Saturday 08/31/24 - 7pm review - great as usual were the lighting, acoustics, service & food. I've been to JA's dozens of times & never knew there was PATIO SEATING! Would be great for a fall lunch. Pinot Grigiot wine, Spinach Artichoke starter, Seared Ahi Salad, Carrot Cake

To all Prime Rib lovers I ask, did something change with J Alexanders prime rib quality? To me, it's now, after several visits, completely bland, a bit tough and completely tasteless. What are your thoughts?Everything else is fantastic.Am I alone or do others feel the same?I'm giving 4 stars so I don't mess with the restaurants rating. I've always enjoyed J Alexanders food.If you love Prime Rib, Please post your own JA Review.

Came here mid-week for lunch with two others. We were seated in a booth in the back which made conversation easy. You couldn't hear others talking either.I was tempted to order the Thai Kai chicken salad since the reviews were so great. At the last minute I opted for the Asian ahi tuna salad since I had chicken for dinner the night before. The tuna was fresh and I liked the presentation with the salad on the side. Salad had a lot of dressing but was tasty. I wanted to eat light but it had some crunchy fried strip things in the salad that were not listed in the list of ingredients on the menu. If so, I would have asked for the salad without them. They were hard to pick out. Next time- would get the Thai Kai chicken salad. One person got the rattlesnake pasta and another the cilantro shrimp. Both loved their dish and finished them. Portions were generous in all three dishes. We were told ahead of time to get the carrot cake. WOW! Game changing. It was warm, the icing was perfect. I am forever ruined for carrot cake. I will dream of this carrot cake. If you come here- get the carrot cake!

I would see this location a lot and decided to make a reservation. I was excited coming in, but slightly disappointed leaving. When entering, it looks very nice. The lighting is somewhat dark and there are candles on the tables which sets the mood for your dining experience which I liked. Once we began ordering, I informed our server that I had food allergies and he stated that they would need to clean the grill to make sure nothing was being cross contaminated which I appreciated. We then waited for upwards of 20 minutes after our appetizer had arrived. It was a busy night which I understand, but this was the first time it had taken a good amount of time after the appetizer came out in my years of eating at restaurants. The appetizer (side item) was the Not Your Ordinary Mac and Cheese. It had great flavor, hot, and cheesy. I definitely enjoyed this a lot. I ordered the Steak 'N' Fries as the entree. I would think that since it took a good amount of time that my food would come out hot. Unfortunately, it was lukewarm. The steak was juicy and had good flavors, but since it wasn't more towards the hot side, it didn't quite hit that 4 star mark for me. The fries were crunchy, salty, and the portion size is great, but just like the steak, it was lukewarm. The service is good. I appreciated the server taking my allergies seriously and making sure everything was done right. Overall, my experience here was okay. I believe that if the food had came out hot, it would've definitely reached that 4 star mark for me. I will return and see if my next experience is different, but I recommend you come here for a nice dinner night.

What went well? Probably the best tasting and perfectly cooked medium rare filet mignon i've had in a very long time. I was so excited I forgot to take a pic. But I did manage to take a pic of the cocktails. The service was impeccable. I will be back. This was for restaurant week $55 prefix plus tip tax.

goodness gracious, I love this place!J Alexander's never disappoints. The restaurant is always inviting, clean, and the ambiance is always nice.I would say 90% of the time, I sit at the bar, and the service is impeccable, plus the bartenders make the best martinis in the city. You have to love getting a sidecar.Everything on the menu is excellent. The French dip sandwich is, without a doubt, the best in the city., they will consistently deliver, and you will never be disappointed. I wouldn't say you can't go wrong here. I would say it's much better than that; come here expecting a great meal, and excellent service. They will consistently deliver, and you will never be disappointed

Hadn't been here in years, time to go.Had the French Dip sandwich with a coffee cup size portion of Au Jus, and as a daily special (as opposed to their sides/fries etc), Beets with Goat Cheese and some crunchy additions.First off, applause the bread here, sourdough, great for dipping and none of that Chuh-batta crud.Second, slices of roast beef are perfect.A plentiful portion of Au Jus comes with it.Beets, were the awesome back up singers of this show.Great flavor, good goat cheese, and a crunchy like mini bread crumbles = great taste and a nice mix of textures. After the meal get their coffee, as IMHO it's great, smooth, non acidic and tasty w/o creamer - sugar etc are @ the table.Service is spot on. Great balance of attentiveness w/o being overbearing and pleasantly professional and well trained.Ambiance - Leave your sunglasses @ home or in the car, regardless of Mother Nature's season.Nice dark "oh good now we can talk" atmosphere like J.Gilbert's - dark steakhouse vibes. The Steak Maui is the, perfect, ribeye.the Prime Rib sandwich, in my recollection, is a full prime rib, between 2 slices of bread, and scrumptious! For the vegans and non meat eaters, this place has some pasta, salmon, and sides that are veggie friendly, but not much else.Peruse the menu on their site (for OPK at least) at - https://www.jalexanders.com/menus/0009.pdf

Fri eve attending conference for w/e. Area full of hotels. Arrived 5p, told would be 45 min for table. Single, professional fe for dinner offered bar table top. Gals, this is the norm for us . Times need to change. Waited forever at bar to get order taken even though 3 gals saw me standing there with a menu.. Finally, George, walked by- was waiting on regular tables and very kindly took my order & also brought me a glass of wine while waiting. What a gem and he received a tip! Won't be back here. $65 for 2 dollar sized crab cakes and soggy French fries. Had to wait for plastic ware, again. Just awful. George was the ONLY shining star!

How was dinner you ask? When it's the servers' last day, and she lets you know it....you had better hang on. Besides the lack of interest in us being there and us being sat in her section, I'm pretty sure she duped us into ordering the wrong thing. The French Dip couldn't have been worse, oh, unless you were told to get it on the hamburger bun to really make it "sing". Oh, it sung alright, just not anything I wanted to listen to. Fries, hard to mess up...oh, unless they were ice cold. Garlic, sure...why not just find ALL of it and throw it on the broccoli to scare away even the biggest garlic lovers. Mashed potatoes...delicious, the second time around. I'd love to put all the blame on the server who might as well be holding an "exit this way" sign...but I don't think she was cooking anything, just recommending we order everything wrong. Will I be returning, maybe, (hard to believe I know) but I had good memories from (as the kids like to say) "back in the day". On another note, she did warm up by the end and turned out to be a nice girl (ish)...but it was too late for our taste buds and experience unfortunately.
