I'm Erin J's husband, and my review is going to look pretty much the same as hers. haha! The space was PERFECT for our wedding. During the wedding, a couple friends came up to us and asked, disbelieving, "Where did you FIND this place!? It looks like you BUILT it especially for your wedding. It's just perfect!!" We felt the same way. It was exactly what we were looking for. The space is used as a photography studio during the day, and is used as an event space on weekends and evenings (I believe). It cost us about $3000 + extra fees (security, wait staff, etc), but was definitely worth it. We looked at several loft spaces in the area, and this was head-and-shoulders above the rest. The space is on the second floor of the building, which once served as a Buick dealership during the early 20th century. Remarkably, the space includes a great many original details, such as the car-sized elevator that used to bring cars up to the second floor showroom (VERY useful for bringing a/v gear, musical instruments, etc up to the space), while also feeling very hip and modern. The floors have been beautifully restored, and the colors of the space are very warm and inviting. Whoever restored the space did a fabulous job. We had both our wedding and reception at the space, and our 150 guests were accommodated quite nicely. I would strongly caution against many more than 150, however, or some of your guests won't have a place to sit. The wedding reception was held on one half of the loft, after which a curtain was drawn, and the space was reconfigured by the staff to function as a reception area, complete with tables, a DJ setup, etc. The changeover process took only 15 minutes, and we were able to entertain guests with some live jazz during the interim. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, and Sandy, the event manager, is a dream to work with. Combine this space with flowers from Craig Sole Designs and catering by Chef Nancy Stark, and you're in for a wedding to remember. Everyone told us that our wedding blew them away, and I firmly believe that Berg Event Space was a huge part of our wedding's success.

This is a review for the overall communication and tour of the event space. They do a really great job of following up and emailing you back. Even though we did not choose this space (due to the size of the space) I really liked working with the staff. A lot of these event spaces are terrible with communication and not very helpful. I am sure the Berg would be a great space for an event in the future!

AWESOME space! Was here for a wedding reception. We started outside for dinks and made our way inside. Just a cool atmosphere, layout and use of space. The food was just appetizers. The Chicken Thai Pizza was by far the BEST thing! Also, the grilled veggies which were cold were yummy, as well and not over seasoned or over dressed, just clean and let the natural flavors shine through. The pulled pork tacos was the worst food item. The bean tacos were even better :)Highly recommend this place for an event!

I absolutely loved having my wedding and reception at the Berg Event space. The venue is so gorgeous: beautifully refinished hardwood floors, amazingly awesome windows with a great view of downtown, a very unique courtyard, a huge magnetic wall for so many possibilities and the best group of people to work with. Abbi was so great to work with. She made things easy for us the day of and helped my wedding day be perfect. The bar tenders were so fun and friendly, I wish I could have them prepare my cocktails all the time! We took full advantage of the magnetic wall to add a special touch to our wedding: place settings, marquee letters and a selfie station. Seriously, if you want a fun downtown wedding with a stunning setting then book the Berg, because you won't be disappointed!

I will start out by saying the Berg Event Space is a gorgeous, modern loft style and when I look back at the pictures and the video I will be reminded of a wonderful day. That said I have several complaints. Let me start with the bar package. Only the groomsmen are permitted beers before the ceremony. The groom's father was denied a beer during this time. The rules are strict. The groomsmen complained that it was still very difficult to get a beer even though they were supposed to be permitted. I was a bit embarrassed that the alcohol package was so restrictive. Even during the reception I was disappointed with how strict they were. I found out there were no shots allowed when all the groomsmen gathered up to take a celebratory shot. There were no shots allowed even though I bought a package that included liquor. Again, we were left embarrassed in front our my guests. The Berg is not flexible, and they do not care if their lack of flexibility will cost you big time. Reading through old reviews it appears that once upon a time the Berg allowed you store items in their basement overnight. I am here to tell you that option no longer exists. With all of the rentals involved in a wedding, this creates a nightmare situation. Our vendors all acted like leaving things at the venue was a given, but when we talked to the Berg, they were nonnegotiable - even when we explained that this would turn a $200 chair rental into $700 because of overtime wages and same-day pickup. Underlying all of these complaints is the feeling that we were not valued by the Berg staff. Perhaps it's because we didn't choose their "coordination package." The price of this venue is on par with other venues in KC, and I believe you should be treated with respect as such a paying client. We were not. Our other vendors were so friendly and treated us as if they were happy we chose them to be a part of our wedding. KC has a lot of beautiful, modern venues. If I were choosing all over again, I don't know that I could say I'd choose Berg Event Space.

We held our wedding here last August and could not have been happier with the experience. The urban-loft vibe was exactly what we were going for, and the space felt warm and welcoming. Sandy, the event manager, was incredibly helpful, as were any other Berg staff we worked with. We had about 150 at our wedding, and the space was the perfect size for both our wedding and reception.

A warning: Should you be looking for the Berg Event's parking lot coming off McGee, you may accidentally try to park in TOTALLY NUDE TEMPTATIONS parking lot and see a few of their...employees...in all their glory. HOT!The Berg Event space is a great venue for medium-sized crowds. It was the perfect fit to the wedding reception I attended on Satuday and I personally just really loved the space. In contrast to Jeremy W., I didn't think the loft environment was odd, although I can see how it might not be the best space if your decorating isn't up to par. I thought it served as a beautiful backdrop for a beautiful wedding. Traditional larger round tables, a few stand-up cocktail tables and well-placed couches and lounge chairs provided enough seating for all invited. The employees made sure the food was well-stocked all throughout the night, the bartenders were funny and the outside courtyard proved to be the perfect spot to sit outside on an early Fall evening and catch a breather after rocking out to "Like a Prayer"...good to know we all still possessed amazing dance moves from our sorority days.

I was able to visit Berg Event Space on a wedding shoot I was assisting on.It's urban, lofty and pretty chic for those wanting to step away from traditional wedding locals and reception areas like dining halls, hotel banquet rooms, etc.It seems to be the rage here in KC and for the most part I'd say it's a pretty great space, especially the private area/changing room. Very cool. Something feels a little odd about having your reception basically in a loft apartment. I do love lofts and all they offer - hardwoods, brick and mortar, exposed piping, etc. but it does feel a little weird. I'm seeing someone about this feeling and trying to give it a name. You're looking at around $3,000 for a Saturday night rental for 6 hours of use and 4 hours for set-up. This obviously doesn't appear to include any catering or alcoholic beverages. Still not a bad deal for those who have the cash and want that type of experience. I'm on the fence to its mass appeal but definitely a worthy contender for an event.

My husband and were married and had our reception at the Berg Event Space in 2008, I feel horrible that I have not written a review until now. I cannot think of a better place to have our wedding. It was the most unique experience and I still get compliments from people that attended to this day. This space is FOR you IF:1) you are comfortable having your guests in "downtown Kansas City:" it is perfectly safe in my opinion2) If you are looking for a very raw space with wood floors and brick walls, exposed ceilings. This is not your mother's banquet space3) If you are not looking to seat more than 150 people at 6-top banquet style tables. We opted for a few banquet style plus cocktail tables and lounge seating.4) you are willing to spend a little extra coin to have an amazing and seamless experience. The event space coordinator was amazing and worked with us on all of our requests and also did a wonderful job in assisting coordination of our caterer, florist and photographer. I wanted to come up on the old freight elevator (I was the first bride to do it to be best of my knowledge) and she made it happen.

Great space! I booked for my wedding reception, but had to cancel after I was laid off work. I was disappointed that I didn't receive a refund of any portion of the $2,000 deposit - but it was in the contract that I'd forfeit it. The manager was such a great help and willing to humor all of my requests. I just loved that it was an out of the way venue, but still in the downtown area! So unique - definitely a gem!
