I seldom drink and I no longer smoke, but this place draws me in, anyway. (My brother-in-law and sister-in-law live just blocks away in Sugar Creek/Independence, and they are longtime regulars here.)Pure Fifties/Sixties kitsch in this blue collar bar that's connected to (!!!) a bowling alley. (Wait until you see the banquettes and murals alike!)Laugh all you like, but I find The Verona Room to be a little slice of Americana at its most fun.Posh? Hardly -- quite the opposite. But a good place for a well mixed cocktail while in the area? You could do a helluva lot worse, kid.

Small dive bar / lounge on the north side of 24 Highway If you blink you'll miss it. It's attached to the Sterling Lanes bowling alley but has a separate entrance. There's nothing too special about this place, just a dank little hangout. The bartender was helpful, though.Since it's on the Sugar Creek side of US-24, smoking is legal. So, if you're a smoker, there you go!

This is my favorite bowling alley. It's not the cleanest place, but everyone is so nice, and it's a great atmosphere. We go almost every week on sundays !

If you are a smoker you are going to love it. It's one of the only places I know that still let's people smoke inside. Of course, I'm not a smoker so this isn't a plus for me. If you don't smoke you'll not like it. Its mostly folks in their late 30s or older. It's not a hip place. But sometimes people are looking for a little dive to have a drink. I would recommend this place. The staff is what makes it great. Jill is the best.

As a defense to the other review, I believe the 6P's and the saying is Pre Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance. I have bowled all over the KC Metro area for the last 30 and this is by far my favorite place to go. This is one the last mom and pop style bowling alleys and I absolutely love going it. I was taken there when I was a young boy and have taken my now 14 year old daughter there since she was just a little girl using one of those big metal ramps and bumpers. We enjoy the staff very much as we both have bought our own balls through the pro shop and had several drilled out over the years. They have the best lanes in the area and we have tried everywhere else even as far as Olathe, Ks and out to Columbia, Mo. They have cheap pricing and are very easy to find availability with just a little bit of planning. There are very few bowling centers where you can just randomly walk in and catch open bowling anymore, but these guys do their very best to keep it local. Me and my daughter are very social people and we love dollar days where the alley has $1 games, $1 shoe rental, and $1 hot dogs from noon to 5 most Sundays. Once in a while they do have tournaments which does kill the day, but a simple phone call will solve that issue. They are family owned and only have about 5 people that work there full time so sometimes things get a bit hectic and it is northern independence/sugar creek, so the time of day does affect the element of the crowd, but again......a little planning and a quick phone call goes a long way for your adventure. I personally am getting ready to try to begin get my pro card through the PBA in 2019 and that means I have to begin this league season to make the proper averages and have the credentials next year to get my pro card, and when I do, I will be making sterling bowl my home center and sterling pro shop my pro shop that I represent. I am from sugar creek but I have lived as far away as Warrensburg, Mo where we had an alley on campus at UCM that was even free to me as a student but I would still come back here, and even when I lived at 85th and Holmes in Kansas City, would go nowhere else. I love this place, i love taking my family there, and someday i will be taking my grandkids up there (hopefully not too soon cause my daughter isn't allowed to date boys til she's at least 30...lol). I read the other review and just couldn't allow that to the the image of Sterling Bowl. They are a great, local, family owned bowling alley who do their damnedest to hang on in this day and age or corporate conglomerate fun center tourist trap rip off's. So I commend them for being what they are and doing what they do, and they have my family's loyalty and will receive every dime and dollar that we spend towards bowling for years a decade's to come. So my advice is to call and check the website, then bring yourself out to sugar creek and have some fun at Sterling Bowl, You might just mess around and have a good time. Good luck and keep doing what you do Sterling Bowl! See you soon!

This place has a helpful barkeep, cheap drinks and nicotine dripping from the wall. The moment you open the door you can light up a smoke and remember what a bar is supposed to be like. Then as you wax-poetic of a bygone age, you can sigh a small breath of relief knowing that freedom can still be breathed here........ one pack at a time.

Great staff. If my rating was based on only the staff...5 stars. Lanes/ball returns have gouged two of my balls. It is the only reason they arent getting 5 stars. The equipment is old and needs better maintenance/replacement.

Sterling is one of the last real bowling alleys in the greater KC area. I've bowled here numerous times over the years and even bowled my first league their last summer. The house may not be the most updated alley, but I think that's part of its charm. The place is clean, The staff are friendly, the pro shop is quality, the bar and snack bar are ran well and the food is cheap. The lanes (as well as the concourse/bowlers area) are in good shape and they actually know how to consistently dress the lanes (which you don't seem to find with a few select houses in KC). I'm bowling here again this summer and I'm very much looking forward to it.
