Seeking Solace is the best yoga studio I have found in Kansas City, or maybe anywhere, actually. The main instructor, Colleen, is also its owner and founder. She is remarkable, and her teaching has benefitted me tremendously. I am sleeping better and have more energy, strength, and flexibility. When I arrived, my yoga experience was quite basic. I had very little flexibility. She is a patient teacher, and she guided me and the other students through the challenges of certain postures. My practice improved greatly thanks to her. She is very observant, and also extremely intuitive. She offers modified poses for newbies like me, or advanced variations, for those who have a stronger practice. The practice has a spiritual side, too, and Colleen is an excellent guide here, also. While calling the poses by their Sanskrit names, she offers a focus on the breath, encouraging students to get out of their heads when they practice. Classes end on the chant of Om (peace), and in poses, sometimes mantras are given, such as "I am peace." Another favorite of mine is the So Hum meditation. I love the spiritual side, and I feel that students who don't get this are really missing something key.The setting at Seeking Solace is so wonderful, too, and the first thing you notice when entering the studio is what a special place it is. People have posted photos, but they don't do justice to the place. It is at once grounding and energizing, clean and harmonious. You feel good when you enter, and it also feels like a sacred space, a safe haven away from the hustle and bustle of the world. The room offers a view of a peaceful rock garden where there are flowers, and when I was there, in the Fall, a couple of pumpkins.Colleen's knowledge extends also to nutrition and anatomy. During class, as poses are being done, she offers information about the way the joints, muscles, and ligaments all come together. She also points out when doing certain poses can help in our daily lives, and can even help people to avoid surgeries later. In contrast, I had previously practiced at studios with rooms heated to 95 degrees, where it was all about how much you can sweat and how to show off your moves. Here, it's quite the opposite. Seeking Solace is about finding lasting benefit, with a top-notch teacher, in a friendly group of yogis. I highly recommend Seeking Solace.

Colleen's extensive yoga training, enthusiasm, and genuine caring and compassion all contribute to an incredible yoga experience. She focuses on the needs of clients and is always thinking of how to include movements/poses tailored to a client's areas of concern. Colleen incorporates the knowledge she's gained throughout her years of training as a key element in her teaching, resulting in a comprehensive yoga experience. I initially used a Groupon and Colleen was incredibly helpful throughout the Groupon redemption process.

What a warm space with a caring instructor! The location can be a challenge to reach, there's no sign to search for but once you get there you'll be grateful. The ambience is fantastic, perfect for a relaxing experience. I felt welcomed and at home, the space is small but don't take that as a negative sign. The space accommodates 12 people comfortably, this allows the instructor to have time for one on one. The front wall of the yoga room has a garden for you to enjoy during your practice, helps when trying to find something to focus on. I went to a group yoga session and had a lovely experience. The instructor makes time throughout the session to walk around and aid any of those in need. She genuinely cares about our success and experience in the practice. It nice to see this, especially in a full class like ours. She has a beautifully personality that makes people gravitate towards her. She not only teaches yoga but offers 2 hour tai chi massages... something to try in the future. My only complaints would be the hours, most of the sessions are in the daytime and not many options for late evening.

Another great Yelp event, as usual. The location is in a quiet business center, and the studio itself was very homey and relaxing. One of the cleanest studios I have ever been in. It was very nicely decorated, I loved all the buddhas. Colleen was an amazing yoga instructor - she was very thorough, and watched each person closely. She really made sure you felt comfortable, no matter your skill level. She used blocks, blankets, alternate poses, etc, to modify for each person. Tons of breath work. I agree with my fellow Yelpers - Colleen was very caring. I liked the tea lights and music, ambiance was relaxing. By and far the best yoga session I've ever had. She also does 2-hour thai massage sessions, and I will definitely be booking one of those. Shout out to our Yelp intern for the post-yoga noshes! Now hooked on Annie's fruit tape. :)

I am so glad that I stumbled upon Seeking Solace. My experience there (which has included taking every single class offered, from more than one instructor) has been instrumental in the growth of my own yoga practice.I have not only experienced a welcoming, calming, and nurturing version of each type of class taken. But I have managed to learn more in the classes taken at Seeking Solace, than I feel like I have learned in the past few years of various classes overall. The instructors take an active and very individual approach with each student. I feel that this carries over to each class depending on the group in attendance that day as well. I personally appreciate and thrive in an environment where the instructor is dedicated to truly providing the best possible class to each individual person there. There are a variety of classes throughout the week, and thus far one on the weekend (which could increase). The classes include Yoga for EVERYbody, Restorative Yoga, Progressive Yoga, and Core & Restore (which is a real treat because you get the best of both types of yoga - and a restorative cool-down)There are props provided for use during class provided at the studio, as well as various packages , and the option to take drop-in classes.

I don't know how the KC Yelp Team does it? Who do I have to thank to opening my eyes to a completely hidden gem of a yoga studio nestled in residential OP? Thanks to a bendy Yelp event with a lot of kicka** females, I'm still not too sure why men are intimidated by practicing yoga, I was recently introduced to Seeking Solace Yoga Studio. The practice we all experienced was truly a fully connected mind-body-soul journey with sensory pleasures like lavender scented eye pillows and echoing wind chimes throughout class. The pace of flow was easy for a novice like me to follow and the time spent in each pose wasn't overbearing, allowing for a full stretch but never any intense pain. Our yogi guide had breathtaking awe-inspiring photos of herself in the studio doing traditional yoga poses in non-traditional locations like the Grand Canyon and Death Valley. The meditation garden beyond the glass sliding doors outside the studio provided a peaceful focal point during challenging balancing positions like tree pose. During the entire practice I appreciated how our instructor used traditional phrases and names to call poses and guide us through our sun salutation. Her voice provided an additional calming sensory element to accompany the session, leaving class I felt relaxed to the core and restored. I felt as though I was baptized in the yogi spirit and cannot wait to return to experience the cleansing sensation I felt again.

Colleen is an excellent instructor! I have attended both in-person and by Zoom. The classes are a gentle mix of yoga and pilates, which is good for me as a 72 year old in reasonably good shape. Colleen is very thorough in instructing and uses lots of imagery ("imagine your spine is a string of pearls") which helps foster the learning to know one's body. In the studio she is very attentive to each student and watches to assist poses. The space is warm, clean, visually appealing, and orderly. The classes I attend are restorative, I would say, where some props are used. This is not the tpe of class where more time is spent arranging than actually engaging your body..She also instructs in how to modify a pose or movement and givers space to do that depending on your needs. What has been helpful for me personally is stretching of muscle groups, and the attention paid to moving hip and shoulder joints which are often problem areas for seniors. Yesterday's session involved legs and hips--"drawing circles on the ceiling", doing bridges, and more than I can't recall right now. We also take time to shake out muscles after movement. Within 12 hours I had some relief of pain, which says a lot about the benefits of this work.

Colleen hosted myself and my friends and family for part of my bachelorette weekend. We did the restorative yoga class and my expectations were greatly exceeded. Colleen was very welcoming and made us all feel comfortable and relaxed. The process to book was very easy and her communication was great as well. We will definitely be back!

Colleen's yoga classes are amazing. I found her when I was looking for a restorative yoga class and since my first class I have never missed another class when I have availability. It is relaxing, soothing, and the most calming experience I have ever had in a yoga class. I HIGHLY recommend it!
