If I'm not mistaken, this now-iconic restaurant was one of the first of its kind in the metro. (It sort of set the precedent for other Indian eateries to follow in KC.) While they lost their luster/allure for me a few years back during the pandemic, I decided to give them another try over the weekend and was pleasantly surprised. They've clearly stepped up their service AND culinary game. Even though they were busy-ish, our flavorful food arrived in no time at all. The no-fuss/no-muss menu is filled with plenty of Northern Indian-centric dishes--the usual, standard eats. While there's nary a weird dish on the menu that elicited a "oh-I-have-to-try-that" response, it's all safe, pedestrian fare. (Also, don't expect much in the way of Indian street food/small plates. I don't even think I spied one chaat dish on the menu.)If you're looking for good, casual, piping-hot Indian grub, India Palace remains the original in the city. And, for me, it's perfectly located just off I-35 & 87th, which is ideal if I wanna grab carryout.

Indian cuisine is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. The staff is friendly and helpful with describing dishes I am not familiar with. We tried the cheese naan this time...it was good, not getting much cheese feel in it, but I may be comparing it to a pizza place for that. It tasted very good either way, I think I would go with the garlic naan next time for sure. It has the feel of an up scale restaurant, but it is casual in nature. My dish was easily enough for two, and's very delicious. We will definitely be back.

This was our second stop here at India place. I am just now beginning to experiment with Indian food. I had the lamb, biryani, rice, golden, raisins, almonds, and lamb. The the few bites that had the raisins in it were my favorite. The spice is just the right for those who want a little bit of spice, but not too much heat. Definitely wanna come and try their lunch specials.

Food - consistently good even as leftovers the next day.Service - Nice and cordial - a nice touch is well refilled water beverages/glassesAmbiance - Average but glad that there's not music I cannot understand blasting.Been going here for years, usually get Tika Masala (excellent), on a dice roll got chicken tika tika.Well cooked and seasoned chicken with lemon, onions on a sizzlin' skillet upon arrival @ the tableWith an option of either Naan or Rice - a huge helpin' o rice! Great 4 yo leftovers.Garlic Naan is great flavor and their other Naan breads and appetizers are spot on.I would love to see IF they were dish to dish compared with Korma Sutra just west on 87th.Also their chai after the meal is really worth a try

Great food, spice level, quality, taste with good service and decent ambience. Not a great location and looks but really good food. Fresh & warm tandoori roti and warm naan. Medium spice level was good. Kadhai chicken and appetizers pakore totally awesome.

Another Indian restaurant that used to be popular for its lunch buffet but refuses to offer again after COVID. These spots should at least offer lunch prices if this is to be the norm, but my gut tells me they'd rather charge $$$ for individual curries and have seen better profits because of it. No Thalis offered here (the madman at Korma Sutra will even acquiesce if you ask) so you're SOL if dining alonePaneer was stodgy at best, Rajmahal blows it out of the water No idea if chai was included in my lunch, as I was never offered, but there is a large carafe front and center that appears to be self serve No naan in the KC metro has come close to Shagans

We have had India food in places all over the world including India. This is by far one of the very best we have eaten. Always fresh and great flavor. We had the Beef Kadahi, garlic Naan and Vegetable PaKori and the sauces they came with were delicious. Service is always great here, friendly and traditional hospitality this not our first experience. Been coming here for years. Their lunch buffet is awesome too.

My girlfriend loved the malai kofta. Beyond that I must point out a few things that could be improved (I'd like to see this place beat Swagat). The naan is just too dense. The aloo naan is too dense and oily. In the condiment platter, the gajar is excellent! But no matter how I try to justify it, the raita is just too watery. The mint chutney, in that small plastic container, had a big ol' onion stem left inside at the bottom!! Come on, we need better quality control. I'm pretty sure I've had better tamarind chutney. And I just didn't care for the mango chutney. I'm sorry if I got some of the ingredients wrong. But I've had a lot of Indian food across the country to compare with. At least we can agree that the raita and naan can be improved. The service is excellent and the ambiance is nice.
