People, Moxie catering is ever-y-thing! Outstanding service, attentive to detail, and epic food. Jill, Anna, Chris and team were simply amazing. They made our wedding day so incredibly special, and as an event planner, it felt so incredibly good to know we had this type of partner in executing our big day. I didn't have to lift a finger on the day of, nor was my glass ever empty. Plus, they go above and beyond on the service they provide. It's the little things that make your life easier in events and they get it, completely. If you're considering other caterers, don't. Just call Jill. You'll be glad you did.

This catering service was suppose to cater a charity event on 10/14/17 and double booked themselves. They were unapologetic and could not accommodate the event. Very, very unprofessional. I'm sure the food is great, but hard to tell when they don't care to show up at one of the events they were paid to cater.

I had Moxie catering cater my wedding last week (10/18). I will tell you that for me, and my husband the most important part about planning any party is the food, so when it came to catering my wedding, I had no idea where to start. We had visited their restaurant, and was in love with the food. We called Jill, and she met with us and it was like she read our minds with the menu and suggested tons of "out-of-the-box" ideas. We then did our tasting where again, was blown away by not only the options she offered us, but also the quality. This is not the ordinary "Wedding Food" it's much much more and all of our wedding guests mentioned that to us at the reception. The quality of the food and service (all of the staff asked me several times if i wanted food or beverage brought to me as it's difficult to get in eating anything as a bride). When you are at a wedding tasting you expect that the actual wedding would be less quality, because of the quantity of people, but this is not the case, this was mine and I'd say a majority of our guests favorite part of the reception. T'm VERY confident that Jill, will help anyone organize and provide quality food and service. Top Notch Catering. :) Thanks again!

We had Moxie cater our wedding a month ago and it was a great experience. The wedding was about 200 people and Moxie did a cheese table, appetizers, a seated salad, and a full dinner buffet. They also handled some of the various glassware needs we had.To address the complaints about their responsiveness, I didn't have issues communicating at all with them (I worked with Jill). Sometimes an email would have a turn around of a day or two, but those communications were not urgent and I was very comfortable that if I felt I needed a response quickly I could pick up the phone and call. The food was outstanding, which I feel other reviewers here have expressed appropriately. What really stood out to me was their level of experience and willingness to help "fill in the cracks" with the wedding planning. They knew and had experience with the other vendors I was using and so could just take care of things without me needing to be directly involved (as a working bride, that was huge). Jill also helped me make sure things weren't missed, for example, linen orders, and just generally made me feel more comfortable that everything was going to go smoothly. On the day of the wedding, everything seemed to just magically happen, though I know a lot of that was due to Moxie.I've actually had several comments after the wedding that everything seemed super "organized" and perfectly planned, which I found almost laughable as I really had no idea what I was doing and kind of let things run wild. Wedding planning was kind of amateur-hour in my case, but Moxie made me look like a pro. So, if you love great food, Moxie is a great choice. But more importantly, if you're anything like me and planning a large event is totally outside of your experience base, Moxie is the best choice!

Whenever I need catering I always ask Moxie. They are just the kind of people I like to be around. A love for good food and a nice staff. Their spreads always disappear, we never have leftovers which says a lot. Thank you moxie for being such good people to your community.

We TRIED to work with Moxie but after exactly 1 year from the first day we contacted them, they were booked by someone else for the same day as us before we locked them down. Now, this might seem like a case of "you snooze you lose" but we were not the ones holding up the process. We first reached out and were told to contact them a few months down the road. Did that and we met (a meeting they pretty much forgot about until we called them while waiting outside 15 minutes) with them to discuss our thoughts on food and they were then going to put together a preliminary menu for us. We talked about how we wanted "comfort" food with a bit of a twist to dress it up. After several weeks of them not getting us a menu, we finally got one that had nothing to do with the ideas we had talked about. It was all VERY fancy and refined and just not us or what we asked for. We gave them some tweaks and suggestions and asked for them to take another stab at it. They agreed, "no problem" and went to put together another menu. Again, weeks passed (note we were told to wait a week for something back each time they were doing menus) and nothing. We called and we agreed to sit down for another meeting and they'd have a menu then. The day before the meeting, i email them to verify we are still on, as I'd not heard back from them, and I get a response that someone else had booked us for the day. That email came 1 year to the day we first emailed them. What the hell?! It was rather frustrating that we were repeatedly pushed back and then someone else books them. If they were hoping a bigger or better job was going to come along, have the decency to just tell us that from the get go, I honestly wouldn't have had a problem with that. Getting strung along and wasting my time? That pissed me off. In the end we got amazing food from Fritz's that was perfect for us and we couldn't be happier. I think it worked out for the best that we didn't get the chance to hire them. i just wish it hadn't wasted so much of our time.

This place come very highly recommended to me. However, since their website has very minimal information I politely emailed them twice, a few weeks apart, for some more pricing information and to set up a tasting, but unfortunately still have not heard from them. Not sure if they have communication problems but it's sad to say, I had to mark this one off the list...

I'd like to preface my review with the fact that we did meet with Jill and found her to be a lovely person. Lack of good communication is really where we fell through with Moxie though. The other reviews on this page (positive and negative) reflect our experience overall fairly accurately. We really like the food at Voltaire but we just didn't mesh on the other aspects of planning. We wanted to book Moxie for our wedding next year. I originally contacted Jill in March to ask for some sample menus or an idea of how they typically like to cater a wedding as their website was not very detailed. I got a response three weeks later that they'd be happy to send over a sample menu to get a feel for their style and meet with us about our plans. We did get a sample menu when we met with Jill in May. She also had some good ideas for personalizing the menu and making it very "us." But everything up to and after this point seemed to take weeks longer than Jill told us it would. When we got our proposed menu, I also felt like they had gotten us confused with another couple because so many of the things we discussed were not included on the menu. Something we specifically said we did not want was a carving station but unfortunately this (and the rate for two assistant chefs to run it) ended up on the proposed menu. As well as a tasting table that we definitely didn't want in addition to four passed appetizers for our cocktail hour. After coming up with a detailed list of things we wanted to see changed on a revised menu, Jill thought we were headed in a good direction and they would send over the revised proposal with these changes. I then found out in late June that we were going to be moving out of KC by the end of July so I could start medical school. I informed Jill of this right away, told her we were still going to have the wedding in KC but really needed to step on the gas with finishing the menu proposal since we'd be leaving town. Three weeks later and only two weeks before we are scheduled to move, I still had not received an updated menu. We started looking for a new caterer so we could be able to scope out possible alternatives prior to leaving KC. I respect that summer is wedding season and they have to be super busy right now, so an event I want to plan for a year away isn't a HUGE priority. But we ultimately decided to pull the plug on the operation because planning a wedding from significantly far away is going to require good communication and I just don't feel like we got that from Moxie. It's possible that I jumped the gun on this and everything would have worked out but stress about communication with the caterer is completely unnecessary in my opinion. So we had to go with someone who I felt more comfortable working with from afar. Why two stars?Communication/planning effort receives one star. Food (based on our experience at Voltaire) receives four stars. So technically, my rating is 2.5 stars.

Their menu was outstanding! Very unusual food and yummy. I used them for a party of about 45 at a private house and everything went very smoothly. I mostly communicated via email. The menu below was excellent except for the tortilla espanola which had way too many potatoes and the Fresh Figs were really too big to pop in your mouth and were messy to eat. I never got my receipt or the business cards I asked for in the mail after my event. (I paid over the phone with a credit card but they would have taken a check on the day of the event) I thinks its a case of an excellent chef, not so great a businessman. Here was the menu:passedEnsalada Mariscos "Ceviche" of Bay Scallop and Shrimp with Roasted Red Pepper, Kalamata Olive and Italian Lemon on Crostini with RouilleShots of Ancho-Roasted Acorn Squash Bisque with Sage Oil and Almond DustsetArtisanal Cheese Carving Station with Fresh, Seasonal Fruit and Roasted, Spiced NutsCharcuterie (Cured Meats, Country Pate, Brineables, Citrus-Herb Roasted Olives/Garlic/Peppers, Tapenade, Pestos, Mustard, etc.)Lump Crab-Mascarpone Torte with Tarragon, Shallot, Lemon, and Caper-Duo of Dips- Roasted Eggplant-Smoked Paprika Puree and Ginger-Edamame Hummus with Housemade Seedy Crackers and Olive Oil Toasted Flat BreadMixed Crackers and Breadsticks Grilled Vegetable "Crudite"with Bagna CaudaTortilla Espanola with Harissa Ailoi and ChivesFresh Figs, Stuffed with Pink Peppercorn-Goat Cheese wrapped with Applewood Smoked Bacon and Dirzzled with local Clover HoneyPecan Wood Grilled "Vintage" Tri-Tip Beef on Housemade Herbed Focaccia with Baby Arugula and Roasted Garlic-Maytag Blue finished with a Red Onion MarmaladeTriple Chocolate-Espresso Brownies

I used Moxie for a charity event and then contacted them about catering our wedding. When I politely told them we decided on a different caterer and why, they became unprofessional, hateful and rude. I was stunned at the reaction I received and the nerve of any business to speak to a past client and (then) potential repeat customer that way. Some of the other issues I experienced when working with them were slow response times, poor follow up, late arrival, and they never thanked me for the business or asked if I was happy. To me, customer service is just as important as the food.
