An interesting mix of indoor and outdoor facilities. The ice quality here was good, but not great. They have a small proshop, snack bar and skate rental / sharpening. We were here for a youth hockey tournament, which was fun and we'll managed. The locker rooms are run down and too small, there also seemed to be a shortage of bathrooms and showers. It was a little crowded and the metal bleachers weren't really heated.Dress warm, but plan on having a great time if you are here for a tournament.

Giving them another star for the upgrade... they have added a very nice outdoor rink to the facility, which gives them two sheets for tourney scheduling, or to have a public skate & a league game at the same time, etc. Obviously, the outdoor pavilion won't be open all year, but it's a great addition for the busy winter tourney season. They've also put in some very nice seating on the patio area around the outdoor rink. I love the fire pit! There seems to be a better level of ice maintenance as well, the players don't seem to complain about poor surfacing as much. Of course, when a hockey player misses a shot, it's always because of a divot in the ice [eyeroll] so you have to tune out 90% of the complaints anyway. Note: The full name of the facility is Kansas City Ice Center; the big sign out by the entrance says KCIC. Don't let the name on Yelp confuse you.

The ice is not great here. Lots of bumps and gouges and some significant divots near the Zamboni doors where the puck gets stuck a lot. The hockey league could be managed better. The rec league feels like a few teams have some ringers who just skate coast-to-coast with the puck. I feel somewhat bad in giving such a poor review, but maybe this will challenge them to be better. I want this place to succeed because I want more ice rinks and hockey fans/players in Shawnee/Kansas City. I have never played at Line Creek or Pepsi Ice, but compared to other leagues/rinks I have played in this is on the bottom. I have not gone to any public skates or had my kids do lessons here so I cannot speak to those issues.

I would stick to their outdoor rink in the winter. From the A-Team looking zamboni which is screaming for death, to the bathrooms that Mr. Clean can't help this place is affectionately known as the "Lipstick Pig." While its a good place to stake in a pinch, I've jacked my knee up playing there and prefer to play on their indoor ice only when I have too. Their outdoor rink is great, assuming its nice and cold outside. Now, Dan - the rink manager is a great guy, full of enthusiasm and props to him for trying to make the place a much better rink to skate at. Its a tall task, but I think he can get it done.Gary - hates the Rangers, but knows more about hockey than most refs.Wes - Great guy, wish he would shave his beard and knows more about ice than Eskimos.I think their recent new hires will help make the place a better place to skate at, but its going to take a while before I really trust the place entirely.

Probably the closest ice rink to Manhattan. So happy to have found this place! Try their adult hockey drop ins at 12 on Fridays for good competition!

Okay let me start off by saying the service was great, but... the locker rooms are nasty they have mold everywhere and some don't even have roofs which is dangerous because if anything flies over the net behind the goal it could severely injure someone. If you are looking to play hockey here I would recommend rethinking or never going to the locker rooms they also trust kids from little to men's league to trust open outlets. If they could fix all of the locker rooms and they're nasty showers we could go somewhere but until then 1 Star it only should get 1 Star because of the people.

This place and the people who work there are great! The staff was super nice and helpful when we visited from 2 hours away and had forgotten our kids gloves. It's a long drive, but we enjoyed it so much that we plan to go there again for a birthday.
