Apparently there is no Jazz in Johnnie's! Had reservations for Saturday (June 8th) and there may have been 8 guests and according to the bartender, no music "lost their license". Made no sense to me... had our drinks and left for the VOO

Johnnie's is a lovely bar on the edge of the Power & Light District downtown that features lots of live music. Have been a couple of times now to catch a couple of bands. The servers here are consistent, same ones each time and they are really nice folks. There's a minimal bar food menu that's nothing spectacular but is good enough in comparison to what you get in the area. Michael, one of the main hosts you may meet at the front is a lovely gentleman and is known to get up as a guest with bands from time to time to sing with them. A talented guy he is!Love the fact this area of town is supporting live Kansas City jazz. This town needs more of that and they'll be getting my business. If you come: parking can be dicey and crowded in this area. There's a lot directly behind the bar up the hill a few feet that is recommended but the spaces are the definition of narrow. If you're driving a big tank, and many are these days, might not be the place for you.

Giving this a 2 just because they had live music. It wasnt bad. Not great. Food was bar food. Hotdog was on the menu. If youre looking for a nice meal and cold beer, not the place. Great service? Not so much. If you want tasty cocktails, not here. Ordered chicken spinach artichoke flatbread. Wasnt terrible. Came out on a small black plastic plate. All in all this place was just odd. If you want a jazz club experience with upscale food and drinks in KC this aint the joint. And to top it off there was a weird tweaker dude playing air harmonica at the bar. That was actually kind of entertaining.....

This is place is new for the KCPL district and inside the B&B Theaters. I only heard about this place because they had a Boozy Broomstick Pop Up Bar aka a Harry Potter style, which is more likely I'm reviewing over. I love pop up themes bar, it's different and they have fun menu to try out like food and drinks. I had the Lion Rawr, sweet but not too much, just right. The decor was fun, they also had some photo op you can take with your phone and they provided props and lights, so you can shine and show off your magic. I might have to check this place out before I go see a movie next time.

My GF and I were looking for a Friday night out with dinner, drinks, and live music. I found Johnnie's Jazz Bar & Grille in Liberty on Facebook. After studying I found out they had a second location at the Power & Light District which was a much shorter drive from Lenexa. It is inside the lobby of the B & B theater. The interior has an Art Deco Nightclub style with a nice-looking bar, and had a 7-piece swing band playing. Upon seating we looked at the drink menu which had s separate list of special Fall drinks. The waitress informed us that none of those were available. So, I asked for a common drink, a Bloody Mary. They can't make that. So, I asked for another common drink, she had to ask the bartender if he could make that. He could. My GF got a regular old fashion that ended up having a strange flavor added (she thinks it was cinnamon), which she didn't like. So, while listening to the music we looked at the food menu, which was super small compared with the one I looked at for the Liberty location. We ordered burgers with the Beyond Burger substitution. The waitress said they don't offer that substitution. I pointed out that is was printed right on the menu, which she had to stand there and read. She then had to go back to the kitchen to verify that was available. $15 for a burger and fried at a nice quality restaurant is not out of line. However, we got a slap in the face when we received our orders on Walmart white Styrofoam picnic plates. The catsup and mustard were in tear open packets. Upon settling up we saw the common cocktails were $14 each. Upon departure we walked by the theater counter and saw that our burgers had come from the theater snack bar. I kick myself for not having checked the online reviews on Google and Yelp which tell similar stories.

Absolutely unprofessional. I made reservations for 2 for 9:30pm 5 hours before that time and was told on the phone that they wouldn't have any tables for us and it might be busy. Which makes no sense if I have a reservation... Anyways when we arrived there were 10 empty tables and only one waitress. She comes to take our order around 9:50pm... we order our food and she comes back to say the kitchen wouldn't take our order because they close at 10pm?!?!?!? Mind you it's still 9:50pm and my reservations were for 9:30pm. Why the hell would you wait so long to take our order if you know your kitchens closing soon and then she went on and took our drinks away without even asking us!!!!!! I feel very uncomfortable and picked on. I asked to speak to someone higher in charge and she just said "UMMM IDK BUT ARE YALL GONNA LEAVE OR STAY" ?!?! Is it because my friend and I are a lot younger?!??! We're from Houston. This is ridiculous and rude servers.
