This is Kansas City's best kept secret! For $10 you can see a high quality show. There is a small concessions stand that you can buy typical concessions. Highly recommend buying the popcorn bucket for $5, as all refills are $1 forevermore. It's fun to see everyone bring their vintage buckets. If you want to sit closer to the show you need to bring a shorter chair or blanket. Otherwise the standard bucket chairs are on the hill (still great views). You can BYO snacks and drinks. Gates open 1 hour before curtain and there is usually a pre show from a local dance troop or something of the like. Thursday nights are discounted if you buy from the box office. Parking is plentiful and free. Always a good time and many shows to choose from throughout the summer. I try not to miss a single one!!

My wife and I got invited to watch the production of The School of Rock because a mutual friend was in the play. I had heard a bit of talk about a Theatre in the Park, but I thought it was only on the Missouri side...Boy was I mistaken. Right here in Shawnee, KS. Such a great venue! There was lots of parking, even though we got there early, and this venue is huge and very nice. Everything was kept up and looks new. The production was excellent and we lucked out with the weather. The pricing was great, but you just gotta know some things first, and Ill half-a$$ list them here:1. be sure to bring a blanket/and I recommend a cheap tarp.2. you can bring food/drinks just no glass.3. there are seats that you can rent, or purchase your own LOW lawn chairs...If you use a regular size chair you will need to move to the back.4. bring bug spray/suntan lotion

Theater in the park is the most fun you can have going to theater in the summer in Kansas City. We went and saw the School of Rock in excellent musical adaptation of the film. If you haven't been, you bring your own chairs and blanket instead of on the lawn in front of a beautiful stage in the middle of the park. It's delightful on a cool Kansas City summer evening with the breeze and by the end of the show the stars come out. Everyone in the play did an excellent job. The popcorn from the concessions stand is amazing . When you buy the bucket, you then can get as many refills as want for 1$! I think my kids ate 10 buckets. We had a great time and enjoyed throwing a football and playing games during intermission.
