Tamale Kitchen is not just a great idea, they serve a great product. This entrepreneurial effort is ran out of the kitchen of the closed school on the campus of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church @ 10th and Bennington in the Northeast. A small group of Hispanic parishioners came together and with some professional guidance started making and marketing 4 kinds of tamales: chicken, pork, vegetarian and sweet.Orders can be phoned in or via the internet. Pick-up or delivery options are available. We ordered pork and sweet for our Christmas eve dinner and picked them up 2 days in advance. At $2 a piece they are priced appropriately and were a hit with all 4 of us that ate them. It was great to not only enjoy a great dinner but but even better to know that we were supporting individuals that were creating a labor of love and keeping traditions alive while bringing in money to an impoverished area of our great city.

I was introduced to the Tamale Kitchen a few years back while attending the Dia De Los Muertos festival at the Nelson. While we enjoyed our tamale and sides, I read about the Tamale Kitchen and I was smitten-with the grass-roots truly keeping it local group of gals who pored their efforts into the task of tamale making-truly a labor of love and tradition. Which none of this would matter if the tamales weren't great-but they are, the balance of masa to fillings as well as the perfect degree of spice. Support local and let these ladies continue tradition-and do the work for you !

Tamales were very dry. They also lacked much flavor. I added some salsa to second batch I heated. It helped a bit. But still a disappointment.

I worked with Becky as I planned my great-aunt's 99th birthday celebration. She was quick to respond to my inquiries. She arrived on time to set up for our planned lunch buffet. Everyone at the party loved the food.
