This restaurant is just ok. I've eaten here both when it first opened and again 2 years later when they moved to their new location on South street. Both times the food was just meh. They did have new waitstaff the 2nd time and the young girl admitted she was new, I won't go too hard on her for that as we were all new at a job at some point in our lives. I've only ever eaten breakfast here because that's the meal I eat out most often. Price wise this is an affordable place to eat. That being said the food is basic. I got a 2 egg breakfast and I did get a piece of eggshell in my over easy eggs which turned me off enough I didn't finish eating them. I asked for bacon and got sausage, never got hash browns even though they came with the meal, and the coffee was burnt tasting. The waitress never brought any condiments or asked if we needed hot sauce etc.. but again she was new. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast and while it was good it is 1/2 the size of Daddy's 10-13 diner across the river in Richmond. The tab for two people was 25$, but at Daddy's we usually pay 30-35$ but the portions are way bigger and the food is just better. This place is a solid 3 out of 5 if you need breakfast and don't want to cook for yourself at home it's worth it. Don't expect to be bowled over with the cooking, it is basic breakfast food.

Closed.. no notice on the door.. no wonder businesses don't make it in this town .. will remove it a for good reason ..a simple sign posted on the door goes a long way .. a marker and a sheet of paper..and a simple post on social media..(Facebook)

The staff was very friendly and attentive, and the location is historic, quaint, and centrally located in downtown Lexington. They let us order lunch even though we were 15 minutes early for that menu, which was much appreciated. My wife had the open faced tenderloin with mashed potatoes and corn. The tenderloin was topped with a tasty cream gravy and the combo was hearty and flavorful. I opted for their patty melt with onion rings. The burger was decent, but the onion rings were exceptional. Our bill was only $26.61 (and that is including a 20% tip). We shall return and we look forward to trying their breakfast options.

We took a Sunday drive to Lexington from Kansas City. We found Sunrise Cafe to have great food, it's a family operation with good home cooked food. A friendly atmosphere and the menu fit all of our tastes. Definitely worth stopping at, we'll be back!
