Currently this is the home to KC Improv, but has also hosted other events including concerts, plays and private parties. The room is small and cozy in the, "I built a theater in my basement" kind of way... the seats have obviously been a bit broken in and brought in from other places and there is a make shift bar set up on a side wall for your libation needs, but it's almost endearing how simply the room is laid out. The emphasis is squarely on the performance on not on the floor plan. And since the room isn't the biggest, if you know you want to see a performance that might be busy you might want to arrive early. It fills up quick.

Always a great place to bring friends, whenever I have out of town visitors I have to bring them to a show. The staff are all friendly or at least funny, the drinks are cold and there's not a bad seat since it's an intimate venue. And if you are in need of a little pick me up there is a coffee house literally upstairs. If you need a bite to eat there's a burger spot attached as well. I could go every weekend!

I've seen improv in Chicago, NYC, and LA. These folks are some of the best I've seen, ever. Enjoy this hidden gem while you can.

I've been improvising since about 2007, when I started taking classes at The Second City Los Angeles, and I wasn't sure what to expect from the KC improv community. My first week here I went to a drop in class and honestly, I am impressed. Kick has some really quality classes and long form shows. I am currently enrolled in the level four class and have really enjoyed the ability to stretch my improv muscles and play. The players are smart and funny, the instructors have a multitude of specialties, and the shows are very good quality. I particularly enjoy the third Saturday of the month with the Underground Throw down, Dog and Friend Dog, and Keith plus one. Also, they have drop in classes every Saturday afternoon so you can non-commitally dip your toe in the metaphoric improv pool.

Walking down the stairs from the coffee shop above into the small pit below where a small but cozy theater resides was kind of fun!! What a way to utilize a small space! The sound was actually better than I expected and had no trouble hearing the comedian speaking in the front (I was seated about halfway back)Drinks were a lil' expensive, $5 a pop, so I enjoyed a typically priced latte from the coffee shop above! Would definitely love to see some more acts here!

I went to see a jazz group here that I have seen before other places so I was able to make a comparison of the sound in this theater. Overall the sound for bands just needs to step it up. The cover charge was 10 bucks and this was not a good enough venue to charge 10 bucks for a show. Let me keep my 10 dollars and spend it at your bar so I taste beer in my mouth instead of remorse and anxiety of if I wasted my month or not. The floor in front of the stage has a few round table and mismatched chars spread around, suitable to prop your drink and fit a few friends around. The 'theater' seating is set really weird. The seats are almost lower than the table section ahead and the seats don't raise few much as the rows continue back into the building. The theater is hard to find. Basically no signs or anything. You can enter through the Westport coffee house by walking between the bathroom and bar but not too far or you'll pass the first door on your right! This leads out above the stage and you walk down some stairs to the greeting booth. Your other option is to go through Green Room burgers and enter through the bathroom door. Why is this place so hidden? There are perfectly acceptable doors that lead to the outside, but are marked for only "emergencies" or deliveries. I guess there is a bit of hipness to going to the 'hidden theater in the basement'

This group is hilarious and I love how it's similar to Whose Line Is It Anyway. So, it was okay to get up from your seat without them coming after you. Super cheap drinks made it even better! Perfect way to start the night out.

This place was cheap and fun! You can grab a drink at the bar in the Green Room and bring it next door. The show was funny. They take suggestions from the audience. It's only $10 and the beer is pretty cheap too so it's pretty good all around if you've got a Friday or Saturday evening free. Their shows are at 8 both nights and it was a pretty good time!

Simply stated, if you're a fan of improv do not miss the opportunity to check this place out. Don't expect a Second City environment or the associated high cost. DO expect a lot of laughing. Since it is very affordable, I take my family every couple of months and we are never disappointed.
