Red Shanty

Started with Burnt ends, ended with the double portion Hobo dinner. The Brisket is Great the sauce was good. But the sides will throw you. The potato Salad was a big surprise not what I'm used to being from the South. The home made Kettle Fries the Baked Beans were different again vinegar taste but Damn it was good! A very pleasant surprise so glad we went Shanty Style.

Way over priced and if you're not a big meat eater don't go. I had no choice it was the destination for my cousins birthday. There was eight of us and I believe three people enjoyed their meals. The best thing I had was dessert, which the selection was on a board. Mine was yummy but oh m goodness the price was almost as high as my nachos. Has a small store in it and bought some great salt water taffy.

I ponied up $20.89 + tip at a lunch stop here en route to Minneapolis. A refillable soft drink (Pepsi products) complemented a two meat tray (burnt ends and brisket) with sides of fried green beans and and fried homestyle chips. The meats were disappointingly dry, and bland. I ended up saucing both. In contrast, both sides were excellent, and I especially recommend the voodoo seasoning for the chips. In sum, I received a lot of food for what I paid, and can only hope that the kitchen was having an off day when it came to the meat.

Passing through and deciding to stop for our first restaurant since leaving Mesa, AZ and destination Minnesota! This was a wonderful stop! The hostess welcomed us with excitement as we were "passers through" and she wanted us the experience their amazing food (clearly). Good came out quickly, waitress was very sweet, and the gentleman had a warm goodbye. Cute place, too. I must say, we don't usually have the warm was anywhere we go like we did here! I had the brisket wrap with beans and my husband the brisket sandwich with (homemade) chips. Sooo good!

We were passing through the area today and saw the past reviews for this place and decided to check it out. When we first pulled in the parking in the front was pretty full but there is a lot of room in this "Shanty"! The front area had a bar and small liquor store and seating to the left and right. I would recommend the covered outdoor dining area in the back. The entire place had really cool decor and it was very homey. I ordered the Hobo Pack which comes with your choice of 2 meats and 2 sides. I chose the Brisket and Smoked sausage with potato salad and bbq beans. Everything I had was homemade and smoked there. Even the sausage was made on-site. It was all really good but the beans were just ok. My wife had the BBQ nachos with brisket. We did not read the menu close enough and discovered that rather than tortilla chips it comes with homemade potato chips. It was different but the chips were very tasty! Our waitress was super nice and it was almost like we were just talking with a friend. All in all it was a great experience and would definitely recommend.

Excellent!! The food was amazing! The sides were on point, and all made in house. The service was fantastic, and it is the cutest little place! Love the decor!You won't be sorry for trying this place- great food and a great experience!

Hubby and I found this restaurant through Yelp. We've been here several times now and the food and service are always fantastic. Their burnt ends are so good. I've been to some of the "best" bbq restaurants in KC and have had dry burnt ends more times than I care to remember. Their pulled pork is also excellent. Love their ooey gooey butter cake and the hummingbird cake! So glad we started going out to eat here. We will be back!

My absolute favorite place to get fantastic KC BBQ! Family from out of town insist on going there every time they visit. On top of gray bbq, they have the best homemade chips! all the way!!

Met with classmates. Bill was $29 each and only had sandwich and one side, plus drink. Brought cake and they charged $32 to serve to 16 people. Way over priced for mediocre food. Won't go back.

What a find! Could this place be any cuter? So much to look at with the decor. The food was terrific with HUGE servings. The waitress was fast and extremely helpful making excellent suggestions without being pushy. This is for sure worth the 4 mile detour off HWY 70.
