If you have an autistic kid don't go there. My daughter was having so much fun and this was our second time going and never had any issues the first time. My daughter is still a learner and was having some trouble skating but she was trying. Well today I had the manager approach me and tell me I had to get my daughter off the skate ring in a very rude and aggressive way. My daughter was just trying to learn and I made sure she was in the center of the ring to avoid issues with other skaters. I proceeded to tell him she was autistic and that she has a little difficulty learning he didn't seem to care as right away he told me he was going to help me walk her out of the ring. I don't understand why he didn't give me the option to have her skate on the side of the ring as all the other learner kids that were also there learning. I felt very discriminated by his attitude towards me and my daughter. I was very excited for this to be a new activity for my daughter with autism.

Kids had fun tor my daughters 6th Birthday. It was a little pricey at almost $200 for 1 1/2 hour table rental, 2 pizzas, clean up, skate rental for 15 people and extra skate rental for a later date. But all and all it was really worth it and my daughter said it was the best birthday ever.

The staff is awesome and very accommodating. This was the first time we used a skating rink for a birthday party. The kids had a blast. I highly recommend the 12:00 noon - 2:00 p.m. time slot. The part

This is a formal complaint coming from a mother who just wanted her child to have an amazing 13th birthday. Remember, consumers choose where they want to spend their money.Saturday night, 9/30/17 my 13 year old son and his 7 friends went to Skate City Shawnee for his birthday party accompanied by his 18 year old sister; my daughter. The kids were verbally abused by both the manager Miranda and the DJ Alan whom were working that night. Per my daughter, along with her friend and boyfriend, the DJ was yelling and cursing out children because one of the kids called him a name. Soon to follow all 8 kids along with their adult Chaperones were "kicked out". The birthday boy went to get his presents from the party (including cash) from a cubby where their shoes were stored. To his surprise, all of his gifts and money were gone. The DJ told him he "threw it away, because it was trash." Then the manager and DJ forced the kids (screaming "get the (bleep) off my property or they were going to call LAPD",) completely off the property and all 9 of them had to wait at the business next door for their parents to arrive. We are paying customers and spent $150 of our hard earned money for my son to have a good birthday with his friends. How dare you ruin this time for him. Now, because of the actions of the employees, this will be the memory he has. Shame on you...#1) stealing from children?!?#2) Screaming and cursing out a child because they disrespected you? (Meaning you overheard a 12 year old call you a name, indirectly) Grow up. Be a professional. Be an example. I could go on and on. My husband called Skate City immediately and was told by the "manager" that he could not have the owners # and to file any complaints to skatecity.com. End of story. The employees of a kid friendly establishment need to respect all clientele. Regardless if they are kids, teenagers or adults.

We have been coming here for birthdays for years now. I was surprised to see the place has had a facelift since we were there last time. I was excited to see the advertisement for the adult skate night- thinking to myself about getting a sitter and takin the wife out for an evening of roller passion. It's been at least a year since we were here and gone are the stained ceiling tiles, rickety tables and skanky cinderblock walls. Unfortunately there are still improvements to be made. Tables needed cleaned, and floors needed swept. We had a situation where the ticket counter did not count our tickets accurately. After loading in at least a good forty tickets with my three year old, I realized that the machine wasn't even counting them. It counted 60 plus tickets as a messily 13. This wasn't a big deal because basically my kid got to pick from low budget candy items. 50 tickets was the difference between a mint and a tootsie pop. All in all, the kids had a great time skating and dancing at the birthday party. We will be back, I'm sure and I hope to update my review at that time.

I have been to several skate places in the metro (usually on Saturday/Sunday afternoons), but I have to say that this is the most crowded with kiddos that I have ever seen. This is a great place for you if you have children who are learning to skate, since they have wheeled frames that the kids can lean on while learning. I have never seen anything like this and, as you will see, i am not a big fan (see below). On the other hand, if you are an adult who knows how to skate this is VERY SCARY! Tons of kids and frames on the floor, literally, create a land-mine effect, just waiting to trip you and create some sort of broken/sprained/twisted joint situation that is very unsavory. The music was pop, for the most part, and there were the traditional skate games of limbo and freeze. I did not hit the snack bar, but they appeared to have standard fare. The skates were very nice (clean and new-looking), and they also have in-lines, if that is your thing.I would go back, but just as a warning to those with limited skills or patience, I'd uggest looking in to hitting up the 18 and over events that they have, or you are destined to take a tumble.

Can you dig it? Those days of rollerskating back in the 70s and 80s arent forever gone!Skate World has been around ever since I was a little rugrat, and it has kept up through the decades, rollerskating, bubble gum machines, video games, snack shop, prize station. What more could a kid want?On the first Thursday of every month is ADULT NIGHT! back to DISCO, AND 80's! I havent personally gone to that, but it sounds like fun hehe.My daughter loves coming here, of course its always a great time to go with friends :DOn MKL jr day we spent 5 hours there! what the heck? but it was worth it, my daughter had a good time, they had dollar hot dogs and slices of pizza for 1.25, pretty good price. On Presidents Day they are going to do it again, 11 - 4 pm 5 HOURS of skating for 7.25 Good Times and Good Memories

The floor is tile, not wood like others are. It had obvious spots of repair that looked like they would snag skates, but actually rolled pretty well.I went to this location because of the music eras listed for adult skate nights. The adult skate at the OP location played only one genre style music, and not a single song I knew in 2 hours. Unfortunately, Shawnee only played one genre of the 70s music, none of which I knew. I was expecting pop music. It was mostly R&B/Soul. NO Queen, Bee Gees, Beach Boys, ABBA, Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, Beatles, Chicago, Croce, Michael Jackson (did play one Jackson 5)... where was 'Jeremiah was a Bullfrog'... not here. I did like they reverse skated a bit. The announcer was dogging the chiefs the week before the superbowl, so that wasn't cool to me. I didn't try the concession stand or restroom. If I drove the distance to this location again, I'd take a headset. But I can do that at the OP location and not drive as far, so not likely.

Had a great time! Only downfall are the skaters going too fast and knocking out other skaters and those little kids learning how to skate with those instruments on wheels as helpers. Those aren't so bad, really, but the kids going the wrong direction whose parents are MIA are pretty dangerous.

My family's favorite skating rink in the metro area. We drive from Blue Valley to go to this location. The employees are the biggest draw. Attentive and friendly. At the other locations they seem to be too busy skating and showing off (or on their phones). Here you will find great employees. The music is so much better as well! We will be back.
