The Salty Iguana

Everything here was so good! Clean, comfortable, excellent. We started out with a fishbowl margarita, followed by white cheese dip and guacamole. All were delicious. For our meals, we had the "Iggy Pot" (so good) and cream cheese burrito. Our server Ryleigh was simply awesome. So attentive, informed about the restaurant and menu, and just a cool gal. Her supporting staff was also so friendly and helpful. The Independence community should cherish great restaurants like these and the people that work there.

BEST refried beans I've ever enjoyed at a Mexican restaurant. EVER! MUCH APPRECIATED ¡The spinach pepper jack flauta was muy bien! ¡The chicken enchilada was magnífico! The tostado was generously loaded with seasoned beef, perfectly shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes and some fresh and crunchy scallions. They did NOT skimp on the sour cream. The Server "Sassy Princess" (Kristin??) PROMPTLY greeted us. She was peppy and FRIENDLY! It appears she enjoys her work!She took our drink orders and we enjoyed a perfectly poured Modelo draft with a good diced slice of fresh lime. ‍ Mighty tasty!We were served home made tortilla chips and fresh salsa. The restaurant is on the dark side, but the decor and murals are great. The music was eclectic. When we arrived, it was mariachi then switched over to 80's rock. Not too loud and we enjoyed all we heard. Nice menu and good daily specials. - check them out!

We came here to celebrate my MIL, BIL & my birthday. I had the Tinga Chicken Taco & unfortunately it was the saltiest meal I've ever had. I couldn't not, for the life of me, try & finish the 2nd taco. I do have Edema. If there's too much consumption of salt, my hands and feet do tend to swell. With necessary/decent moderations, swelling won't happen. In this instance, I was extremely uncomfortable but tried to keep it together for my family. To also note, I did not have anything throughout the day that contained salt, until dinner @ Salty Iguana. However, the dessert was great. No doubt about that. Our server was attentive, given how busy she was.

The food was an epic fail. The chips and salsa was the only thing good that I had. The refried beans were good. The rice was extremely overcooked. No way a cook should have served that without embarrassment. Ordered tostadas and never had a plate come out where the shells were already soft as if you steamed the beans and rice on the shells. Some in our group had the quesadillas and they looked good and those that had them said they tasted great. So there is your safe to order. As for rice it is premade so the entire restaurant is being served mush. I can't get over that. Our servers were fast, friendly and courteous. Checked back with us frequently. Some of the best waitressing I've seen. Lots of tables and space for big crowds.Unfortunately I won't be returning but as I always say ... this is my opinion and you have to give places a try for yourself. Hope your rice is better than mine. Could have taken pics as I usually do, but when I seen what was being served, some things are better left alone.

Had a fantastic dinner tonight at Salty Iguana. Before we get to the food, let's talk about the decor - every wall is covered from top to bottom in paintings of iguanas with a nod to all things KC. I don't even have the words to do it justice!As far as the food, it came out hot and fast! Great service! Gotta love the blue corn tortillas - really adds a visual aspect to the tacos! The P.V.B. earned high praise from my husband, who swears it is one of the best burritos ever!Definitely a preferred spot to get some great Tex-Mex.

This is one of those places that's a true staple but never got around to writing a review. Been coming here for so long I can't even count the years. This location and the one off Mission in Kansas. Great food, reliable service, friendly and fun. Friends of ours meet for drinks and tacos on Friday nights and so we drive all the way from Platte Woods area ( 28 miles) to join them. They think we come to see them but it's probably a little more for the blue chicken tacos! So damn good. Margaritas are very good as well. Lots of TVs and several in the nice big bar area to watch games and such. The waitress we had today has served us before and she's really an amazing server. Very dedicated and makes our infrequent visits so welcoming. She reminded us that it's a locally owned restaurant chain for Kansas City. She mentioned how in 2020 during Covid everyone was worried about it closing for good. She made sure people didn't forget about it so she drove up to cut the grass around the parameter just to make sure that the place still looked good. My voice of people saying there is bad service just isn't so. The people who work here, help seat you and cook the food are truly dedicated. Always delicious and worth the visit. Oh and their salsa is chunky goodness I love it. A bit off the beaten path now days but making the turn in is recommended.

We were seated in a dark area with a LARGE/LOUD party nearby. We waited for our server....after 13m we began looking around for who was to assist us. No water. No chips/salsa. No greeting. No acknowledgment. The large parties server had been at their table a couple of times in this timeline. Still nothing. We eventually decided to leave since it seemed no one wanted to take our order. We asked the host that seated us if they let someone know we were seated and awaiting service, he replied he had but did/said nothing to accommodate our needs before walking out the door. Some places, you just have to take the hint! Got it!!
