I had the great honor of attending Midwest Trust Center Concert Series featuring the world renowned Master Trumpeter Chris Botti himself. Omgudness what a phenomenal Wednesday night! The venue is perfect for concerts, plays etc. and every seat is a good seat. I first saw Mr. Botti in concert years ago and I thought I would literally lose it. He tore that trumpet up. I have never heard a trumpet sound THAT good, ever! HE is the very reason I fell in love with it. My instrument of love was always the saxophone, but honey all that changed after hearing this cat. He also happens to have the coldest band ever and is such a brilliant yet caring person. He provides opportunities for other phenomenal musicians to play with him from all over the world...not everyone does that...talk about unselfish, it's very admirable. If you happen to love jazz and haven't seen this gentleman in concert check out Mr. Botti's website where you will find his bio and tour information.Certainly a Class Act!

When I graduated from a different college in 2007, I thought I was done with my education. Ha! In 2016, after getting burnt out and realizing I was not happy with my I.T. career, a family member recommended that I check out JCCC. I signed up for a tour, and I was just blown away by how nice this campus is. I had no idea that a community college could be this nice. So, at the age of 39, I was enrolling in college again. The enrollment process was very easy, and everything could be done online including applying for financial aid. I enrolled in evening classes because I was working during the day. I was interested in a degree with an emphasis on Accounting because I remembered doing well and being interested in the subject when I had to take an Accounting class for a different degree. As for the quality of the teachers, I was mostly pleased. I took Accounting 1 from Mike Megaris. I loved the energy he brought to the classroom. He was good at staying on point during the lectures. One thing I'd change is doing more problems with him in class because there were several times I came across homework problems that I'm sure weren't explained in class. I took Accounting 2 from Anthony (Tony) Wayne. That was the 1 teacher I didn't like. Anthony wasted so much class time telling stories instead of teaching. I did well in Accounting 2 because I had help from 2 other students and because another JCCC teacher, Dave Krug, posted his lectures for Accounting 2 on YouTube. Thank you, Dave! One night for Accounting 2, Sasha Gluhovsky had to sub for Anthony. I wish she could have taken over the class because she was amazing. She's the reason I got an A on the 1st test in Accounting 2. I needed to take an econ class, so I enrolled in Microeconomics with Frank Syracuse. Frank wasn't just knowledgable about Microeconomics. He had a passion for presenting the info in a way that the students will understand and appreciate it. Listening to him explain diminishing marginal utility using Whoppers from Burger King as an example was awesome. I took Managerial Accounting with Robert (Bob) Henn. He was an amazing teacher. He can explain complicated Accounting concepts in a way that makes it so much easier to understand. I had no idea Accounting could get this complicated when I started this journey, but having teachers like Robert makes it less intimidating. I also took an online class during my last semester that I enrolled in at the last minute because I was short 3 credits to complete my degree. It would have been nice if the people keeping track of that warned me before I started the last semester. I ended up taking a Microsoft Office class to refresh my skills in Office, to fulfill the credit requirement, and because I knew Excel is often used in Accounting offices. However, I did not enjoy the experience. This is not the fault of JCCC. I enjoying doing many things online, but I discovered that I prefer to take my classes in a classroom where I can talk to the teacher face to face and study with other students. The very first department I interacted with at JCCC was the Academic Advising. Each time I enrolled in classes for the next semester, I always talked to an academic advisor to see what classes I needed and what they thought would be good. That helped me a lot, and they were always happy to help. I didn't utilize the Career Development Center until was I close to graduating. They did a great job of helping me update my resume. One piece of advice they gave me is that when someone is changing careers, it's good to change from a chronological resume to a functional resume. I loved that I was able to order the books I needed online ahead of time and pick them up at the book store. I didn't love the college textbook prices, but they are expensive everywhere. The book store at JCCC all the supplies and goodies a college student could want. The library and the computer labs were great places to study and get work done. The cafeteria also had a nice selection of food. In conclusion, I was only there 1 year (2016-2017) because I was able to transfer my college credits. I am sure there are other services and amenities I didn't see or use. I really enjoyed my time at JCCC, and I highly recommend that high school students consider attending JCCC instead of jumping right into a 4-year college. A 2-year degree might be all you need for your career. Even if it's not, you will be able to transfer credits from JCCC to another college and save a ton of money on tuition. Shout out to Charlene Collins, Deana Sturd, and Joanna Georgiana for studying with me and helping me get A's in my classes!

I think Johnson County Community College is one of the best community colleges out there. I am currently getting some pre-requisites out of the way before I transfer to KU for molecular bioscience. The resources offered me as a student is so great. They have a Science and Math Resource Center for studying independently, or for students who have questions after class, you are able to ask the tutors for assistance. If you are considering classes here my only recommendation would be to look at RateMyProffesor online and read the reviews thoroughly when choosing a teacher. The reason I am not giving this place 4 stars is for two reasons. Reason one is because the science resource center is not as equipped as it could be. Reason two if you are on your way to getting your degree from a university and you are doing some prerequisites at JCCC make sure to meet with your university's academic counselors, not JCCC's. I have been told by several people (and experienced myself) that they have received different information than what KU has said. Besides that, this is a great community college!

The School is great if you don't sign up for a program. I signed up for the Graphics Design program and literally have 8 classes left to finish the program but none of the 8 classes I need is ever available. The classes are not full, the school just never offers the class that I need to continue the program. The credits I have don't transfer anywhere else so instead of 2 yrs at JCCC, I'm going into five due to these classes never being available. It's really frustrating and annoying. I keep getting told if it's not available in the fall it will be offered in the spring and that is all a lie. It wasn't available in the fall of 2023 and now not available in spring of 2024. This is a waste of time and money. I wish I can have a refund and look at a different school. Make sure to choose wisely if you choose this school.

I liked everything about the college, but there are a lot of discrimination by some of the nursing program instructors and professors. If you are an immigrant be careful, well in my case, I still feel too bad about the school because I do not think that their attitude toward my performance was poor. Do not recommend for Immigrants or people who race is different (on their opinion). Sorry, there are some good professors, too. Thus I added two stars only for them who were supportive and professional, and did not care about the people's rates. I still cannot believe how much of discrimination I had from some of the professors, only immigrants can understand what I am saying now. I still got successful but those humiliations still deep in my heart and impacting my life.

I have contact three different people wanting information on the nursing program. Yet no one has contacted me. If you can't reach anyone to get information on a program. What good is it to have the program at all. Waste of time, so disappointed.
