Brisket slices, slightly underdone so a little chewy and not that perfect level of tenderness and clean pull-test
Line out front at around 6:45.
Burnt ends, some pieces perfectly what you want from the Brisket Point, other pieces were hard.

I have wanted to eat at Joe's since hearing about it years ago. It's famous. Their bbq looked and sounded so good, I was worried it wouldn't be the same as it was all those years ago, that it wouldn't live up to my inflated expectations.Joe's absolutely did. It hasn't seemed to change because of the fame, the years of long lines. Still behind a gas station, it has the simplicity that good bbq demands. They've gotten really good at serving their crowds, the lines move quick and the service quicker. The burnt ends were the best I've had in my life, I had to let out a light moan every bite I took. Brisket was good too. The bbq sauce and the meat work perfectly. Chicken gumbo was unusual and delicious. Joe's even has its own beer, which was pretty refreshing.

The line was outside the business so it must be great....Food was very good here (almost as good as mine) and staff was very friendly. The interior had a salty atmosphere which had a lot of character. I will never been here again so I ordered a Man Z sandwich and the burnt ends dinner. If I had to pick only one I'd go burnt ends. The fries had a seasoning on them that I didn't care for. Great place for some BBQ that will never come close to what Texas provides ;)

I'm gonna lay a big, bold statement down and be prepared for arguments. Joe's KC is the best BBQ that Kansas City has to offer! I know that's a zingy sentence, about as zingy as the Classic Z Man Sandwich. Oh baby, yes. Although as of recently, the Rocket Pig is my go to. This sandwich has the flavor, the crisp, the sweet and the spicy. Perfection on a bun. Let's not forget the fries. When a fry is this amazing, we don't call them sides. I've tried all the menu items here, you really can't go wrong with a choice. All star! The service is always great. No matter the lines, they have it down to a science. The wait is never long. This is the OG version of the restaurant. It's on a small corner in a gas station. If you want more ambience, drive to the larger restaurant out off of 135th. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

My wife is always warning me about not eating gas station food, but I have found the ultimate solution! Joe's! It's award winning BBQ in an actual gas station (one pump, but details, right) Did I mention the bbq is award winning? Yes it is. The meat is just the right amount of smoky, juicy and tangy. Wife tried the chicken and said it was the best bbq chicken she ever had. The z man sandwich was perfect blend on brisket meat, toppings. The sides are tasty too, smoke chicken gumbo for the win. The service is fast and friendly, the food does come a bit on the room temperature side, but really tasty. The ambience is gas station side table with a side of hip Americana signs and graphics. A must check out, when coming into town.

Waited in line for an hour for this. Got here and the queue was right by the parking. It moves pretty quickly and there's seating inside too. The portion was pretty good, food had a good flavour. The meat wasn't dry and sauce incorporated into it well. I liked the fries as it was nice and crispy. I found the beans a bit salty. The margarita didn't taste like there was alcohol in it though. The food is a little expensive, I didn't expect to pay that much but oh, well, it was good to experience it while I'm there.

It's been 16 years since I visited this place, and it was awesome - well worth the line for this BBQ.On my way to Independence, I intentionally stopped here and despite the wait, I did not regret it. When I got there a little after noon, the line was already out the door, and when I finally got inside, the line kept on going. You could order some beer at the counter while you wait, buy merch, ... but the line keeps moving. You have plenty of time to decide and maybe re-decide what you want from the menu. While you do that, you can see how happy the folks inside are. The inside dining area is full of folks that are truly enjoying the company and the way Joe's smoky meats makes them feel.I was looking forward to retrying the Z-Man (brisket and cheese sandwich), but I saw they had something else worth trying... the jalapeno topped - Rocket Pig. When I finally got to the front, I ordered it to go, and got it maybe 2minutes later... sauces in the bag. Joe's is generous with the meats in their sandwiches... so many choices, but the Rocket Pig was the right choice for me.Joe's is probably my favorite BBQ joint in KC... I will always come back.

This was my first time getting Kansas City BBQ and it did not disappoint! The ordering process was simple and we got lucky because the line wasn't out the door today. I ordered the Rocket Pig and hubby ordered the Z Man. The meat was tender, juicy, well seasoned. I had that food over an hour ago and I'm still full! The vibe definitely gave old gas station hole in the wall, but that's the best part because you normally find the best food. We will definitely be back and my cousin is going to ship us some of that bbq sauce because it was just that d*** good.

We were in Kansas City to see family and right away found out that this city has a tremendous reputation for incredible BBQ. We were also told that Joe's Kansas City is one of the best places there for BBQ. All I can say is they were absolutely right! From the amazing meats to the sandwiches to the sides, this place really packs a yummy punch! I especially loved the way they seasoned their meats. It was slightly spicy, unique and had a sweet kicker. Definitely their own vibe. The causal dining space is the perfect backdrop for the food. It's a very comfortable place and great for getting together with friends or family. The relaxed scene is also good for parents with young kids.To top it all off, the service was just great. I had a lot of questions about how they approach BBQ and they were wonderful about answering and recommending things based on what I said I like. Thanks for a memorable meal while traveling!

We heard that it can get pretty busy here and there's usually a line waiting before opening- so we decided to get there a little early to ensure we weren't waiting in line too long! I'm not sure why, or if they normally do this, but they ended up opening about 15 minutes early! This helped them get a head start on the line, but once it hit 11 am, the line was starting to wrap outside the front entrance! We really wanted to try the burnt ends but unfortunately they sold out the day prior. Ribs - the ribs were cooking well! They were tender, but not exactly fall off the bone, but they were not dry! They also were a bit too salty; everyone at our table agreed. Beef brisket - sliced thinly which some people may prefer thicker slices. I didn't mind, I just thought it could've had a little bit more seasoning, but nothing the bbq sauce couldn't fix! Onion rings - I was actually a fan of their onion rings! They were crispy on the outside and I couldn't really taste or see too much grease! Red beans and rice - I thought it was decent and it does have a lil spice kick to it. Spiked Blackberry Lemonade - I thought it was a bit too tart for my liking, but wasn't bad overall. Not very sweet either. Sauces - there bbq sauces were delicious! Not too sweet and had great flavor. The spicy one wasn't overbearingly spicy- definitely a tolerable kick of spice!Overall, the food was delicious, and you should definitely stop by to try at least once- but I didn't find it to be amazing where I would say it's the best BBQ I've had.
