View from the dam road... It's a nice dam view, indeed...

I've loved this place since my very first visit as a college freshman, when my roommate and a couple of our friends ditched our afternoon classes to go swimming off the docks... Although I have a lot of nostalgia for that time in my life, I love Lone Star for many other reasons. It's a great place to just quietly enjoy nature and get out of town. Typically, the only other company you'll find are the shorebirds and waterfowl that occupy and migrate through the area, some turtles sunning themselves, a few frogs singing their choruses and an occasional sunfish jumping out to catch a waterbug. When the weather is warm and sunny, you'll probably find a few fishermen casting their lines and some college kids sunbathing and splashing around the swimming dock as well.At night you can watch the stars as the various creatures sing their melodies...Even the drive out is lovely with winding country roads, Civil War-era farmhouses, red barns and country churches flanked by fields of wheat, corn and milo. Cows graze in the lush pastures and small handwritten signs at gravel driveways advertise fresh eggs and honey for sale... Do watch out for the sharp turns, lest you enact the events in the old sock-hop do-wop son "Deadman's Curve"...And bring a sketchbook, drawing tools and your camera with you in case you get inspired to keep the moment alive until your next visit...

A great place to kayak. The coves are perfect when it's too windy to be out on the main lake, but when it's not windy the main lake is so nice. Love to look around the shore area while paddling. I've even spotted a bald eagle while kayaking.

This is a very nice spot and the fishing is pretty good. Has a decent swimming area. Camping spots are close to water.
