Kansas City Firefighters Memorial and Fountain

A beautiful fountain in the "City of Fountains." This fountain is a memorial for fallen firefighters, and it has a relaxing, moving presence to it. It happens to be on one of my cycling routes, so I've seen it at all times of day. Right when the sun is coming up over the city, at night when it's often (always?) lit up, and everything in between. On select days I'll pop over to it just to circle around and take it in. I love that it's at a figurative doorstep leading into downtown KC, and from there the layers of the city keep unfolding. Head a little north and you'll be at the Liberty Memorial, then Union Station, then the Crossroads, downtown, and the City Market. It's also nice that it's along the busy 31st street near Broadway so you can catch it even whizzing by in traffic.In a city with a lot of beautiful fountains, this is another notch in the belt, and a good one to take in if you're nearby.

A very moving memorial, and beautiful fountain, dedicated to Kansas City's fallen firefighters. Make sure you read the pedestals around the single statue...they provide a great timeline/history of KC's FD.

Its a memorial for firefighters. Its relaxing even on a scorching day like today 7-7-19. Its a fountain surrounded by lavender but be careful the local thugs (the bees) will assault you if you poke your nose in too far lol parking is decent, no restrooms that i could see, down the way is a park and a lake you can fish. Lots of sloping hills and green. Do watch out for vagabonds loafing in the park and sitting area. Worth seeing if you appreciate service (wo)men who devote their lives to helping others.
