Mahi's Ethiopian Kitchen

We have tried this restaurant a couple times now, and it has been consistently amazing. The service has been great as well. - Ethiopian sample platter (5/5): We were able to try several offerings, and everything is so good and so flavorful. My favorite was the tender beef stew. Love the variety. We will definitely be back!

Hidden in a small alley in downtown Columbia sits the best Ethiopian food I've ever tasted. I've tried Ethiopian in California, St. Louis, and Texas and always loved the flavors. Mahi's somehow topped them all. I can't recommend this place enough.

I had never had Ethiopian food before, so I was not sure what to expect. It was amazing! My partner and I shared the sample platter that serves 2. It came with a variety of different meat and non-meat options and they were all delicious. It comes on top of a fermented flatbread that you can use to pick up and eat the dishes. The prices were quite reasonable. We will for sure be back.

this one is definitely a hole in the wall! walked past it while looking for it, but it's behind a wall in the Alley A. look for suites 906 and 907 (kampai alley), there isn't a sign sticking out. despite the scavenger hunt, it was absolutely worth going here. went at 6:30 on a thursday night and there was only the cook and one host/waiter, but still everything came out fresh and fast. the waiter was a nice young lad and the ambiance of the place was very nice as well; casual and not super loud.for the food: oh my goodness. i hadn't had ethiopian in around 5 years and this spot absolutely hit what was missing. my mom got the vegetarian sample platter with yemisir wot (red lentils), atakilt wot (cabbage), eggplant alicha, kik alicha (split chickpeas), and gomen wot (kale). my favorites were the goro wot (chicken), atakilt wot, and the yemisir wot, the dinich alicha (potatoes) mixed very well with all the other stews as well. the goro wot was incredibly flavorful and tender and again paired well with other dishes. if you gave me 20 minutes and a pound of injera and goro wot, i could probably finish it all. then again, i was stuffed after 10 minutes and was sad i couldn't eat more. my mom keeps excitedly raving that her stomach doesn't hurt, which it usually does after she eats out. overall, i would make the 6 hour drive to come down here again.

We have tried Ethiopian food in St. Louis multiple times and after eating at Mahi's, St. Louis doesn't compare!!! So much flavor and so delicious! If you have never tried Ethiopian before, she has a sampler platter as well :) cannot recommend enough!

The food is incredibly delicious and the service is as good as it gets. So happy they opened up in Columbia. And they're open on Sundays! You can smell the deliciousness down the block.
