pace of play. Our group of eight tees off at 2:10pm and we stayed on pace all day. The lady in the snack bar treated us like her children.... basically made us custom sandwiches to order. Pro shop staff friendly and efficient! Course took some hard rain the night before and although we were cart path only, the course was easily playable. Challenging layout and course conditions were 8.5/10. Greens rolled excellent!

This course was a lot of fun!! But I think the best thing about it and why it is 5star in my book was the pace of play!!! We finished 18 holes in 3.5 hrs and never waited to hit after the 1st tee box. Tee box's by the way are some of the best in the area!! All 18 boxes were in great shape. This is a hilly course with some tight fairways and plenty of sand, water, and trees. With good course management several birdies if not eagles are available for the taking. The only knock I have with the course is not even their fault. The greens are laden with hickey marks from people not repairing their divots. This is a personal pet peeve of mine... Anyway, even with that the greens rolled very consistent and true each green seemed to have the same speed which was nice. Well worth the drive and price our group will be back again!!

The course is not well maintained. A lot of brown spots and the clubhouse staff are not friendly. Unless you are very close to the course I would recommend it.

Played this course for a tournament after several hours of torrential downpours. The course, except for a few areas was in amazing shape. The track is hilly and demanding, not overly long, but very picturesque for a city course. Great elevation change, lots of fun, several water holes, all build a unique golf course. The layout is similar to some of the courses you might play in the ozark hills.I was the only one in our group of four that had played the course, each remarked that they would really enjoy playing it again. It's worth the trip to play a course that doesn't have a house in sight.

Love trying new courses. Beautiful course, a bit challenging at times. Greens and faireways were in great shape when we played.

Fun little course to play and in great shape. This course is pretty short, so quite a few tee shots with 3 wood all the way up to a 6 iron. With that being said, the layout does make you have to still shape some shots to play a solid round. Plenty of elevation changes and some of the greens can be tricky to navigate with a couple of tiers. The only 2 things I did not like is the course distances are not marked well at all. With only a 150 barber pole in the fairway, it caused me to guess on distance too many times. Nothing on the paths and rarely dobyou find a distance on a sprinkler head. The other was knowing the position of the flags on the green. There were many holes where you just could not tell if the flag was in the front, middle or back. Will most definitely be back- fun layout, great condition and a nice little gem tucked away in Independence.

Winterstone is one of the nicest public golf courses in the KC area. I've played here several times and the course has always been in fantastic shape. It's challenging yet fun, and for novice golfers like me, it's nice that it's not the type of course where you'll lose a ton of balls. The people here are friendly and the atmosphere unpretentious. The only two downsides to me are the price and the lack of a nice clubhouse. Because it's so expensive I typically only play here when I find a steal on Golfnow.com.

HORRIBLE PACE OF PLAY!!! Below is an email I sent three different times since Saturday and I have not recieved an response:Second time in a row that I've been to WS and had a horrible experience. Slow play and no one doing anything about it. Both times I made several calls to the pro shop for help and nothing was done! I understand that playing on a weekend afternoon it's going to be a bit slower. But waiting on each tee box for over 5 minutes or more is ridicules! The first time the pace of play was bad, yesterday was just ludicrous! Yesterday on #4 there were 4 groups , one on the green, one for some reason waiting 250 or more out two groups on the tee box. Not to mention the group on #3 green. Horrible pace of play! Someone came out, drove by, said nothing. I called again later on #6 because there was a hole open between between a couple of groups ahead of us, this time, no one came out! Front nine was done in over 2:45 minutes. Pretty sad! Something else I noticed was your person in charge at the 1st tee. When my son and I were checking in we noticed a two some going off the 1st tee and two other gentleman waiting behind them. Why were those four put together? Would that not help the pace of play? We finally asked if we could join up with the two waiting and your employee said sure go ahead and ask. Then there was the two some behind us. Really don't feel this guy did a really good job. Also, he never mentions pace of play and how important it is to keep up with the group in front of you. I would imagine you had a bunch of frustrated golfers out there yesterday afternoon!By the way, I love the course when the pace of play is normal! Stephen Sampsell

The 18 is really two nines that could not be more different. The first 7-8 holes are like playing Hillcrest through a forrest. Up and down, tight narrow fairway bordered by dense woods. Almost claustrophobic. I was wondering what all the good reviews were about. Then comes number 9 along the lake back to the clubhouse and wow, the back nine is fabulous. Rolling hills instead of cliffs, open vistas as far as you can see, beautiful risk/reward 4's and 5's, a really fine course. Also a very nice restaurant with big windows overlooking #18 and the practice range. If they could take a giant chain saw to the front nine this would be right up there with Ironhorse and the other best public courses.
