Beautiful arrangement of a dozen roses

Peas and carrots, red wine and steak, Hall and Oates, flowers and anniversaries. They're all natural partners that make sense together and complement each other. Selecting and buying flowers can be a tough decision for anyone, especially guys who don't know much about them (me). People who simply think "these are pretty," or "any kind of flower will impress," are wrong. It takes skill, a keen eye for detail, and the right product to make a floral arrangement come to life. All of these attributes are exuded by Santee Floral, tucked in between First Watch and Chipotle on College Blvd near Corporate Woods in OPKS. Yesterday I was desperate for some flowers for my wife. Woulda, shoulda, coulda ordered them in advance, but I'm a last minute kind of guy. Santee Floral popped up on my Yelp search and I decided to give it a whirl. After my experience there, I'm wondering why I haven't gone there before for all of my floral needs. There were several pre-made arrangements in the sliding glass cooler that were very beautiful, but not exactly what I was looking for. Patty, the owner, offered to whip up a quick arrangement for me if I had time to wait. I asked for a dozen roses. I not only received a beautiful arrangement of flowers, I got an education. Swiftly grooming the roses, you could tell this was a labor of love, something she had done before and done well. While she whisked away the stems and thorns, Patty explained where the roses came from (Ecuador), tips for arrangement and care, and other botanical points of interests. She was professional, friendly, and created a beautiful vase full of roses for my anniversary. You have choices when it comes to flowers. FTD or Teleflora are the stand-bys, but you don't get the experience of the floral shop. They also tend to be very expensive. Proflowers or 1800Flowers, but you won't get the arrangement - they just come in a box and you have to fix them yourself. Trader Joes for 5 bucks, but you're buying 5 dollar flowers. A dozen pink and red roses plus a vase for 65 is a great deal. FTD easily charges you 75 + service fees + delivery + tax. I'll continue to use Santee Floral for my special occasions in the future. You can't put a price on sterling customer service, an outstanding product, and an educational experience.

Owner and Designer Patty Santee delivered the arrangement for the funeral herself. It's just beautiful! I know where I will get flowers from now on.

Prom season!! Patty did a lovely job on the corsage & boutonniere for the Boy & his date. She took a corsage design from the idea book, modified it to something I thought the date would like a bit better, then put it on a custom bracelet instead of the boring old elastic wrist band. The matching boutonniere was improvised, and equally awesome. The kids looked great & the price was totally reasonable, under $50. I know where I'm going for anything flower-related in my future!

This is a great locally owned floral and gift shop! Their new location is lovely right outside Corporate Woods. Stop in for fresh flowers, gifts or great home decor. They've got a great Friday special on fresh flowers too.

A colleague of mine ordered flowers for a small reception at work from this florist. She had never ordered from them before but they are located extremely close to our place of business so she decided to order from them. The arrangements were to be delivered by noon so when they hadn't arrived by 12:15pm she began calling to see when they would arrive. She called several time with no answer and finally left a message. They returned her call at 12:35pm and said they did not have any order for her. My colleague told here that was troubling since some took all the information and credit card for payment. The caller looked around and found the order and said they could have the arrangements made and delivered by 1:00pm. The flowers came by the stated time but if my colleague hadn't taken the time to follow up they would not have been any flowers.

My mother recently passed away and I immediately went to Patty for help with her arrangements. Patty Santee has known my family since 1979 and has helped us with wedding flowers, anniversary and birthday arrangements. I went in there thinking I wanted something pink and white for mom and told Patty how mom always loved the strong colors of the fall. No problem, she had on hand for me to visualize something that mom would've loved. Amazing colors that fit perfectly for her. My family had no worries, we were in good hands. We thank you for all you do.

My boyfriend wanted to surprise me with flowers for our anniversary on Aug. 29. And surprise he did. He spent $75 on this poorly put together bouquet and then whomever was working the counter told him to seat belt it into the seat of his truck to get it home?! Didn't even offer him a box to keep it fresh and nice. One of the stargazer lilies was broken when he finally did get it home after it spilled in the front seat of his pickup. When he phoned to tell what had happened, he got a lukewarm "sorry" and the person hung up. How in the heck do you stay in business with this complete lack of customer service? Rest assured he will go to Hy-Vee from now on for his floral business. We won't recommend you to ANYONE. Guys, if you want to get your gal nice flowers, this isn't the place. If I could give it half a star, I would have. It doesn't deserve the one I had to give it.

If you're wanting to receive a beautiful bouquet of flowers, I recommend NOT using the Santee shop close to Corporate Woods. My boyfriend sent me a surprise bouquet as a congratulations for my one year not smoking. When I received the delivery at my Corporate Woods office, the flowers were wilted and damaged. No one should have to pay florist prices for what I received. Plus, my office was right down the road from the shop....there's no reason the flowers should have arrived in the condition they were in. VERY disappointed that my boyfriend got taken advantage of.
