This food truck really lives up to all the hype. I only found out about it from a co-worker. Went out to the Northland Kansas City, MO location today and there was even a line before the truck opened. I would say this is the best fish and chips I ever had. The batter was thin and crispy that makes you feel like you are biting into a cloud. The fried batter has just the right amount of consistency to it, not too heavy or too greasy and not too light, it is just right. The fish tastes very fresh and makes you feel like you are at a remote sea-side fish shack in the Pacific Northwest. The portions are surprisingly huge for each fish piece, one order of 3-pieces will easily make most people feel full. The fries are just so-so, but the fish is where it is at. I looked into a lot of other reviews on Yelp and Google, and with some of the negative comments about the tipping and slow wait times are true to an extent. With the tipping, they do ask you politely to contribute after you pay, by providing a choice 15%/25% on the screen, but if you don't want to tip, you can easily click on Custom Tip and add 0, so there is a quick way out of it as well if you look closely to the options. With the long wait times, they cook everything at the time of the order, so only about 3-4 boxes can be fried up at a time. I was part of the first batch when they opened and it did take about 10-15 minutes. So if you come in later behind a line, expect to easily wait more than 30 minutes. They don't post a menu with prices on their website, but today's prices were: fish and chips $15, fish only $13, extra fish piece add-on $4. Overall, I would definitely return again, heck I even got a second order after I finished mine to eat later for dinner. Their locations are really random with no set pattern so you always have to watch for the calendar.

The fish was just okay. The fries were delicious. I might go back if they would take cash. I understand they are busy with cooking. They only take cards for payment and mine didn't work. Kudos to the two guys working on Saturday, September 7. They were real sweethearts and doing a great job.

Went to On the Hook Fish and Chips yesterday. I had high hopes but was very disappointed. The fish was okay at best, pieces were small and batter was chewy from being put in a cardboard box and the steam ruined the crispy crust. They should have been wrapped in paper, the classic way to serve them. Fries were great, but the cole slaw was a total rip off. Just shredded cabbage with a very small amount of odd, sweet, non-mayo dressing - terrible. I will never go back. If you want really good fish and chips like you get in the UK, go to the Captian's Corner in Paradise, MO, by Smithville Lake. All of their food is outstanding.

I was not impressed by the food truck. The fish was just thin pieces and was not worth the price. Fries weren't anything special either. I recommend saving your money.

When I saw this food truck on Facebook I really wanted to try it because I love fish and chips. I missed going to it the first time it was local, but I saw that it was a little bit further and had to try it. There was quite a long line when I arrived. I ordered a three piece fish and chips and OMG it was the best I've ever had and I lived in San Diego for 25 years and tried many different places. The batter on the fish was crunchy and the fish was super tender. The fries were also excellent. Yummy yummy yummy!!! Looks like this food truck travels to many places. I am hoping they will be back because I will definitely be there to pick up more of the deliciousness

I tried the fish and fry combo. The portions were large and the fish was cooked perfectly. Enjoyed that crunchy batter with fish still being tender and flaky! Im a malt vinegar girl but did enjoy the spicy sauce as well. Would have been 5 stars if the fish itself would have had more flavor.

I don't know where to even begin with this disaster of an experience. My friends and I encountered one of their food trucks on K-10 highway, and let me just say -- it was an absolute nightmare. Not only was the weather terrible (rain, wind, you name it), but we were just trying to make our way through the bad conditions, when this food truck decided to make our lives worse. This truck kept trying to pass us, even though it was unsafe, and they couldn't care less about the conditions or the fact that we were just trying to drive cautiously. After a few attempts to pass, they finally succeeded -- and then, as if it wasn't enough, they FLIPPED US OFF. I repeat: they FLIPPED US OFF. Not only is this incredibly unprofessional, but it's downright dangerous and rude.Who even does that? A food truck -- serving food, mind you -- actively putting drivers at risk and then showing us the middle finger? I don't care how good your fish and chips are; I'll NEVER be eating at "On the Hook" again. They clearly don't know how to drive, treat customers with any respect, or handle basic human decency.Avoid this place at all costs unless you enjoy being treated like crap on the road. Shame on them!

Olathe KS location on May 6th 2024I was extremely disappointed when I opened my box to find 3 very thin and small pieces of fish and not even a good amount of chips. the fish had more batter on them than actual fish. I remember when the business first started the portions were a lot better. Way too expensive for such sad portions, needless to say I do not recommend it at all and I will be spending my money elsewhere for a good portion of seafood.

We discovered on the hook during COVID. The fish was excellent, and we felt a fair value. The last 3 times we have gone I have been disappointed the fish is heavily battered, overcooked and rubbery they cut it into very thin slices and all you can taste is batter, and the batter is not good. The mandatory tip is insulting, the price has gone up and the quality has gone down, why would I pay more? They have added more product that I didn't order due to I had already paid $40, for 2 meals. They need to get back to the quality and value they had in the beginning.
