I recently visited IXTAPA Mexican Cuisine in Overland Park and was blown away by the entire experience! From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed by the warm, inviting atmosphere and attentive service. This restaurant isn't just about food--it's about a full-on fiesta of authentic Mexican flavors.I started with a handcrafted cocktail, the cilantro jalapeño margarita, which was the perfect blend of spice and refreshment. For appetizers, I tried the cucumber ceviche taco, and every bite was a delightful explosion of flavor. And for dessert, the churro cake was an absolute showstopper--one of the best desserts I've ever had.A huge shoutout to owner Victor, whose passion for his craft truly shines through. He made every guest feel special, adding a personal touch that elevated the entire experience. With two convenient locations, IXTAPA is a must-visit for anyone craving genuine Mexican cuisine in Kansas City.Highly recommended!

Overland Park, KansasCame here based on the yelp reviews. 4.4 stars seemed good enough for me. First impressions when I entered the restaurant we're not good. The host for the evening was also our waiter. It was very slow in the restaurant so he was taking care of two roles. We said hello, and he just walked us to a table with menus never speaking to us. When he did come to our table to take our drink order, he spoke very little English. He couldn't understand what we were ordering. I had to use my translator app for him to understand what we needed. They only have bottle drinks. No draft beer. The restaurant is clean with booths lining the wall and high top table and chairs in the center of the restaurant. There is a seating area off to the right when you walk in, but they weren't allowing anyone to dine in that area. The restaurant is located in a strip mall.My husband ordered chicken enchiladas. The chicken is shredded and covered with a red enchilada sauce. It is served with black beans and rice. There was quite a bit of cheese on top of the enchiladas which made it look appetizing. However, the enchiladas lacked flavor. It was just chicken with cheese and tortilla. Nothing authentic or spicy about this meal. I ordered an appetizer. It is a corn tortilla with black beans, onions, corn, and goat cheese. It is a grilled quesadilla. On the menu, it stated it was to die for. I like the idea of the combination, but it was bland. No flavor. No spice. The only thing that was good about it was the tortilla was grilled and it gave a charred taste, which was the only flavor it had.The chips and salsa are brought to the table immediately. The chips had a nice homemade taste and crunch. The salsa was boring. It was tomato sauce with a bit of cilantro, chopped onion, and diced tomato. It was liquidy, but tasted like pico de gallo. They need to add flavor and spice to their meals in order to make it all around more appetizing .Overall, I would not come back to this restaurant. I like that it appeared to be very clean. I like the chips. But as far as the rest of the food, it was average.Watch your pricing. The menu does not reflect the charge that was on my receipt. $.52 more per meal plus more money for my beer than was advertised on the menu. Either fix your menu or explain why the cost is different. Seems sneaky.

Wow! This is an amazing restaurant offering a true Mexican cuisine instead of the TexMex we are accustomed to eating. I highly recommend giving it a try. The blend of food flavors is outstanding and won't disappoint. The owner likes to give a small lecture on the menu and what differentiates it from TexMex. He offered some great suggestions based on our preferences when it came to cocktails and beer. Word to the wise, tell him you've been there before and you won't get the lecture. Can be a little off putting. Spacious dinning room with nice bar. We will definitely try again and order something completely different to try. Come hungry because the portions are large, could easily split.

The shrimp cocktail was really good. The chicken enchilada was also good! I would on,y make one suggestion that they don't be so stingy with chips and salsa! They gave me six chips and no salsa! The other Mexican restaurants in town give you a lot of chips and usually two kinds of salsa!

This was a decent Mexican restaurant. However, after reading about all of the praises of authentic Mexican cuisine here, it was a bit of a let down to our expectations. Service was friendly and it looked like the owner was around to greet and check on tables; he never visited us which was okay since we thought the food was not all that great. While the Shrimp diablo was spicy, it lacked smokiness that I associate with this dish. The enchiladas also lacked something. Coming from Los Angeles and spoiled by Mexican cuisine, this just was not it for us.

You'll never look at Mexican food the same. Victor the owner is passionate about his dishes. So much love is poured into everything. My favorite menu item would be the cucumber ceviche and the sweet potato cake. Absolutely amazing and a must try.

My first time here, in from out of town on work. Victor find that out, took my menu from me, asked me two questions, then brought my dinner out to me. Absolutely delicious! Refreshing to see an engaged owner who's passionate about what he does! Wonderful host, fantastic food. Don't skip the churro cake!

Where to begin... how about hands down one of the best Mexican restaurants in KC. The love, the passion, the flavor is unmatched. You can tell from the dishes it's not heavy, not greasy, but packed with flavor. What I noticed is that they have a large space and a big outdoor patio area (when the weather is nice) to be seated. They have enough tables for small group to large parties! What's even better is that the food has all high quality ingredients and everything is made in house. The drinks are strong and unlike other sweet drinks they make their cocktails with straight alcohol and fresh squeezed juices so you know you're not getting any of that processed stuff. I had 2 drinks and they can pack a lunch! The service was amazing and they set a new standard cause I was blown away!

I love this restaurant, but today's visit was disappointing. This place makes authentic Mexican food and tried to be more higher end. The owner goes around and takes the orders of all the tables but when busy it is TOO MUCH for him and he messes up the orders. One person in the group ordered a steak but was brought chicken mole. The mole was good, but not what he ordered. I would have sent it back and asked for my steak but he id really nice and just ate it. However when the bill came they tried to charge us for both the steak we never got and the mole we didn't order. They were nice about it and took off the steak from the ticket. I got the shrimp enchiladas and they were not very good. They lacked a spicy sauce and didn't have much flavor. I still like this place and willhope for better next time!
