Sala de Arte

Sala de Arte or The Art Room in English; was my 5th stop on the Historic Northeast Neighborhood Art Crawl. Sala de Arte might reside in a small building but it has a large heart. The owner / curator Phyllis Hernandez has packed the space with works from local artists that range in size, style and price. From traditional Latin American paintings to pop culture pieces using sports, anime and hip-hop imagery . Not only is this older high ceiling gallery full of vibrant pieces to admire and purchase, but serves as an artistic home for the creatives in the neighborhood. Spoken word performances, open mic nights and children's arts events all take place here. Certainly not the most recognized gallery or arts center in KC, but one that is filling a large need in the neighborhood and a link across cultures; well worth a visit if you have a passion for the local arts scene.
