I check this place out with some friends over the weekend, They had a food truck outside for those that wanted to eat. The head brewer was there and it was very cool to talk with her about the process of brewing and what all goes into it. They had a good mix of beer with a little bit of something for everyone. The main bar is horror movie themed with a large room in the back to host events. The back room has a Cabin in the Woods feeling including the front porch area. Such a fun little bar.

Being a sucker for local breweries, I had to take the opportunity to visit Big Rip Brewing while I was across the river. North KC has several craft brewers, so take the time to visit any or all of them. Big Rip is easy to find, just across the Broadway Bridge and your first right. It's also easy to be drawn to, with the smoke smell of Hawg Jaw just next door. Nice west-facing patio, plenty of parking, and a smaller indoor area makes for a great tasting opportunity. It's all beer, so you are welcome to BYO food. I got a flight of five, anchored by their flagship brown ale 'Hathor's Sweet Brown', and for a guy who loves the malty goodness of browns, this was a total winner. Normally I wouldn't be all over the map with samples, but as a Big Rip rookie, I dabbled with a hazy ale (Arachnid) all the way to a juicy, fruited ale (Big, Red, & Shifty). All of Big Rip's offerings were good, if not great in the case of the Drake: Rakau and the Hathor's. At any rate, Big Rip is clearly brewing craft beer, and they are doing it really darn well. Nice place, they don't try to confuse you by being a beer kitchen AND brewery, and that focus allows them to offer up one of North Kansas City's better bier halls.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!First off, the beer is VERY good. I ordered a flight of a good mix and really liked all 5 of them. It was difficult to choose which one I wanted to order a pint of after. Also, the people are super friendly. I'm traveling for work and asked for some dinner recommendations. Several employees chimed in with their favorites.I will definitely be back whenever I'm in town!

Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon and it was dead. Big Rip is a horro themed brewery and is a ton of fun! We ordered a flight and loved all the beers, so we got a second flight to try some more! I'm not an IPA girl, and loved all the beers we tried that were not IPAs. My husband enjoyed the two IPAs he tried. Their vanilla cream ale is the best, and I really enjoyed the porter and the stout we tried.

Place is great to hang out. Bathrooms are a 8/10. Beer is not my favorite, but that's okay, my husband loves their Zelda. We go here like every Friday and will continue to do so! Service is epic.

The Apparition Pop Up Bar - What an amazing idea for this time of year! This rather good sized brewery had a large private back room decorated with a bunch of Nightmare Before Christmas type decor. While there wasn't any food on the menu, there were 13 unique drinks to try. Note that while a bit steep at $13 per drink (or $40 for a cauldron), they had a bit of entertainment with songs from the movie, an actor in an Oogie Boogie suit, and some live singing. Overall, it was a great place to grab a pre or post dinner drink and enjoy some amazing entertainment. If the Nightmare Before Christmas is your jam and you're open to trying a new drink or three...give this place a shot.

The customer service at Big Rip is amazing! They will take the time to explain the various beers, give samples, and take time to find out what you like to provide suggestions. The space is smaller than some but gives it a bit more intimate feel and still has a lot of options to have quiet conversations. Big Rip has a nice crowd of regulars but is still welcoming. If is a great spot to try or make yourself a regular!

The only thing I'm sad about is not coming to this brewery sooner!!! I had heard about it here and there but finally had a chance to check it out during their horror movie trivia. The brewery is small and kind of hidden but feels just so nice and genuine? The people there are super nice and helpful. The beers are SO good. I feel like in KC everything is some sort of IPA or sour but this brewery actually had a brown ale! My fav! It's pretty cool that they partner with the BBQ place next door and you can just place your order via a little kiosk. Oh yeah. The bar is HORROR THEMED. So cool. I felt truly at home. The next time I need a good beer, Big Rip is where I'll be going.

Such a fun place. They have a good variety of board games, free pop corn, a gluten free beer, and a nonalcoholic root beer. Literally something for everyone.Staff are friendly, they have food trucks here on the weekends. Loved their root beer, plenty of sasparella, just a kick of sugar--entirely refreshing.
