Some things you never outgrow, and for me, toys stores are one of them. While it's not me begging for everything I see, I know my 10 month old had a great time looking at (and tasting?) everything until we found her a new toy at The Learning Tree. I'll call out the elephant in the room and say that sometimes, yes, unfortunately for nice small businesses like these, it's easiest to order something off of Amazon and have it arrive on your doorsteps. However, there's a lot of value in supporting these local shops to offset that. For starters, they're very friendly here and help you out whenever you need anything. Secondly, you can make sure your little ones will like their toys before you pull the trigger. All those combine to also support a cool local toy store that adds to a sense of community. We found some great things for our little ones, and a few things I found to be too pricey for what they were. I think it's a nice little toy store in a family-oriented neighborhood and one we'll keep in our back pocket for gifts for sure.

They have a huge selection of toys, games, books, and other learning tools for children! Some of the prices are quite high for what it is. The staff was not super friendly, and had quite the attitude with me. I will say the variety and assortment of items is impressive!

What I liked best about the Learning Tree was that each toy had an appropriate age sticker and what it developed with the kid. Y'know, a rattler is more than a rattler invigorating the sound and action senses. Interesting. What I liked least about the Learning Tree was how dopey the toys were and the b.s. that goes into convincing parents these toys are going to create geniuses. I mean, I don't have any evidence they don't make kids smarter, but a kid is going to learn whether they have expensive toys or not. Also, the sales staff virtually ignored me the whole time I was there, not even greeting me as I made eye contact. Are kids learning how to be rude? It was a packed store, nicely laid out in easy sections (infants, toddlers, books, etc). The kids who were there seemed to be enjoying themselves, making a mess out of the displays. Ahh, kids...

This is a Prairie Village gem and what a toy store should be. The store is clean and organized and packed with innovative and old school selections. The staff is usually very helpful and will gift wrap anything in their signature paper for free. I have shopped here over the last 10 years for special gifts and last minute gifts for birthday parties. I don't often shop for my own children here because I've usually planned ahead and unfortunately Amazon beats them on price by a significant enough percentage that it's not worth it to me even though I love to shop local. They offer a great story time and summer workshops for kids in their basement as well.

The Learning Tree is like the toy stores I remember as a child. Instead of endless, soulless aisles of mass produced toys, this store is welcoming with plush toys, dolls, books and activities sitting upon the displays as if inviting young children to pick them up to play. And that is just what happens! My four year old twins love to stop by for a visit (even though they seldom get to take anything home for themselves); they are enchanted just to walk through the special child-size entrance door (adjacent to the full-size door) that allows them to enter the store through a little playhouse-like structure. What a wonderful way to see in which toys your child has interest by watching her play with new favorites she spots around the store and delights in touching! I love shopping at a friendly local store where the staff is courteous and kind. I cannot recommend this toy store more highly for people shopping for children's toys in Kansas City.

The Learning Tree staff are very knowledgeable and will help you if you come in and say, "I need a present for a __-year-old ____." They carry tons of the awesome Playmobil sets (I want them ALL), plus kits for writing and illustrating (and having printed!) your own book, making your own Klimt or Van Gogh-esque art piece; stilts, pogo balls and sticks, Rodees, Calico Critters, science kits of various kinds, books, dolls and doll stuff, puppets, building sets, Schleich figurines, Razor scooters, you name it! Lots of stimulating, creative/active gear. They will beautifully wrap your gifts for you and they have a "Treewards" card so you can earn credits with purchases over time. I can't decide why I am not giving it 5 stars. I think because it doesn't have a very warm, homey feel and it's pretty expensive. But they are great at what they do.

Thank you for the great suggestions for books for me as the mystery reader at Prairie Elementary! As soon as I walked in with my Learning Tree bag, they were SO excited :) and they LOVED "If Dinosaurs Had Hair" and "The Museum of Lost Teeth", especially since everyone loves dinosaurs and several of them were wiggling loose teeth! The Learning Tree is ALWAYS my go-to!Thanks for above and beyond service! I love the Tree!
