We had the best staycation at the Southmoreland boutique hotel in Kansas City (near the Country Club Plaza). Our room had a large and comfortable bed, a jacuzzi tub, a keurig in the room, and more. The rooms and personal bathrooms are immaculate and clean. This boutique hotel is walking distance from the Country Club Plaza and close to several brunch spots and coffee shops. There is a back patio with a fireplace and several spots to enjoy a morning coffee. Make sure to hang out in the stunning dining room, the patio room, and the beautiful living space to enjoy the full stay. The reservation and check-in process is seamless. Whether you are in town looking for a place to stay, or a current resident wanting a staycation, the Southmoreland on the Plaza should be at the top of your search list!

We really enjoyed our Valentine's Day weekend stay at this cute bed and breakfast situated just blocks from the Country Club Plaza!!! I would have given it 5 stars except we did run into a couple of nuisances. The good: Most of the staff were extremely friendly and attentive. The first night we checked in, there were even some chocolate dipped strawberries waiting in our room. A small, unexpected gesture that really impressed us. The decor throughout the establishment was mid-century modern and created a warm, inviting environment for guests. Their weekend breakfast service was also pretty delicious! We stayed in the "Clara & Russell Stover" room up on the third floor. The room was nicely decorated, the bed was quite comfy, and we LOVED the jacuzzi tub!The not-so-great: The house ran kind of cold. Our room had a small electric heater but we had to run it continuously to keep the temperature above 65 degrees throughout the day/night. Also, while the breakfast was quite good, their breakfast booking system (weekends only) didn't save my dietary restrictions, and the lack of communication on how exactly breakfast worked left me low on options. The girl that was working on Valentine's Day proper mentioned she was newer so asked the head chef about my concerns. Unfortunately, the chef was probably the only unpleasant person I had to deal with. She seemed fairly combative on any concerns that I mentioned. Overall, we both loved our stay and would likely stay again if we are ever in need of a weekend getaway in the Plaza. However, at $250/night, it did slightly disappoint us that the last interaction we had was with the defensive chef. We will probably try out a couple of other hideaways before we circle back to Southmoreland.

I wouldn't consider any other hotel, hostel, room, or inn for my future Kansas City visits. This place is the cat's meow. Check-in is at 4:30, and if you're early like us, you can relax in the sitting room and have some water while you play a game. You'll get a tour of the property and review "housekeeping" notes. Each evening, you're asked to put in your breakfast order for the next morning - you choose the seating time and request half or full portions. Breakfast is absolutely OUTSTANDING! It was different everyday and so tasty. The barbecue breakfast on Saturday was so special - I didn't know you can grill french toast. I can't skip talking about the sleep quality, because the bed in Thomas Hart Benton is out of this world comfortable. I swear, it was as if I settled down and didn't move an inch. All the sherry they leave you for the evening probably contributed to my restfulness. Speaking of amenities, we only enjoyed evening wine and snacks once because we were out all day, but we enjoyed cookies ALL THE NIGHTS. The place is immaculate, hot water pressure top notch, and linens soft. Above all, Nancy, Rebecca, Angela, and all the innkeepers were so welcoming. It's staffed 24 hours a day, so it all the charm and warmth of a B&B with the security and services of a hotel. I can't think of a negative thing to say. Even the parking situation, that some people found challenging, wasn't that bad. TLDR: It's an easy drive to basically anywhere in the KC region. I don't recommend pickup trucks or oversized vehicles in the parking lot. There is plenty of street parking.

My wife and her sister planned this as a chance for us to get together for a fun weekend (they live in Omaha, NE and we live in Columbus, OH). We picked Kansas City since we would be passing thru there on our way to Denver and my sister-in-law recommended this place as a BnB that she had stayed at in the past. This is an urban BnB in the Plaza District of Kansas City. From the Inn, it is an easy walk to the Nelson-Atkins Art Museum and to the "downtown" or Plaza District. The plaza district offers wide variety of shopping and dining opportunities and you don't need your car.The rooms are all unique and I would urge you to check their web-site before selecting a room. Our rooms were both very comfortable and both had some balconies that would seat 4 (ours even had swing). The real treat, however, was their "BBQ breakfast" (Saturdays only and only during the summer and fall). Grilled pork chops with grilled French toast that was served with a bourbon, pecan dressing and croissants, juice, coffee, tea, etc. Sunday's breakfast was Huevos rancheros with some homemade bread plus the usual coffee, tea and juice. It was also an excellent breakfast but Saturday's was really special. They also have a "reception" from 4:30 to 6:00 with wine. One day it was cheese and crackers; the other it was a homemade Artichoke dip with crackers. The Artichoke dip was outstanding. Then - every evening - they have homemade cookies with coffee or tea.The public areas (an enclosed porch, a dining room, a living room, the breakfast room) provided nice areas to sit and socialize - not just with the four of us but with other guests as well. The owner was on-site (and cooked the Saturday breakfast). She nad her staff were all exceptionally nice and very accommodating. Please note that they have a strict 4:30 check in time but they'll allow you to hang out in the living room while they finish prepping the rooms - but there are no early check ins.

We have been staying annually at the inn for our anniversary for several years now. We have always had wonderful a time here. It is a beautiful home practically on top of the plaza and it's great restaurants and shopping. And just as close to museums. Although the inn has been sold by the owners that we knew here, I am sure that we will continue to return to this little slice of heaven, as long as the new owners continue to employ and seek out staff like Meagan. We were a little disappointed when we first arrived to find out that the inn had been sold, and that some of the special services that we had enjoyed over the years were no longer part of the routine. However, Meagan quickly made our stay a special and personal experience to add to our memories. By the time we left we felt like family. Well done.

My husband and I stayed here for a mini honeymoon for three nights. From the second we got there we felt right at home. The rooms were clean and cute, our private balcony was also very nice and used every night. The homemade breakfast every morning was to die for and the Sherry in our room was a nice extra touch! They set up the iron if I needed it and I always had a glass of milk to go with our homemade cookies at night. We were walking distance to the plaza as well as a few museums. We will definitely be going back as well as refer our family members when they hopefully come to visit us in the future! HIGHLY recommend!!

We were very disappointed in this place. We rented Jersey Coates room and it was so tiny it was hard to move around. The bed sunk in the middle. The light in the bathroom turned the fan on and it was extremely loud. And check this out......bed post right in the middle of the view of the tv. I will say it was clean and in a nice location.

Whenever I visit Kansas City this place is a go-to. Much quieter than a big hotel, and so much more character as well. Feels much homier! I didn't mind that they no longer offer breakfast here because there are so many restaurants to choose from. Love how walkable everything is from Plaza shopping to viewing the art at the Nelson.

We had the best experience at this inn. The building is decorated so beautifully, and the room is superb. We got a room with a fireplace, and it was so nice to unwind with the fire at night. The bed was very comfortable, and the bedding was super plush and soft. We enjoyed eating breakfast near the gorgeous windows. We loved our stay and will definitely be back next time we come to KC!
