The Black Box in the bottoms is a fantastic music venue that really captures the essence of live performance. I've been there twice to hear the KC Jazz Orchestra, and both times were a treat. The intimate setting enhances the experience, allowing for a closer connection to the music and the performers. The atmosphere is vibrant, and the acoustics are great, making it a perfect spot for jazz lovers. Whether you're a regular or a first-time visitor, The Black Box offers a memorable night out filled with cool tunes and a lively ambiance. Highly recommend checking it out!

We saw Misery at the Blackbox theatre and it was FANTASTIC! The theatre is small, intimate, and the best of live performance. The cast consisted of three actors and was truly incredible. The Blackbox has a nice bar, themed drinks, and fun staff. I can't wait to go back and see another production!

Was invited to this even space. Karaoke was on a Monday. No cover fee. The atmosphere was nice and pleasant. The service was good and the drink was Amazing (perfect amount of everything). I scoped the vibe before participating in the karaoke. LGBTQ Friendly and The selection of songs was endless.

Went to two different types of performances here in 2023 and I wish I knew about them sooner! One was an amazing artist who painted with watercolor in silk and it made music! The other was the rocky horror show which was outside, first one I saw that wasn't a shadow cast. All the workers were always so nice and informative during both sessions, drinks were great, and everyone had a great time! Highly recommend doing anything in the space, in or outdoors!

Went to see the Rocky Horror (live) show a few days ago and it was great. This show is outdoor for the month of October and even though it was cold you can bring blankets and I even brought a portable heater. I would recommend bringing camping chairs, but they do have some park benches you can sit on. People dress up in costume, you can buy a prop box and they have themed alcoholic drinks for purchase. The show is very interactive with the audience and even though I tend to be more conservative, knowing what the Rocky Horror show is about I was not offended and had a really good time.

I'm so excited to see the Blackbox active and hopefully growing! We went to see their production of Clue a few weeks back and it was so much fun. We arrived a few moments late and were almost not let in, but fortunately they broke the rules for us just that one time. ARRIVE EARLY. That is my biggest advice. You don't wanna miss this! The drinks were specific to the show and were so cute and yummy. I mean come on, I've been playing Clue since I was a little girl so to drink a Professor Plum drink was all I could have ever asked for. It's an adorable little space and I love that the local talent puts so much effort into making the shows great. Not to mention, when the shows are over they open up karaoke on some nights and anybody can jump up there and sing. I also know that they do summer concerts on their back patio space so I'm definitely wanting to make that happen pretty soon here. Please go support this great local theatre!

This is truly my favorite place in Kansas City! It is the coolest space with the most interesting events! During the summer time, they have a huge outdoor space for live music and theater! And they have a stage inside for performances throughout the year as well. I love going to their parties, weird performance art, live music performances, cabarets, plays, and more! They always have a bar to purchase alcohol, and they let you bring in food from the You Wanna Pizza Me food truck that sits across the parking lot (highly recommend getting a pizza)! There is an event for everyone, I swear! I've been to live stage performances of Rocky Horror, an American folk gender swapped adaption of Pride and Prejudice, live honky tonk music, and my favorite 30 plays in 60 mins by the Pants Co! They have tons of parking in a gravel lot around the venue! Since it's the West Bottoms, the parking organization is a little lawless, but just go with the flow and park next to other cars wherever they are! I cannot express how much I love this place!

I've been interested in attending an event at The Blackbox for sometime, so I seized an opportunity this evening to attend a Fringe Festival performance there. Seating about 50 on 4 inclined rows with padded folding chairs keeps everyone close to the action in this old converted building that I assume was once a automotive repair shop - hence the glass covered grease pit next to the bar. They also have an outdoor stage / patio for performances also. I attended "Meaningless" by Oklahoma City artist Rodney Brazil. It was the a one-man performance based on the book of Ecclesiastics from the Bible. A strong performance that begged the questions of what matters, the contradictions in life and the pursuit of happiness. A great story that even this devout agnostic can get behind. Blackbox thanks for pushing the envelope for experimental and thought provoking theater in a cool space in KC's transforming West Bottoms.
