More expensive on most rentals and cleaning supplies. They always seem out of the commonly needed items too often- for commons items we need for our Alto Sax, viola, cello, english horn, french horn, and guitars... We used to take lessons when they were in their older building and had to go elsewhere because my son and everything he brought into the building would leave STINKING of cleaner fumes- it was overwhelming !Also, they really need to do a better job supporting the local school as they NEVER give support to or sponsor anything- they need to actually compete with Meyer already! It is sad that they are willing to take money from the students and families but never seem willing to give back to the very community that the business exists in.

I have been taking lessons her for 4-5 years. The people there are great and very helpful. For example we needed a new book for school orchestra and they ordered some for us. If you are renting an instrument and have it for long enough you pay it off it is your instrument. This really helped me pay for my 4/4 violin when I could take a few hundred dollars by selling my 3/4 one.

Really good environment for the growing musician. I've been going to Palen ever since they were first located on the northwest corner of Liberty Square, and this new location is a major improvement. The staff is all very friendly and very willing to let you demo instruments. Emmett is the best; he always helps me out a lot without ever pushing me to buy anything. Lessons and instruction are always going on, so it's a nice vibe within the store, and the instruments are all priced very well. What would be a $200 ukulele is $99 at Palen. Anyone looking for a nice instrument or lessons should come in a visit.

My daughter has been taking lessons with Dr. Tom for about 8 months, and I couldn't be more happy with the knowledge and service this place provides. It's a small place, but they have a large enough assortment of various musical instruments and accessories that we always seem to find what we want. And if they don't have what we want, they will order it for us. If you live in the Liberty area I definitely recommend going to them for lessons or any instrument purchases you may need. I've purchased 3 instruments from them and have always been happy with the service.

My son is in the beginning stages of guitar lessons and I'm a firm believer that you get out of an experience as much as you put into it. So a year or so into his lessons he's still not able to play Kashmir - can't really blame that on his instructor. I have sat in on a lesson and it was an example of patience that I could aspire to and real guitar skills, so we're hanging in there.

I always support my local music store. Palen music has consistantly been rude and quite smug. I am never greeted, never thanked, I always just get the get out of here vibe. So if any other local place had guitar strings I would never venture into Palen again. What are you so unhappy about Palen music?

Dropped off a guitar for my grandson to be re-stringed right before the holidays. It took longer than they expected, so they called me when it was done and said there would be no charge because of the delay. They didn't have to do that, but it was much appreciated! Shows their good customer relations. Thank you!
