We went to see Many Patinkin on April 1st. He was fantastic! We enjoyed the Lied Center very much. It's a nice facility. The ushers were great. Very helpful and diligent about getting rude people to turn off their bright cell phones and watches. I loved that. The major shortcoming is that they desperately need someone directing traffic at the west exit after the show. It took far too long. People weren't bright enough to use both lanes going out of the lot, so it was very time consuming. This must be improved.

It was my first time at the Lied Center. It's a great venue for live performances. I drove 45 minutes just to go see a performance. Lots of parking. Easy to find. Three levels of seating. I prefer the balcony or second level. It would be nice if they would also project the performances onto a large screen to the side for those that may not have good seats. Another suggestion, upgrade their concession area.

Again with the five stars. What is wrong with me?? I just sincerely LOVE the Lied Center. They get quality acts, Broadway shows, world famous musicians and dancers. Everything I have seen there has been fabulous. The Lied shows are also very affordable. The prices are not outrageous which I appreciate. Parking is easy and you never have far to walk. You also don't have to pay for parking which is worth one star alone! It never takes a long time to get out of the parking lot after a performance, either. The venue is nice and comfortable. There is not a bad seat in the Lied. Seats are comfy and there is plenty of room. Ushers are super helpful and friendly, too. If there has to be a downside, the concessions are on the small scale but who cares when you are at the Lied!!A show at the Lied guarantees you will have a fabulous night. It will be one you will remember forever.

As a new transplant to Lawrence, I have been looking for the best place to see live theater in the area. Someone suggested the Lied Center to me for a recent Broadway musical so I picked up some tickets.First the good. There is plenty of free parking around the venue. Get there a little early or you may be way out in the furthest rows like I was . .but no place is really far. Also- I like that they suggest going north or east to exit since the main exit is to the west to save you some time. Our seats were smack dab in the center of the balcony so the sight lines were great! And the ushers that work in the center are very helpful. Now for the bad. The temperature in this place was out of control! It was so hot in the balcony, at some point I thought I was going to have to leave the theater. And if I had taken any more of my clothing off, the show would have moved from the stage to the balcony!! And what is the deal with a small, 3 stall bathroom to service the balcony? We raced to the bathroom at the intermission but the line still snaked down the hall and they were blinking the lights just at the time I got to the front of the line. There wasn't any time to even try to get some water which was desperately needed in that over heated balcony. All in all, the acoustics were okay, you could see very well and parking was easy. I'm just not sure I would take in another show there unless I was on the main floor. I can only guess that it might be better down there!

I have enjoyed every performance and event I have attended at the Lied Center. I have seen Kristin Chenowith perform here as well as Adam DeVine do standup. Steve Wozniak stopped by and had a conversation with students, too. Some of the events have been more sentimental like could convocation at the beginning of my freshman year at KU, or my graduation from the Honors Program and CLAS awards ceremony. The event space accommodated both events amazingly. I don't think there is a bad seat in the house! So glad we have a place like this in Lawrence to see musicals, ballets and other touring shows.

I attended the Lied Center for the Ira Glass NPR Event and I was very surprised. The venue is smaller so it is hard to not have a good seat for visibility and hearing. I went in thinking that the event would be more educational but Ira Glass was perfect at incorporating laughter and serious thinking with his event of Seven Things I've Learned. I would be happy if Lied Center contracted more events NPR related. Not only was the attendance high for the event but I think it would be great to offer this type of events for students.

The Lied center is now 23 years old, but the appearance and upkeep make it seem like it just opened yesterday. Impressive inside and out. The acoustics and the sight lines are great. A much better place to see a performance than Liberty Hall. Free parking also!

True story: Lawrence, KS is my hometown, but until recently, I had never been in the Lied Center. It was built in 1993, a few years after I moved down K-10 to the big city, and I just never felt compelled to go until we saw that Quixotic would be performing there on my hubby's 40th birthday. Since my hubby isn't one for big parties, it seemed like a perfect opportunity to do something he would really enjoy on his special day.At the hubby's request, I booked tickets in the balcony as he thought it might be a really cool angle from which to see the aerial portion of the act, but balcony seating here just isn't great. We were on the first tier, stage right, and it was not possible to take in the entire stage, which is really pretty important for a Quixotic show. Also, the seats in the balcony were angled, which was helpful, but they weren't angled quite enough, so that in order to see the stage, you were still having to crane your neck a bit. Not the end of the world, but a minor annoyance. When we arrived, the ushers sent us on a brief wild goose chase for our seats. We were told we were in the first row which isn't what we booked. They finally got it sorted out and showed us where we belonged. They were very friendly and tried to be helpful, so that's a plus. The Lied Center is very well maintained. I was impressed with the quality of the facility overall. The stage here is very small, which isn't great for a show like those that Quixotic puts on as it's clearly somewhat limiting in terms of their ability to do multiple aerial acts at once and the amount of floor space they have for dance. We have been long-time fans of Quixotic, yet this was the least favorite show we've seen of theirs, but still quite spectacular.I wouldn't hesitate to return to the Lied Center for another kind of show. It seems like it would be better suited for musical acts and I would love to visit again, but will avoid the balcony moving forward.
