Delicious Food, Attentive Service, easiest to arrive using Public Transit! This gorgeous new restaurant is in a new apartment building on the corner of Troost and Armor. I was lucky to find parking across the street, but if you are taking the bus, it's super convenient. It was a quiet weeknight dinner, the menu is diverse with several vegan options with Southern staples as well. My friend and I shared everything and we're very happy. The shrimp and grits were spectacular, with flavorful braised greens, bacon, and shrimp. The fillet Oscar was decadent. Carrot cake is large enough for 4 people and the bread Pudding is delicious.

Unfortunately, I wanted to love this place but it was a fail. FUEL creme brûlée French toast with two strawberries & handful of blueberries. My complaint that the bread was too thin for creme brûlée effect. So it was just hard thin bread. ATMOSPHERE beautiful large modern space. SERVICE below average. I arrived at host desk. Man asks for my name and then walks off. With me being disabled, I couldn't walk fast behind him, but then another guy comes up and asked for my name then takes me to my table. We had a challenging time trying to figure out what to eat with tasty options. My cousin, had to decide between four items while I only had to choose between two. We asked the waiter for recommendations and he said it's everything is delicious. We ordered the food and it surprisingly came out quickly. But then we noticed we had no napkins or silverware. We tried to get our wait staff attention while he was at the table next to us. He said he was busy taking orders and will be right with us. The table next to us noticed that we did not have the necessary dining items and mentioned it. The waiter seemed annoyed and got us fork and knife each. As he scurried back to the other table, we also asked for napkins. Waiter repeated he'll help us after taking the other table's order. The guy at other table kindly said he could wait until we get necessary items. Meh. Enter at your own risk.

I was recently introduced to Urban Cafe' and the review was impressive. I knew I needed to make my way there sooner than later. Upon my arrival I was smitten by the upscale appearance of the restaurant. It looked quite nice from the outside and as I stepped in I loved its decor. One could tell that the designer has an eye for uniqueness and style. Everything fit like a well put together puzzle. Parking was a bit challenging at first as it sits on the corner of a very busy area and the parking lot which is quite small was full. As I backed up to park on the street a spot opened up directly in front of the restaurant (Thank YOU, LORD!).I was warmly greeted by the host and as I made my way to the area with my party, I caught the eye of one of the chefs and he greeted me with a welcoming smile. Alrighty then, he had me at hello! The private room was also beautifully decorated and quaint and expressed just the right intimacy for a wonderful brunch. I was there for a small birthday celebration and the staff treated us like royalty. They even stored the birthday cake in their refrigerator while we dined and celebrated (how's that for hospitality and hometown flair)?! Our server was professional, knowledgeable of the menu, accommodating and offered suggestions. The food as well as the ambiance was on point! The menu had quite a variety of dishes and many were out of the box including sticky duck wings, oxtail bahn mi, brown butter pancakes, lox, seafood benedict, crab omelette etc. The shrimp and grits were also phenomenal with THE best collards ever...In other words, seasoned to perfection and oh so succulent! The ground beef for the burgers was second to none. The real deal and not some imitation or filler beef. It was wonderful to immediately taste the difference and the portion sizes were more than enough. Sweethearts, if you're in the mood for a unique dining experience with a delightful meal and good service Urban Cafe' is your spot. Deliciousness awaits!

* CELIAC / GLUTEN FREE REVIEWlots of great-sounding options for non-celiacs, but definitely a smaller selection for GF. I got the urban bowl, it was just okay - but I did not get sick! I was hoping for a little richer flavor than what I got, but it wasn't bad by any means. The restaurant itself has a very cool vibe and the staff were super kind, just wasn't in love with what I got.

My wife and I came in here on a Friday at 6:30. We had reservations, but didn't really need them, as the restaurant wasn't very busy yet. More people started coming in after we had ordered, but it would have been easy to have secured a table just walking in. The bar is very nice with one TV and the ambience of the place is upscale. We were promptly greeted by our server who took our drink orders. I got a Blackberry Bramble with bourbon. I really liked it. It had just the right amount of sweetness that perfectly combined with the bourbon to make a good sipping cocktail. We ended up ordering the Farmer's Veg (vegetarian) for an appetizer. I assume the vegetable in this dish is seasonal, but I'm unsure. It ended up being roasted cauliflower with labneh and it was good. For my entree, I chose the Kung Pao Cauliflower (vegan). It's served with kale salad, spicy Thai chili and cashews. It was delicious and it had a good kick to it. My wife got the salmon with sides of green beans and macaroni and cheese. The sides were also good and she enjoyed her salmon. We didn't anticipate the size of the Mac and cheese, and we ended up taking the leftovers with us.For dessert, we had ordered the bread pudding but our sever accidentally put in for the blondie. We went ahead and just went with it and it was good. Other than working out some minor kinks like the incorrect dessert order and our plates being taken (and then replaced before we used them), this place is fantastic! I'll definitely come back to dine here again and it is a great spot for date night or a special occasion. They have an extensive drink menu, so I may just come here for a cocktail sometime as well.

First time is always good when you meet the owners and they completely engaged AND the food is firrahh!!Drank: Plantation punchEntree: Shrimp n gritsLoved! Loved both! The drink was plenty tasty with rum, pineapple and spicy mango The shrimp n grits tasted just like the presentation.. the sauce was so well seasoned not too salty that the simply grilled shrimp balanced with the grits, cheese, bacon and collard green sampling atop was DELICIOUS!!!Glad I finally made it through since their different locations on Troost. 34th St seems like a fitting spot! I'm going back to try more of their menu!! R&J CULINARY GROUP ( Ron & Chef Justin) & partner Tia got a solid concept.. strong since 2016!

I've eaten here twice in the last month. The creme brulee French toast and brown butter pancakes are my favorites ( carbs be damned when I eat here ). The bacon and eggs are cooked to perfection. The sticky duck wings have a great sweet and savory teriyaki taste. I just wish they came in a spicy variation. The food presentation is nothing short of exquisite. Service has been great both time's I've been here. The ambience is colorful, chic, eye catching. They celebrate local artists by having their art on display. A culinary gem in the heart of KC. Can't wait to go again!

Amazing establishment! Burger is phenomenal and so is the ambiance. Service is a little slower but can be expected from a smaller establishment. If you're a cocktail lover try the Pomegranate cocktail, definitely a people pleaser.

We visited this lovely restaurant as a party of 3 on a Saturday evening, and it was all around great experience. Inviting ambience, well maintained, it had a relaxed yet lively atmosphere. We each ordered different dish and the flavors were spot on, it was beautiful presented. The highlight of the night was when the chef stopped by our table to check on us and see if we needed anything. It's always a nice touch when chefs take the time to interact with guests.
