National Golf Club

The National is a beautifully maintained and quite challenging golf course. I'm not going to speak so much to the golf experience but more to the overall experience of being a member of the National. First off, food service. The menu selection is good and food generally very tasty. Service is sometimes a bit slow, probably because of the distance from the kitchen to the eating areas. The whole arrangement doesn't seem conducive to efficient restaurant management. This week we brought guests to eat and waited forever to even be seated. Not sure what that was about as there was almost no one in the dining area. Beyond food service, the National does a great job of offering many activities and events that cover a range of family/couple and individual tastes - everything from breakfast with Santa, to formal dinners and dance. The pool is busy throughout summer months, with regular special times for adults only, women's nights, movie by the pool nights and, to close the swimming season, a day for dogs only. Staff throughout the club are friendly, professional, and helpful.

The National is the real deal! I've been fortunate to golf here several times a year for the last decade and it never disappoints... Tom Watson designed the course and he has made public statements that The National is the course he is most proud to have designed.There are only a handful of truly thriving golf clubs left in the KC Metro area and the National is top of the heap... If someone needs to ask how much it costs to become a member, this is probably not the right place for them...The clubhouse and surrounding areas are beautiful and every detail is well-designed and maintained... The course is a real challenge, it is long with plenty of trouble and blind-shots due to the rolling hills. The signature hole is #9 with a tee box perched on a cliff over 100 feet above the fairway... The right side of the fairway is guarded by a lake so be sure to hit it straight!

I've had the pleasure of golfing here a few times. While definitely on the high side of a round of golf, the course is fantastic and the grounds are in excellent shape. Both weekends we played here they had a beverage cart running which was handy. The staff is helpful and super nice.

Excellent golf course. Fairways and greens in great shape. Very fast greens made it challenging. Great layout and scenery playing up and down the fairway lined with trees. Negative is losing a lot of balls but they provided 6 balls with club rentals.
