The Basement: A Live Escape Room Experience

We're traveling and we do escape rooms all over the states. This one was THE BEST !!! So I didn't tell my youngest who HATES horror that it was that type of escape room so he did not want to come. He was soooo mad at me. When you get there, there is a video on the screen. That is NOT what it's like. Thank Goodness !! He looked at that video and was even more livid. I asked the lady can the scare actors not go hard on him. I pointed to the video and she said Oh, that's in L.A. where it's bigger and much more. After everything was said and done, my son loved it. He said Okay, that was pretty great. All of us agreed that it was the best one that we've done out of a dozen.

This is my third time doing an escape room at the basement. I should have done a review after the first two because those experiences were much better than my most recent experiences. I came to my first escape room with the Basement in their previous location. The location on grand is nice but there is no parking which is pretty dumb considering their is a parking lot right there. It doesn't say you can't park there but when I asked if I could I was told the lot was for the event space in the same building but there was no event going on. I think they should put a sign yo at least saying it's not parking for the basement or better yet, let us park there! There's street parking but on the Friday night when we went, there was none close. We did the Aviary room and I will say by far this was the worst and most disappointing experience I have had here. We did the previous one and bought tickets in advance for this room, waited a year for a very unimpressive and what seemed to be a lazy attempt at creating a unique experience. I won't give anything away about this particular room but will say pick the other choice over this one. If i was basing my review purely off of this experience it would be a two and that's only because the employee was really nice/patient and the bathrooms were clean other than thumbs down. I gave a 3 because the other 2 times I have been were 4s. I recommend going to this escape room I just don't recommend doing The Aviary game. Hopefully they scrap this one soon and have another creative one like the classic The Basement game.

Well done!! Our performer and game master both did an outstanding job. Set was awesome. Puzzles were alright, and are a bit reading-heavy. I recommend playing with no more than 4 players, as the room is close quarters, or you get "too many cooks in the kitchen" syndrome. Note that this is only a 45 minute game unlike most escape rooms. They have a wonderfully clear policy on verbal or physical abuse toward the performer that I greatly admire- more escape room companies with performers need to use these policies. I took a photo.I want to say that part of what made the experience so cool was the lobby itself- very in the spirit of the game, making it that much more immersive.In conclusion, while I found the puzzles to be a bit lacking, the highlights here were the set/ambiance, and most particularly the performances. Bravo!!

One of the best experiences I have had doing an escape room! If you are in KC and you are interested in these adventures, The Basement needs to be crossed off of your list.This escape room caught my attention from the fact that they offer a $10 discount for frontline workers. This brought the price down to $22 per person for our group of 8, which is a very reasonable for this kind of experience.The escape room itself was 45 minutes of challenging but rewarding fun. Well 44 minutes, as we were lucky to escape with a minute left. The live performer was wonderful and stayed in character the whole time. The room is advertised as a moderate on the scare factor, and that was exactly how it was. Expect more darkness and suspense rather than jump scares. The puzzles were challenging but very doable and tends to build on one another. The escape rate of The Basement is 12%, so it was definitely rewarding when we were able to get out. There were several rooms and plenty of space to move around for our group of 8. We will definitely be back to do the sequel Study Room!

Hands down the best escape room I have been in yet! More then just one room, a live performer. After this escape room, it will be hard to enjoy your run of the mill escape rooms!

Why a fun experience! We had a great time and we were so close to beating the record!

An amazing, inventive, physical escape room! I came here in May with two friends and we managed to escape both scenarios. Definitely a must-do for puzzle buffs. I will say that the rooms are frequently very dark, which adds a layer of challenge. I appreciated the nonlinear nature of the game. Can't wait to come back when they've got more rooms!

I've done a over a dozen different escape room and The Basement is on the top of my list. It's fully interactive experience with a story that builds on one another. The one thing that makes it different from other escape rooms is the actor in the room that adds to the experience. The puzzles were challenging but solvable and its done in a way where all participants can fully engage in the room. As with many other escape room, the escape room is in a warehouse in the middle of no where. I was a bit weary pulling up to the building at 10pm for our session but I guess it adds to the scenario.If you enjoy a good evening solving puzzles, make sure you give this place a try!

So much fun! No technical difficulties for us. Great attendant too. Reasonably priced

The best escape room I have been to would love to go back there again and actually get to all the rooms. It was a very amazing experience. The actors were very helpful and gave clues but still is character till the end. The host was amazing about giving instructions before we went in.
