I though the entrance to the gallery was very welcoming. It had a good amount of natural light and the it was kind of working the whole modern warehouse look - which has its appeal. I found The Prairiebrooke to be well designed to house art in its open, airy natural setting with an interesting metallic-y silver and bronze floor and recessed lighting. I think the venue actually made some of the art look more appealing to me. The guy working the room asked me if I needed anything, which I did not. I told him I was just in there to look. He told me to grab some complimentary cookies before heading back to work on framing. PG not only sells the work of artists, but they also specialize in custom framing and design display. I peaked into their workshop where they do the framing and it's more like a garage. They do some serious work back there; I think I even saw a flicker from a blowtorch. My thinking is, if a gallery spends that much of its space working to make your purchased painting framed so well, it's a two in one masterpiece. You don't have to buy a painting at location A and then drag it to location B for framing - it's just handy.I'm not sure about the presentation of the art in the back. I found a really cool Picasso-like painting shabbily hung in the coffee break room next to the fridge - huh? It was strange. Why did they need six offices anyways - it just took away the space needed in the main gallery room so that they were forced to hang paintings in poor places - like the break room where few customers wander anyways. If I were the artist, that would be unacceptable marketing on their part - I mean honestly, who would do that? I liked the main gallery though. The brick walls were fitting to the scheme of the design and the leather seating area was a nice touch. I really like how the guy trusted me enough to be alone in his space. Keep in mind, I had spent the last two hours being followed around by skeptical older women who thought I was trying to steal - so it was a relief to be able to relax in here without feeling like someone was breathing down your neck. And it was with the freedom that I broke the cardinal rule of gallery attendance: I took photos - gasp!

Contemporary Art in middle of suburbia Kansas. Hey, it works! In all seriousness, PB Galleries is an alright spot to see some great pieces by national artists. Now here's where it gets dicey.I'm at odds about the feelings I got from the place though. Pretty awkward and certainly had a tinge of "frame shop" as another reviewer so cleverly pointed out. I never felt I was in a gallery really. It was more like a place that housed art for framing. Here I was getting a "sales pitch" on the place having great, national artists without ever talking about any of the artists or maybe even the work itself. The owner of the gallery came over and we chatted. The "forced and faked" convo ensued and I was left with the heebie-jeebies. I enjoyed some of the art in the shop, just not the shop. What to do? Why look those artists up online perhaps for a purchase, of course. God Bless cyberspace, ebay, and the "shopping cart" checkout system.

This review is for their framing servicies-these folks have been great. We have spent more money than I care to remember here, but their work, to include some restoration, has been spot on!I can see how other reviewers felt about the vibe, and as I was only coming in to have some art we purchased overseas and directly from artists, I did not notice. (as I was looking for some framing)

I have truly mixed feelings about Prairiebrooke. I actually have a lot of original artwork around my house that I purchased there, including a commissioned piece that was based on a painting I saw there that I loved. They're also in my neighborhood and I really love supporting local business. But I had an experience with the owner there that soured me a bit on their gallery. I went in with my hubby, who, at the time, was not exactly well-employed. He was working part-time while going to school. The owner greeted us and almost immediately asked my hubby what he did for a living and he told him. It was clearly an attempt to size him up to see if he could afford to buy something. The owner never asked ME what I do for a living, but instead assumed we couldn't afford anything in the store because apparently we live in 1948 and no woman could possibly sustain a household with her career, much less make a decision to purchase art. It was odd to see him trying to maneuver away from us as quickly as possible while not being rude. It didn't work. It was not only rude, but insulting. He should let his staff work with customers because they never once insulted me when I had been there in the past, but he certainly did. Ever since that time, I have not felt compelled to buy art there. I often window shop the store, and sometimes I wander in, but only if they look too busy to approach me. So here's the thing: They really do have nice stuff there in a variety of styles. They do a good job at framing as well. They have a lot of stuff available that is not on their walls...just ask to see it. But do keep in mind that if the owner is there, you could be subjected to sexist insulting behavior. If you can get past that, it's a great place to find artwork that you will love forever.

I have only shopped, and made purchases in the Prairiebrooke Gallery located on Santa Fe Drive. I have always found the staff helpful and friendly. I have bought 4 different paintings there, and had these pieces framed there, as well. I love the variety of artwork they have. And I like the fact that their inventory is ever-changing. I am proud of the pieces I have purchased there. Beautiful!

My husband and I worked with Jen Cheek and we had a wonderful experience. This is the first real art we've purchased and Jen did a fantastic job of guiding us through the process. She really listened to us when we expressed our interests and ideas. She shared a variety of suggestions with us and she even made a few house calls to help us with size and coordination. We purchased two pieces from the gallery and we had a third piece commissioned. They framed our new art and delivered and hung each piece for us. We are very pleased with our purchase and our experience with Jen and Prairiebrooke. Maureen and Mike McDonnell

I had a horrible experience the first time I visited Prairiebrooke gallery but decided to give it a second chance. The first time I was met by the owner who was extremely cold. I am a serious art collector and don't usually let bad salespeople get in my way when I'm looking for a new piece. I wanted to see everything in the gallery b/4 leaving but she was around every corner I turned with her forced fake sales pitch. I had to leave. I went back the second time determined to see the whole gallery and I was successful. I was followed around this time by her husband (equally strained conversation). I found a piece and decided to purchase it and be on my way. He put the art on the counter and then she appeared again. I was told I would not be allowed to buy the art unless I framed it at their gallery. I was puzzled to say the least. I explained to them that I have a framer who I have been bringing all my art to for the last 15 years, who knows what I like, and above all who I trust!! They told me that they don't allow any art to be purchased unless they frame it, in order to avoid compromising the integrity of the art???????? What??? I even told them who my framer was because he is a well respected local businessman who does beautiful museum quality conservation framing. To make a long story short, I did not buy the art, and they lost a 2,500.00 sale for what would have amounted to about 600.00 in framing. Not good business!!!
