Kansas City Blues & Jazz Juke House

We went to the Gem theater last night, so wanted to eat dinner in the 18th and Vine neighborhood. We had a very good meal at the juke house. I had gumbo and cornbread - delicious! Perfectly seasoned. My companion had the Philly steak with yummy onion rings. The music was at a comfortable volume - we could still talk (loud restaurants bug me these days), and the service was very good. Our waitress was Roz, I think. (it was one syllable...) and she was warm and welcoming. I would go again for sure.

Saturday visit right when the band kicked off. Visiting from out of town, really enjoyed this place. Live band played a great mix of old skool, 90s and early 2000s RnB music. Drinks were comparable for the price. Chicken and Fries were hot and fresh, very tasty. $10 cover at the door.

Nice getaway spot with great food. Standup comedy with St. Louis's Darius Bradford, with others on the stage was a great time!

I am giving the 5 star rating for the environment. I have been to this establishment so many times that I can't count. Soul Sessions. 2 Step Wednesday. First Fridays... special events or parties! YOU NAME IT. It is a black owned business on 18th and Vine, so it has its occasional issues. However, overall I love it here. Fried Chicken is a must! Drinks are ALWAYS poured heavy.You can come listen to live music, locals on the mic, or a DJ! The vibe is always right in my opinion. The crowd definitely changes depending on the day of the week, so pay attention to that!

LOVED LOVED LOVED our time here. GREAT MUSIC, GREAT FOOD, GREAT SERVICE, GREAT TIME!! Do not judge a book by its cover! When we first came in, we were so pleased with the music and environment. There weren't any seats in the front so we headed behind the bar, little did we know, these seat were just as great!! Ms Michelle was our server and we couldn't have asked for better!! The food was INCREDIBLE!!!! We order the fried fish, chicken wings, house burger, shrimp, chicken and waffles and most of us got fried for the side. They give you soooo much food. It was so worth the effort to get there. It was money well spent! If you're in the area, PLEASE do yourself a favor- GO!!!!! You must try this place!!

Good food, good drinks and a nice atmosphere. They have different events from two-stepping class to open mic night on Mondays. Coming here is always a good time.

Great place to come on a Monday night if you're looking for an open mic, Wednesday's you can come and Two Step, Friday and Sat they have a live band. The food is excellent. The catfish is my absolute fav, it's like your auntie is in the back cooking.The drinks are great, you standard bar drinks but you definitely get your monies worth.

I'm going to make this short and sweet. I walked up to this place and was told I couldn't get in because I had flip-flops on. I'm sorry, I didn't realize I was stepping into a 5-star institution. This trashy institution, on the inside and out, ain't nothing of status to be enforcing some strict dress code. Give me a break and get over yourself.While I stood outside after being told I wasn't "classy" enough to enter, I called four of my girls who arrived before me and they walked on out. Business of five people gone because of flip-flops... dumb. Oh, did I mention while I was waiting for them to come out, one guy came out in slip-on sliders and several ladies came out in flip-flops. Nice.From what I could tell and what I was told, I didn't miss a thing, so I guess consider myself lucky. But that's just a crappy way to run a crappy place. Bye, Felicia.

Don't get me wrong i like this place I've been here before when i visited Kansas in the past I'm from California but this time around was different so basically i was at the Keith sweat concert and they announced on stage that juke will be hosting a after party so i showed up my thing is i showed up tried placing a food order after i was told on the microphone from the DJ last call for food i immediately got up walk up to the waitress Hispanic maybe mixed not sure light skin heavy set she ignored me why she placed 2 other gentlemen order i said excuse me she said hold on! I stood there she walked off placed another order a gentleman in all black walked up tried helping to place an order the waitress walked out of nowhere said the kitchen closed they ran out of food now that is insane and embarrassing why did you not prepare for this event as a business owner you should not have volunteered as a after event priorities are not in order basically you were gonna fill individuals up with liquor and not serve them food to sober up shame on the owner of this establishment if you need extra money for food let me know

We had a ball with the locals. Good food and great music, everyone was friendly. A must visit again.
