What a lovely place! I recently took a bead making class here and it was thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. It was difficult picking just one class because there were so many of them I wanted to take. Lawrence Arts Center has so much to offer all age groups. My class was a human hodge podge of ages and experience. The building is stunning. You are immediately taken in by the color collections and the great use of space and light of this building. Everywhere you look there is alluring and interesting artwork. Even the elevator interior is adorned with colorful sunflower art. This is a happy place, a very happy place. The classrooms are spacious and light. They have all sorts of cool equipment for the students to create their artwork. The instructors are all very knowledgeable and experienced in their craft. I was very impressed with the accommodations provided. There is ample parking and a parking garage is located across the street. There is no issue with access. All in all this is a terrific asset to the city. If you have some time on your hands and find yourself downtown, this is the place to be!

I'm not a particularly artistic person, but we stopped in here on our trip to Lawrence. I was very impressed with the building, sleek and clean. I was also impressed by the sheer number of programs they boast here from theater and singing, metal working, pressing, painting, sculpture, etc. Many of these can be seen on display in the galleries about the building. They also have early school and learning centers attached. It makes for a very cool place for the arts crowd to gather.

A pillar. I mainstay. This place has it going on, so much over other arts centers in many towns I've lived in. Yes, they have art on display, but so much more. Community theater, classes, pre-K school, events, artist residencies, dance classes. It's more like "what don't they do?" I cannot imagine the entire totality of the wealth of culture and community the Arts center brings. I cannot imagine the community without the connections we've found here. I genuinely admire this place, and all they do.

My experience with the Lawrence Arts Center dates back to well before the facility broke ground. As I head there for a performance this evening (lifetime musician) I'm reminded how lucky we are to have not only the spectacular building they've built but also able administrators and a community willing to support and keep the center up and running at full tilt. With 30+ years of performing including extended stints in the Kansas Arts Commission touring program and Mid-America Arts Alliance I can tell you there are few communities in the midwest that can rival this organization. Kansas City has the Kaufman Center. The Lawrence Arts Center is our version of it and it's as grand in its own way for this much, much smaller community. From day and evening programs for tots to elders, a grand theater for everything from musical performances to plays, even a full facility to create and fire ceramics, the city of Lawrence and its citizens are very lucky to have this crown jewel in our city.

We went there today and some nice ceramic pieces were exhibited for purchase. Also; the young man at the reception desk and the woman who is probably the director were very friendly, and I had a great conversation with them.

Since its arrival, it's been an important part of community life. Exhibiting local artists of all ages, and carrying on community events quite often, this is one of those places that is a part of making Lawrence what it is, today.
