I can't imagine that it took me a while to try this hidden gem near Waldo area. This place is so creative with the Thai menu from south and north of Thailand and it changes every few weeks.Everything we ordered and got was excellent and delicious. The staff and service is best. Everything and everyone was great.Make sure you check with the server about some dishes because most of the stuff you see there is pretty new and it's sometime hard to understand how it's gonna turn out. I strongly recommend you all to go try this place. They have a beautiful ambience and a lot of seating inside and outside as well. This is one of the best times for you to go enjoy my evening meal before it gets dark. There's plenty of parking in the back of the restaurant as well. If you don't find something on the street go check it out.

I had high expectations since the chef was a James Beard semi finalist! I had just come off a week long trip in northern Thailand though, so I was definitely comparing the food to what I had in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai.I forget the exact names of what we got, but one was a pork belly stir fried noodle off the small plates menu, whereas the beef pumpkin curry and rice was off the main menu. Both were pretty good but wished the curry was a bit stronger - felt subtle but maybe because I thought the curry would be similar to khao soi. Meat was tender. Noodles were not too salty and had a great balance of salty, sweet, spicy, and tart.Service was a bit slow but it was a Saturday around 2pm.

Everything was flavorful but way overpriced. After hearing so much buzz about Waldo Thai, I was excited to finally give it a try. Unfortunately, while the flavors were promising, the overall experience left much to be desired--mainly due to the small portions and steep prices. The Brisket Pumpkin Curry ($27) had the most delicious sauce I've ever tasted--rich, aromatic, and perfectly spiced. But that was just it... sauce. I expected a bowl of curry with tender beef, but instead, I got a few scoops of curry "sauce" on the side with overcooked, dry "lean" beef. For $27, this felt like a rip-off.The Pad Thai Boran ($20) was another letdown. It was surprisingly bland and oddly brown in color, lacking the tamarind tang and umami depth you'd expect from an authentic Pad Thai.Lastly, the Tiger Cry Beef was served well-done, despite the website showing a juicy, medium-rare cut. It was flavorful but didn't live up to the visual promise.I will say, the service was top-notch, and the pumpkin "sauce" was memorable. However, the overpriced dishes and inconsistent execution left me disappointed. 2 stars for the bold flavors and excellent service, but I won't be rushing back anytime soon.

TL:DR: Not bad but not what it used to be pre-James Beard. Worth visiting if you're a local but not if you're only in town for a few days. A year ago, I would've told you Waldo Thai was undisputably my favorite restaurant in KC. I loved that the dishes were perfectly crispy, spicy, crunchy, and savory, and the menu unapologetically set itself apart from the Thai American dishes that are classics in the States but absent from menus in Thailand. Sadly, the dishes at Waldo haven't been what they used to be. I kept hoping each visit was just a fluke, but consistently the noodles lack smokiness, the curry is too salty, and the menu now has a section for the standard fare you can find at any Thai restaurant. There are still great things happening at Waldo Thai, and I'd recommend checking it out if you're a local. Their cocktails are still phenomenal, their seafood curries are delicious, and their fried chicken wings are some of my best in the city. I'm holding out hope that Waldo will go back to its old self, but in the meantime, if you're only in town for a few days, I'd say there's better meals to be had elsewhere in KC.

The restaurant is bigger than it looks. They get quite busy and their food is delicious. Only disappointed they didn't have the ginger garlic crabs because they were out of season. Server was welcoming and helpful with all our menu questions and accommodations.

I had only eaten here at the Current stadium so it was fun to come in to the actual restaurant. I started with the Classy Gal cocktail which is a gin martini and it was very good. Also did a bottle of soju for the table - always a must. As an appetizer we did the gui chai and it was interesting; not my cup of tea. I did the Gaeng Hung Lei for my entree and it was excellent.

Solid place for Thai food. Honestly no complaints - the food was great, well made, and well seasoned; the service was prompt and attentive, even though it was busy, and the interior seating was adequate despite being busy. There's a separate area that you could sit at as well. I think my party of 4 waited about 10 minutes before a table was ready on a weekday dinner time. Pictures tell more than words could when describing food, so here's some of the different dishes we got. We had 4 totally different dishes, and each one tasted just as good as the others.

Waldo Thai recently introduced their new concept of small plates menu which i was so excited to try. They will be offering these small plates with the menu changing Bi-Weekly to give you a variety of options that are more affordable. You can still order off their regular menu as well. Everything was so delicious and I highly recommend them the small plates are great to try a variety of items. Don't forget they also have happy hour specials dailyI LOVED the pineapple chicken.Service was great, ambiance on point, food is fantastic

I Love that online reservations are available! We have been in the mood for Thai food the last week and decided to try this location out. Sooo glad we did! We had a difficult time trying to figure out the menu as it was using original Thai names for food and we are absolute novices. Our server was very helpful and patient. We ordered the chicken in lettuce wraps and dumplings for our appetizers and really loved both!I ordered the flank steak with egg noodles and it was incredibly flavorful with a little kick of spice, but not overwhelming. My husband ordered the seafood with rice (shrimp scallops calamari) and really enjoyed it. Can't wait to go back!

I'm not sure what has happened since since the last time I dined, but it was such a poor experience that I felt like I needed to update my review.Portion sizes are small for the price. I got the yum jin gai. At 17$ for what I got, I expected a much larger portion than a small bowl of soup and about 7oz rice. The soup was probably around a cup and a half. It was fine, but it didn't taste like curry, it tasted like a chicken soup. It wasn't very flavorful, and there is no way this could have filled me up.Service was a disaster. We got service from 4 different people, none of which knew if we had gotten a drink, if we needed our checks, if we got our checks back.A friend ordered the drunken noodles at $23 and it was LAUGHABLE how small that portion was, it was literally half the size of a typical portion that you'd see at any other Thai restaurant, and double the price.I will not be back here again, are you kidding me?!
