Latham Saloon

We eat several times a month, especially on Wednesdays. They have really amazing chicken fried steak!

Great food. Hamburgers are great. Be sure to ask for fried onions for your hamburger and barbecue sauce. On Saturday nights they feature steaks. This is a place where REAL cowboys go for food and refreshments. Ranch trucks loaded with saddles and cattle dogs will be parked out front. The place is nothing fancy but it is representative of real life in the Flint Hills of Kansas. Be sure to drive straight East of the Saloon on a gravel road to the Caney Breaks. It is a plateau where the land slopes east toward the Caney river basin. Also, go straight West a few miles to see one of the longest stone fences in Kansas along a black top road.

To reach the Latham Saloon I took the wondrous SE Stony Creek Road, off US Route 400. If you like off-the-beaten-path Americana, the Saloon meets the standard. (Latham's population is 100 +/-, so neither traffic nor parking is an issue.) Once inside the Saloon, I was warmly greeted, took a seat at the bar, and was promptly served. Though "good food" is based on personal preferences, I will say, for me, the August 8, 2024 hot three-meat special was well worth the journey from the "nearby" Beaumont Hotel. And the sunset ride back on SE Stony Creek Road was as delicious as the homemade apple pie I took back to the hotel.

If you want to experience great food in the heart of America, the stop at Latham Saloon is well worth the visit. We were road-tripping through SE KS and decided to stop in based off a recommendation from friends. My husband had the shrimp pasta primavera and 10yo had the chicken parmesan, both Friday night specials and both wonderful . I had the Philly cheesesteak which was so tender and delicious. This place only serves bottle & canned beer which lends to the family feel of the place. Don't come here if you expect fancy. The mixture of family, down home, neighborliness will bring us back again!

We had burgers for lunch, pretty good. Nothing spectacular but better than average burgers. The mens restroom had a big leak and the floor was wet.

Great food cooked to perfection and great atmosphere. Service is a bit slow but understandable due to the popularity. The wait is definitely worth it, and it's fun to watch the people. Kids of all ages are welcome and their menu offers something for everyone! It is best to call ahead and make reservations if you have a large party as they are always busy! I have absolutely nothing bad to say about Latham Saloon and give it 5 stars.
