I was introduced to SconeLady's Coffee Shop on a recent Caffeine Crawl. With infrequent visits to Lawrence and the shop being in a secluded strip mall on the less interesting west side of LFK, I probably never would have ventured in if not for the Caffeine Crawl. The space gives a bit of a rural and rustic vibe, with the large sleek industrial roaster in the center of the seating area. We were treated to a start to finish roasting demonstration and samples of the dark and light roast drip coffees, along with tasty biscotti. I brought some scones home for a treat for my wife - she loved them.Anytime in the future that I find myself in west Lawrence, I would stop in to further support and expand my limited experience from the first visit.

If you are looking for smooth and strong coffee try what I got (vanilla syrup, concentrated cold press espresso with coffee ice, and oat milk)! The owner was super sweet! Such a cool place! They even sell other local products too!

Apparently, Yelpers just don't frequent this place. I think that's a mistake. One I've made for a long time. I'll admit, my bias against this destination is based largely on the awful name which conjures up your corny 60-something auntie with a blue gingham apron futzing around the kitchen when you were 11. Not exactly the espresso joint with wireless most of us are looking for and heavily influenced by marketing--ie., the semi-awful name and sign out front. Maybe I didn't remember the interior correctly from my last visit... uh, probably five years ago, but I didn't recall it this pleasant. True espresso shop vibe at the counter, all the proper requisite beverages plus the foo-foo flavored options containing things Dairy Queen might be serving. Those options which some customers demand. Good selection of scones. They appear to be the ones The Merc serve and if so, they're terrific. Maybe that's their hook. Guessing they're made here.Good, make that great, selection of magazines, reliable free wireless and a combination of tables and comfortable couches for hanging out, working, loafing. Funky painted ceiling tiles that give the strip mall environment (where it's located) a bit of respite from poor industrial design. But its unmistakably your typical urban strip joint in case you're wondering. My latte was on the lighter side of things. Their roast which is apparently in-house is really mild if my taste buds are reporting correctly. Could have used a bit more edge but the heat was appropriate and poured well. Porcelain cups for in-house, thank you.The current line of 6-8 at front counter contains not a single college age student yet the university is but a half mile away and student apartments within a stone's throw. Makes me think they'd increase their traffic 50% by rebranding themselves, but that's just the business owner in me. Maybe this is the crowd they want.I dropped by here just for a change of venue from my normal coffee haunts. From now on if they continue this level of service and vibe it'll join my list of favorite coffee joints in town.

No scones?! No baked goods menu?! Coffee was not that great, and staff wasn't that exciting.

Cool atmosphere great for studying or meeting with a friend. Would have been 5 stars if the lady in the back wouldn't have taken 5 minutes to notice I was there and then greeted me with no smile or any enthusiasm.

This is a hidden gem with great coffee! The women that made my coffee seemed shy but was super sweet. I got the Henrys hazelnut latte, an iced vanilla latte and a espresso brownie! In the iced latte she used coffee ice cubes which I thought was such a great touch! The walls are decorated with cool paintings from a local artist.Quiet place but I highly recommend!

I asked if they had WiFi and the person at the counter said yes. I had work to get done, so I ordered a cappuccino and scone and took a seat. What they didn't tell me is that they purposely disconnected all outlets so we can't use our computers. I had to get a to go cup and leave and go pay another cafe for coffee. They said they had problems with people not buying anything and sitting. Why punish paying customers? I'll never be back.Edit: the owner actually cursed at another customers review, called someone a horrible person and dismissed accusations of racism about his employees. This place should definitely be avoided! Very unprofessional.

The tea was fine, but none of their outlets worked. I checked. I tried every outlet in that place. None of them worked. And then one of the barista's friends walked in Ave was using the most collar language while visiting with her. He was talking super loudly to the point that it was so unpleasant that everyone inside the lobby left. Edit: I originally gave it two stars but the owner commented back and informed me they didn't have free electricity for the public and if I wanted a quiet, pleasant place to get work done I could go to the local library. Not sure what they think most people go to a coffee shop for, but here's hoping they go out of business for bad customer service and refusing to offer what the vast majority of coffee shop patrons look for. I'd also like to reiterate that the vibe in the lobby was so unpleasant that EVERYONE in the lobby packed up and left. I'm not just some picky jerk Tony to ruin someone's reputation. Go anywhere else but here.

One of the employees was very confrontational and made racist remarks towards another customer while he was minding his own business and doing his work. This went on for probably 20 minutes and my friend and I were so uncomfortable we had to leave. Coffee was okay, but it's a little pricey compared to other places
