I needed to grab a bottle of good wine in a pinch, and accidentally left it late in the weekend to do so. With a Sporting KC game to catch and most stores closing early because it's Sunday, I needed to find one on my way to the game.Enter Village West Discount Liquors. And, unfortunately, convenience on my route to the game is where the "pros" to this review end.I walked in and right past two employees who asked nary a word as to how they could help me find what I sought, much less even greeted me with a one word salutation. No worries; I was on a mission. I knew exactly what I was looking for....unfortunately, I knew the name and variety of the wine I was looking for, but not the country of origin. Why does that matter? Because the wine section of the store is organized by country of origin. Hello Google...After the aforementioned search giant solved that mystery, I moved toward the Argentinian section of the wines....where I spent the next 45 minutes. Or, so it seemed. I'm sure it was 41 or 42 less than that, really, but part of the reason it felt like forever was due to feeling like a poindexter, being watched by a couple OTHER store employees who were moving around within 10 feet of me as I slowly perused the Argentinian aisle back and forth a couple dozen times, looking for my dang grape juice. In case you're not keeping score, that's FOUR employees who have not offered any assistance or acknowledged my existence in their establishment as yet.At this point on any other occasion, I bug out. I didn't find what I came for and no one has offered to assist in finding said juice, why stay?Well, unfortunately, due to my time crunch, I HAD to get something. So I picked a winner and headed to the checkout. The female working the counter looked like she wanted to kill me for making her engage. Although perturbed at my experience thus far, I still defaulted to my general personable self and asked, "How's it goin'?" "...eerrggghhh...iss goin'," was the huffed response, barely audible. After barking my total at me, grabbing my card from my hand like taking candy from a baby, and slamming my wine in the obligatory brown bag (I seriously don't know how she didn't break the bottle), I turned and walked swiftly out, and did my best to contain my relief as I exited the store. If you're looking for a more friendly beverage store with which to do business, feel free to hit me up and I'll offer a little advice!

Seriously, if you're looking for a good liquor store, look elsewhere. My family has done business here multiple times due to conveniency of how close this liquor store is. Each time we have failed to be impressed with customer service. But our last visit that had us speaking to the owner, made us confirm our thoughts about this place. My family purchased a bottle of alcohol and quickly realized we had grabbed the wrong bottle. We checked the bag soon after returning home and after asking the cashier for a receipt, it seems that we had failed to receive one. A quick call was made back to the shop to explain our situation and that we would be back tomorrow to return it. No problem over the phone, and the assistant manager said he would return the bottle no problem. But when we came back the next day it was like we were asking to steal from the store. The owner told us he could not honor what the assistant manager had said, and basically told us that we were lying. Long story short... after bringing in an online CREDIT CARD statement, he finally gave it to letting us exchange the bottle. If you're seeing the other reviews and wondering can an owner really be that bad, YES he can. Save yourself a headache before you drink and avoid this place completely.

I thought it was a great place, my first time there was a few days ago. This stupid girl talking about "no bathroom" well it's written on the door.....goto a gas station, geez.....stop crying about it.And other people talking about the prices. I didn't see anything outrageously priced and i work in a liquor. Actually their prices were better on alot of things compared to where im at. $109 for Crown XR, that's a steal, $144 at my place. I think the beer prices were the same as everywhere else. They had a good selection. I even bought a 6pk of Presidente...i haven't seen that anywhere but Miami so i was happy to get it. I've been to every liquor store around here that i can think of and i will definitely stop back by next time I'm at The Legends or NFM. Disregard the "haters" i know what I'm talking about.

I like this liquor store. They have a decent selection of wine. Some nice expensive bottles, but reasonably priced bottles too. Wonderful craft beer selection as well. Most of their craft beers are available by the single bottle too. Humidor is attached so easy to grab that while you're there. Come here for our "essentials"

Bad customer service. Bate and switch. Purchased 4 bottles of different bourbons for almost $200. Noticed one rung up for $10 more then price stated on shelf where there was 4 other bottles of the same thing. Manager refused to honor price and said it was human error and I could return it if I wanted. I guess they would rather piss off a customer then return $10 for their own mistake.

I guess part of the issue- not being used to Kansas rules. Bought the alcohol. Then had to go to a different register on the outer part of the store to buy club soda. Asked where the Bloody Mary mix was- and was told we would have to go back to the liquor part of the store. No thank you. Would have considered it, but no restroom. We're we're paying customers. Found this liquor store as it was close to the hotel we were staying at. So we thought we'd get booze before heading to the hotel.Almost became an ugly situation as there was no bathroom and no other store in the same parking area to use a bathroom. Prices were standard. Decent selection. They did have some of the frozen drink pouches already frozen- thought that was nice. But if you come here- find a bathroom first and buy your mixers elsewhere- not convenient!!

This place is absolutely robbery and should be ashamed of themselves! They are taking advantage of people who are looking for allocated bourbon bottle and charging literally 1-2 thousand times MSRP a bottle that is 49.99 is 850, a bottle that is 199 is 5K, and so on. Look at the picture if you think I'm making this up. They are just waiting to prey on some poor soul who sees a bottle gets excited and they get taken to the bank. FOR WHAT REASON!?!?

I have been going to Village West Discount Liqour for at least 6 years. Last night three girls/women(black) stole jugs of alcohol while I was in the store. Today I stopped by the Liqour store and asked if I could go to the back to grab a small bottle of wine. The older Lady told me that I had to leave my bag/purse at the front in order to grab it. First off, I am not a theft nor will I be treated like one. If you're going to make people leave their things at the front then you might as well just say no purses/ bags allowed then because clearly the three individuals stole large jugs of alcohol from the front and walked smooth out the door! I am a black women who is highly offended by the treatment I received today and I will never step foot in your establishment again!

A good selection of just about anything you'd want to get. A have a few specialty beers that I enjoy and they always have them in stock. Good wine selection too. I go here for the selection, not for the service. Some workers are great, some aren't. That actually suits me well as I don't go shopping to socialize. They are helpful whenever I had a question, but usually I know what I want when I walk in and am just doing some additional browsing so after asking if they can help me once and I decline they give me my space. Maybe some see that as a negative. Not so much for me :p
