What a strange and secluded little joint Peter May's House of Kielbasa is! I have had it bookmarked on my Yelp page for a few years, but every time I'm near there, I usually end up at a taco shop and it doesn't help that Peter May's is closed on the weekends. Today, during a vacation week, I finally ventured in. The building is in the middle of houses on a residential street 2 blocks off of Truman Road. It is the epitome of what old school neighborhood markets once were. Since President Hoover's administration (1929) they have been pumping out traditional eastern European style meats; especially their name sake the kielbasa. After being given a small sample, I took home a large link of it that weighed slightly over a pound for less than $10. I have made a sandwich, snacked and there is still enough for 3 or more sandwiches - an economic windfall. The sausage is also perfectly smoked and deliciously savory. I have had no after -effect - heartburn like I often do with Polish sausages. You can buy meat to go or order a sandwich. The place could use some sprucing up; I don't think that they have renovated since the great depression, but I love that such a niche market can hang on in such a weird location for 90+ years - that speaks highly for their product.

Love the fact that this is a family owned business and the sausages that I've purchased have always been the best I've ever tasted. Looking forward to my next visit there. Might even happen this week or weekend.

I'm a born and raised Kansas Citian and have not heard of this spot. I recently have seen an article on it, so I decided to check it out. It's literally located in a neighborhood with homes so you may miss it. As I entered, I was welcomed right away and felt like home. The gentleman was very kind and professional. I asked him what he recommends and he said the polish sandwich. The service was extremely quick. The atmosphere was very cozy but also small. It has a clerk in which you can also purchase drinks and snacks. The decor was quite nice with street and other signs scattered on the ceiling. The sandwich was good, but not over the top. It's a simple polish sandwich on a bun with mustard, pickles, and onions. It was flavorful. I mean for the price you're paying, you can't complain. My little Coca-Cola and sandwich cost below $5.

The kind of neighborhood ethnic joint that's a dying breed. Thankful May's is very much alive. My wife (Polish heritage) is from Jersey and has been consistently disappointed with kielbasa in this neck of the woods. When we found Peter May's it was a hallelujah moment. Hey, and you can pick up good (Strawberry Hill) povitica here, too.

The kielbasa my husband just picked up was amazing, as usual. Have had the privilege of enjoying these sausages since I was a young child. I was so sad when it closed, and super excited when it was reopened. They also now seem to have sauerkraut and pierogi!

I am from Michigan and found it hard to fine good Kielbasa in Kansas City, once I found Peter May's, needed to look no further. This kielbasa is requested and required when I head back home to Michigan! Pick up some Kielbasa and also the Jalapeño Cheddar CheeseKielbasa to snack on. Thanks Mike and staff for making my life in KC complete. I was lucky enough to met Mrs. Kielbasa (Mrs. L.) as I left with my stuff, thanked her also. Make sure you grab a polish sandwich, the best, Peter May's needs to be on the Best of Kansas City every year!

The fresh kielbasa is truly some of the best I've ever had. Perfect consistency and awesome seasoning. My first time there but definitely not my last! Raised in Wisconsin in a Polish family we had fresh kielbasa often and this rates at the top of any served in my 73 years.

Been going here for years. A true gem. The way things used to be. Kielbasa is unbelievably good, perfectly spiced and smoked. Mike also makes great burgers with all the fixings. Love this place.
