Just Off Broadway Theatre

What a delightful experience. The venue was just the right size and right ambiance for Lee Langston's Family Affair tribute to Donny & Lalah Hathaway.My cousin and I were looking for a live music event with a touch of soul and saw the event posted on Facebook a Friday and Saturday evening. I'm so glad we rearranged our schedules and made it happen.It wasn't too big or too small. The acoustics were perfect for the live band and the singers. I couldn't have asked for a better evening. It was my first time there, and I now am looking forward to other plays or musical performance at this venue.

Live theater, even more so than live music should be witnessed up close and personal; not in arenas or large concert halls. Just Off Broadway Theater offers an intimate vantage point with its black box design. A small stage is in the middle of the room and about 5-6 rows rising on 3 sides of the stage. I have been fortunate in my 3 visits in the past 2 years to be within just a few feet of the actors and the action on stage. Each time I have exited this tiny space, I have felt moved and in awe of the performances. JOB is in the interior area of the old parks department stables. The fortress like rock structure surrounding most of the theater is all that remains but provides an inviting allure to step into the realm of the magic that is live theater. The theater has a liquor license and also sells snacks, but not much of a lobby to enjoy a preshow drink. 3 stars for the no-frills minimalistic space itself, but a solid 5 stars for the artistic product they deliver.

I just saw Into the Woods at Just Off Broadway Theater. The performances were top notch; the voices absolutely glorious. The costumes were creative and beautiful, the sets were minimalist-perfect, and the theater was just the right size to really appreciate the talented performers. Sondheim would have been proud. Kudos to She & Her Productions and to everyone who put the show together. This is what great theater is all about. I left feeling exhilarated and uplifted. This was a $50 performance for $17.55. Highly recommended.

Attended "Black Pearl Sings". Great music and story. Go and see it. The small intimate theater lets you be up close and personal with the actors. Vanessa was awesome.

This is wonderful Kansas City gem! It has excellent rental spaces at for reasonable prices. A liquor license is in place for those wanting to serve alcohol for a catered event. In addition, the plays and musicals booked at this theatre are some of the best in town. On Shoulders Now is another Kansas City original written and directed by Harvey Williams. It is a wonderful Christmas story that can be appreciated by all. The cast is stellar! Make it a point to visit this wonderful theatre!
