Pollos El Junior

Had an excellent lunch delivered today from Pollos El Junior. I had the Medio Pollo Ranchero. The chicken was tender and cooked so it falls off the bone. Nice seasoning and served with soft tortillas and beans and rice. I was definitely full after this. If you're craving some chicken this is a great dish. The green sauce was just the right flavor to go with chicken. Delivery via DoorDash was fast and accurate. Give it a try.

This is our go-to chicken about 2-3 times a month. It's flavorful and juicy. There are 4 levels of flavor & spiciness- we go for the "Ranchero" for our kids, but I'm sure others are delicious! On Wednesday the owner has a special -- be sure to stop in! Decent portions and small sides to accompany main course. Comfortable seating options and pre-packaged dessert empanadas to try ($$). If you're into spicy, buy the "macha" salsa-- addictive! Also tried the "ranchero" ribs- they were a tiny bit dry but had great seasoning.

I was sad to see my favorite birria shop go out of business in this location last year and I am even more sad that I waited so long to check out it's replacement - Pollos El Junior. this is the third Mexican style BBQ chicken joint that I know of in the metro and it clearly blows the other two away. PEJ's product is front and center when approaching the counter. The giant rotisserie with open flame can handle a couple dozen whole chickens at a time and it provides a succulent and mesmerizing marketing tool. We ordered a 1/2 chicken and had it doused with a flavorful chipotle sauce; a gritty kick that complimented the smoky and tender chicken. Served with tortillas, charros, rice and 2 sauces - a jalapeno/cilantro and a sweet heat pineapple pepper sauce. The pineapple sauce should be sold by the quart for take-out! We also added 2 large pork rib bones for $7. We chose not to sauce them and enjoyed them with the side dipping sauces. Very good, but when you have so many amazing rib shacks in this BBQ city, it's hard to make the top tier. Excellent customer service from the counter and speaking with the owner at the table next to us while taking a lunch break with his baby. Another 5 star authentic experience for KCK.

So I stumbled on this spot after driving to El Pollo Rey and finding it closed. I took a chance on a smaller, little known gem and I'm so glad I did! The chicken is moist, tender, and magnificently seasoned. The skin isn't very crispy because it's more smoked than grilled. But the star of the show? THE RIBS. Dios Mio! Listen, I ate the ribs with no sauce and barely chewed... they were tender, seasoned, caramelized and smoked to perfection. The sauce that comes with is unlike any bbq I've ever tasted. (I actually put it on my chicken, though because the other sauce was a little spicy for me.) The owner welcomed me in on this hot 4th of July--he was warm, friendly and proud of his skills. And sir, you should be! Your ribs are FYAH!Ya'll can bring these ribs to your cookout and people will want to know whose uncle was on the pit... yes, that good. :) You can buy the ribs by the pound and a whole or 1/2 chicken. I'm not really a sides girl, but the rice, beans, sauce and tortillas that come with your meal are tasty, too. I could feel the love in every bite. I live in Lees Summit, but I'll make the drive back there any day!

A very simple, mom and pop type of place, but man, that is some tasty chicken!! The seasoning is out of this world! Can't recommend this place enough. Support local businesses! Will definitely go back.
