I'm writing as a tourist who spent four days in the city and surrounding areas. I left with a positive feeling about the city. The downtown area is going thru gentrification. Enjoyed the renovated Union Station. The restaurant/bar named Pierpont's, located inside, offers great cocktails along with good food. It is best to make reservations at dinner time. The Plaza area is as upscale as any of the high end shopping areas in any major city. Enjoyed BBQ at Jack's Stacks at its restaurant in the Plaza shopping district. The WWI memorial and museum is impressive. It Is a great place to get a view of the downtown area. It is a unique museum for those who enjoy American History. As to upscale shopping, the Halls store located at the Crown Center is terrific. The store covers the entire 3rd floor of the Center. It is s high end store with lots of pricey boutiques. It reminds me of a Saks Fifth Avenue. Across the street is an outdoor plaza and a Lego Land activity center and store. I didn't go into the activity center but did visit the store. It was fun to see all the different building toys available for purchase. The residents seem to enjoy their professional sports teams and many wear caps and clothes showing their pride. Having noticed the fan interest, I left with the impression that the MLB Kansas City Royals is the fan favorite. Lots and lots of memorabilia, clothing and signage supporting the Royals baseball team. On that note, I visited the Negro Leagues museum located in the 18th and Vine district. It is a awesome museum dedicated to black baseball players. It is well worth seeing. If you don't care for baseball right across the hall is an American Jazz museum which is first class. You not only get to see the artists but you also get to listen to their music. Overall it was a fun experience and worth the time and expense. In nearby Independence, Missouri , is the Truman library. If you are a lover of American history, like me, this is a must see. The Truman's are buried in the courtyard just outside the museum building. It is a well-done museum with lots and lots of exhibits and viewing rooms to see films of Harry Truman and the period in which he lived. You will notbe sorry for taking the time to visit this very well put together museum.Overall, I was impressed with Kansas City and the surrounding area. It is a city I would enjoy returning to if the opportunity arises.
